The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 422 Lance Is Different Tonight

"I'm changing," Lance said flatly. "Why aren't you changing in the bathroom? How can you just start here when I'm still in the room?" Addison snapped and turned her back to him flusteredly. Lance appeared unimpressed by her reaction. His brows furrowed slightly as he said, "I'm just changing. Is it such a big deal?" "Of course, it's a big deal! What you're doing is completely inappropriate!" she retorted, her voice rising in indignation. "Inappropriate?" Lance's eyes narrowed slightly, a faint, teasing smile tugging at the corners of his lips. A mischievous glint flashed in his gaze. He suddenly paused what he was doing, abandoning the act of undressing, and strode toward Addison. Addison, still covering her eyes with her hands, was entirely oblivious to his approach. It wasn't until she heard a soft chuckle near her ear that she instinctively opened her eyes. Lance? Her wide eyes met his, and her mind went blank. "Wh-what are you doing? Go to the bathroom if you're going to change! Don't do it in front of me!" "Addison, I didn't expect you to feel shy so easily," Lance said, amusement evident in his tone. He seemed thoroughly entertained by her flustered state, as though he'd suddenly found a new game to play. "Who's shy? What's there to be shy about?" Addison straightened her back and exclaimed. "It's just that your behavior is totally inappropriate right now, and I find it extremely offensive!" "Do you think I'm offending you?" Lance chuckled as if she'd just told the funniest joke in the world, unable to stop the grin spreading across his face. "Yes," Addison replied while frowning. She was confused about what was so amusing to him. "Go to the bathroom, now. If you don't ... if you don't ... " Addison's mind raced as she tried to think of a threat. "And if I don't?" Lance asked, standing directly in front of her. Then, he reached for the sash of his robe. "Lance!" Addison practically sprang off the bed as if a spring had been installed beneath her. Thiswasn'tlike Lance atall. Had he completelylost his mindtoday? Her sudden outburst only made Lance laugh harder. It wasn't just any laugh—his face lit up with a genuine, radiant smile, one Addison had never seen before. In the past, Lance was always cold and stoic. On rare occasions, he might curve his lips into the faintest, most insincere smirk, but even then, it was more perfunctory than real. Now, this full-hearted laughter left Addison utterly bewildered. Whatonearthissofunny? Is teasingmereallythatentertaining? After a while, Lance finally seemed to have laughed enough. He suppressed his amusement, tied the sash of his robe with deliberate care, and headed into the bathroom without another word.Addison stood there, utterly at a loss. She couldn't figure out what was going on in Lance's head. Just as she was trying to come up with a plan for surviving the rest of the night, a soft knock sounded at the door. The knock was light and hesitant, as if the person on the other side wasn't sure whether they should disturb her but had finally gathered the courage to do so. Without much thought, Addison got up and opened the door. To her surprise, it was Virginia with a face looking as pitiful and delicate as ever.
