The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 402 The Tug of Desperation

Marilyn walked toward the spot where Lance and Virginia were standing. From quite a distance, she could hear Virginia's pitiful voice, soft and full of grievance. "Lance ... can't you not pick up Addison? "I know I was wrong. I shouldn't have been so reckless and broken the hairdryer. I was wrong. Please don't be angry with me. I know the only reason you said you were going to pick her up was to make me mad. But I get it now. I was wrong. Please, Lance, don't go." Virginia gazed at Lance with pleading eyes looking as though she was seconds away from being abandoned. Yet, the man merely disregarded her, saying, "Stop making a scene." He pried her hand off his arm, intending to get into the car. Panic flashed across Virginia's face as she tightened her grip on his arm, unwilling to let him go. "Lance ... don't treat me like this ... " "Virginia, stop making trouble." His brows furrowed, and his expression annoyed. Seeing his stern expression, Virginia froze for a moment. He hadn't said anything particularly harsh, but it was enough to make her instinctively back down. "Then ... Lance, please take me with you to the airport," she begged. If I can't stop Addison fromcomingtoJohnstonResidence, atleast I canwatchonthemduringtheride. Preventinganychanceofthemgettingcloser. Hearing this, Lance's fingers brushed lightly against the grooves of the car key in his hand as he fell silent, considering her words. "Lance ... you're not going to deny me this small request, are you?" she asked. Her downcast face looked so fragile, so filled with disappointment. Lance gazed at her for a moment before silently tucking the key into his pocket. "Let's go." "Really?! That's amazing!" Virginia's face lit up instantly. "I'll get in the car right now!" Standing nearby, Marilyn's face darkened the moment Lance agreed. How can I let this happen? This is supposed to be Addison and Lance's alone time. Having Virginia tag along will completely ruin my plans! I absolutely can't let Virginia come along! So just as Virginia, beaming with joy, reached out to open the passenger door, Marilyn suddenly grabbed her wrist.Startled, Virginia flinched and turned around, her expression immediately souring. However, the moment her eyes landed on Marilyn, she quickly swallowed her anger, smoothing her features into a sweet and obedient look. "Marilyn, what are you doing?" she asked with forced politeness. Marilyn smiled. "Ms. Dolton, I loved the egg custard you made earlier. It was simply perfect. Unfortunately, I finished it all, and I was hoping you could make me another one?" As she spoke, Marilyn tugged at Virginia's arm, pulling her away from the car without giving her a chance to decline. Virginia was practically dragged off. She turned back toward the car repeatedly, her anxious gaze fixed on Lance, terrified that he might drive off without her. "Marilyn ... can't I make it for you when we're back? You can have as much as you want then, I promise! Will that be alright?" she pleaded. Virginia's heart was practically racing. I needtogototheairportwith Lance! If I wait, I just might lose my craving."
