The Replacement He Never Wanted
"You'd rather stay in the servant's room than share a room with me?" Lance had been lounging lazily on the couch, but hearing Addison's words, he looked up in surprise. "Of course!" Addison answered firmly. Lance's expression immediately darkened, becoming slightly unpleasant. It seemed as though her words had struck a nerve with the man, or perhaps it was something else. His gaze was unexpectedly sharp. "Then go ahead, I won't stop you. "You should go now. Maybe Lana's still awake, and you can squeeze in with her," the man said with a strange hint of anger. Addison was momentarily stunned by his response. "Fine ... I'll go if you insist!" Addison retorted, snorting in defiance, ready to walk out the door. But before she could take even a step, she suddenly remembered ...Lana had just turned her down ... and no other rooms were available in the servant's quarters. She had no other choice but to sleep here. Addison closed her eyes in a moment of despair, then forced a stiff smile onto her face. "No, I think I'll stay here tonight after all." With that, she walked back with a disgruntled expression, casually sitting on the bed as if nothing had happened. It was already so late; she couldn't possibly sleep outside—she'd freeze to death. A smart person knowswhentoyield ... It'sjustonenight; I'llgrinandbearit! "Oh? Why aren't you leaving? Didn't you just say you'd rather stay in the servant's room than share one with me? "Are you changing your mind, or were you just pretending not to care earlier?" Lance observed her with great interest, as if he already understood exactly what was going on in her mind. Hearing this, Addison couldn't help but grumble inside, but she kept a forced smile on her face."I ... I suddenly changed my mind ... I think sleeping in the master bedroom actually sounds pretty good." She had no idea how to smooth things over, so she awkwardly shifted the topic. "What's our sleeping arrangement for tonight?" There was no way they were ever going to share the same bed. Lance didn't answer. Instead, he raised an eyebrow and stared at her. Seeing Lance remain silent, Addison made up her mind. "I'll sleep in the bed, and you can take the floor. How does that sound?" Before Lance could respond, Addison clapped her hands and said, "It's settled then." With that, she grabbed a blanket and climbed into the bed, ready to fall asleep. Lance seemed stunned by her shamelessness, remaining silent for a long time. "Did I agree? "This is my room. You're sleeping on the floor." With that, the man reached for Addison's blanket.Addison quickly pulled back. "Hey! You're a grown man. You wouldn't really fight a girl over a blanket, would you? That's not very graceful." Hearing that, Lance pursed his lips slightly as though genuinely hesitating. Addison noticed the shift in his expression and felt a glimmer of hope—maybe this would work! "It's just for one night, Mr. Johnston. You wouldn't bear to watch a girl like me sleep on that cold, hard floor, would you?" Addison's eyes held a pleading look as she gazed at Lance. Lance's expression remained cold, and he replied icily, "I can."
