The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 395 Aren't We Sharing a Room?

Marilyn's excitement overtook her, causing her to ignore Virginia entirely. She gripped Lance's hand tightly, her voice filled with urgency. Lance remained composed and nodded. "Yes, I managed to get him." "I heard even the people in Kreshill couldn't convince the Divine Healer. How did you pull it off?" Marilyn asked, her disbelief evident. "I did, but it wasn't easy," Lance replied calmly. Then, glancing at the breezy surroundings, he added, "Let's go inside. It's too windy out here." "Alright, let's head inside," Marilyn said, her excitement pushing aside any thoughts of Virginia as she quickly made her way into the house. With the discussion going as planned, Lance gently took Virginia's arm and followed Marilyn into the living room. Marilyn settled on the couch and gestured for Lance to start. "Tell me everything, quickly!" Lance motioned for Virginia to come closer, but she hesitated, clearly uncomfortable. She lingered behind him, too nervous to step forward.Taking a seat next to Marilyn, Lance noticed Virginia's reluctance. She stood awkwardly nearby, unsure where to go. "I ... " she mumbled, attempting to speak. Before she could say more, Lance patted the seat beside him. "Virginia, sit here." Close to Marilyn? Virginia hesitated further. Sitting that close felt intimidating, especially under Marilyn's sharp gaze. Marilyn, noticing Virginia's stiffness, glanced at her with an indifferent expression. "Have a seat," she said evenly. After receiving the happy news, Marilyn even found Virginia more agreeable and allowed her to sit in the living room. Virginia, caught off guard but delighted, responded with enthusiasm, "Thank you, Mrs. Marilyn." She carefully seated herself beside the chair after expressing her gratitude. Marilyn, now turning her attention to Lance, held his hand and immediately began asking him, "How did you manage to convince Divine Healer? Did you strike a deal with the Daves to get him to agree? And when is he supposed to arrive in Halton?"Her rapid-fire questions left Lance a bit flustered, and he gave a weary smile. "Mom, slow down. Let me explain everything step by step." Marilyn straightened up, signaling her patience. "Alright, I'll wait. Take your time." Pausing briefly, Lance clarified, "If everything proceeds smoothly, the Divine Healer will arrive in Halton the day after tomorrow to treat Grandpa ... " As they talked, Lana came in at just the right moment, carrying several plates of exotic fruits. She set them on the table and began pouring tea for everyone. However, she hesitated when it came to Virginia, unsure if she should include her. Only after exchanging a glance with Marilyn and receiving a subtle nod did Lana relax and pour tea into Virginia's cup. ... Marilyn engaged Lance in conversation for a long time, leaving Virginia to sit quietly on the sidelines, unable to join in. Feeling drowsy, she struggled to stay awake but eventually began nodding off. Finally, their discussion wrapped up. "Virginia."Her eyes were already closed, her head dipping as she dozed. "Virginia, wake up," Lance called, waving a hand in front of her face. Startled awake, Virginia jumped to her feet. "I'm so sorry, Lance. I'm just too tired." Realizing Marilyn was sitting next to Lance, she flushed with embarrassment for dozing off in front of her. She quickly leaned forward, preparing to apologize. But when she glanced at Marilyn's seat, it was empty. "Mom has already gone upstairs to rest," Lance said, noticing her confusion. Virginia was dumbfounded. Marilyn must have seen her sleeping and left without saying anything. She had ruined her image entirely. Falling asleep like that was so disrespectful. Marilyn was probably furious. "Come on, I'll show you to your room," Lance said, leading her away without seeming to notice her distress.Trailing behind him in a daze, Virginia followed until they reached a room. "You'll stay here tonight," Lance said, gesturing to the door. "Let me know if you need anything." Blinking in surprise, Virginia asked, "Lance, aren't we supposed to be sharing a room?" He raised an eyebrow at her question, his expression one of mild astonishment. "Sharing a room?" He looked at Virginia intently, seemingly surprised by what she said.
