The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 448 Just a Few Dishes

Marilyn suddenly stopped Addison as he was heading upstairs, looking a bit uneasy. "A banquet?" she murmured. Grandpahatedbanquets. If one were actuallyhosted, he wouldprobablywalkoutwith his suitcase, leaving Mr. Steven'sillnessunattended. Addison's heart tightened, and he quickly turned back down the stairs. "Marilyn, we can't host a banquet." Marilyn looked up, puzzled. "Why not? It's an honor for our family to host the Divine Healer. We should welcome him properly. "I'll have Lana send out invitations to all the prominent families in Halton," she added. "No, no, no. Marilyn, please don't send out invitations," Addison said quickly, gently taking her hand to calm her. "The Divine Healer won't blame us, I promise. You don't need to worry about that. "The Divine Healer is a low-key person and dislikes extravagance," she explained."Have you ever heard of a banquet being held wherever the Divine Healer goes for a consultation?" Marilyn thought for a moment. "I don't think I've heard of that ... " "Exactly," Addison replied. "If you do host a banquet, the Divine Healer might actually be upset." Marilyn seemed to take his point, her expression contemplative. Addison finally felt a flicker of relief—until she spoke again. "But the Divine Healer is coming here to save lives. We can't just do nothing, right?" "Why not cook a few nice dishes for the Divine Healer?" Addison suggested gently. "Just a few good dishes," she emphasized, hoping to keep things simple. She still could not guess Matthew's full intentions. "Dishes ... Right, I need to prepare some good dishes!" Marilyn exclaimed. Marilyn seemed to have been reminded of something and quickly wiped her hands. "The meat needs to be stewed in advance to taste good ..."Addison, I will go prepare the dishes first." Addison nodded quickly. "You go ahead." When people are nervous, it would be good to keep busy as it would help distract them and ease their nerves. "I'll head upstairs to check on Mr. Steven first. You can focus on the cooking." Marilyn nodded. "Okay." Seeing that Marilyn had calmed down a bit, Addison felt slightly relieved. Just as she turned to head upstairs, Marilyn called out to her again. Her heart skipped a beat, worried that Marilyn might create another issue. "Addison, take it slow. Let Lance go with you." Addison paused, turning to glance at Lance. "Lance, go with her. She can't find her way," Marilyn said, tugging on his sleeve, clearly wanting him to accompany Addison. Lance stayed expressionless, showing no reaction. It was Virginia who spoke up anxiously. "Marilyn, I want to go too. I'll go with Lance." "Marilyn, it's fine. I can go on my own," Addison said, wanting to refuse, but when she looked at Marilyn's pleading eyes, she could not bring herself to say no. "Lance, quickly," Marilyn urged. Under the light, Lance's lowered gaze revealed a faint hint of gloom. "Fine," he said simply, stepping forward to ascend the stairs. Virginia, panicking, quickly lifted her skirt and tried to follow. However, to her surprise, Lance stopped, turned, and looked at her. "Go downstairs and help Mom prepare dinner," he said flatly.
