The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 390 Suspicion of an Affair?

Lance kept his gaze fixed on Virginia, his eyes unwavering. She felt a surge of joy. Did that mean he still cared about her? Unaware of Virginia's thoughts or subtle movements, Lance casually raised an eyebrow. His enchanting eyes narrowed slightly as he studied her. "Didn't you stop me from looking at you? Then why are you peeking out?" "Lance ... " Virginia was caught completely off guard. Her heart raced with excitement, and she found herself at a loss for words. Unlike her earlier attempts to feign shyness to attract his attention, this time, her shyness was genuine. Her cheeks flushed a deep red. "Lance, I ... I ... " she stammered, unable to form a coherent sentence. Flustered, she ducked under the blanket, hiding like a turtle retreating into its shell. No sooner had she cocooned herself in the blanket than a sound broke the silence—a ringing phone. The sudden call made Lance quickly answer, almost as if he wanted to avoid her. Virginia's senses immediately became alert. She heard him pick up the phone, followed by the sound of footsteps as he walked away. Lance had left. Virginia pulled the blanket away from her face. Her instincts warned her something wasn't right. What kind of phone call would make Lance feel the need to step away? Even during confidential meetings at Johnston Enterprise, he never excluded her. She had unrestricted access to company secrets, so who could be on the other end of this call that required such secrecy? Virginia couldn't make sense of it, but one thing was clear—she had to find out. Determined, she got up and silently followed him. At that moment, a flight attendant entered the cabin and was startled to see Virginia crouched near the edge of the aisle. "Miss, are you—" The flight attendant began to offer assistance, but Virginia quickly gestured for silence. Confused but professional, the flight attendant hesitated. Even though Virginia signaled her to stay quiet, she felt obligated to check on Virginia. "Miss, you—" Noticing the flight attendant was about to speak, Virginia quickly signaled with her eyes, urging her to lower her voice. The flight attendant caught on and spoke softly, "Miss, do you need assistance with something? I can help if you'd like." Virginia glanced at her as if weighing her options. A moment later, she leaned closer and whispered, "I think my husband is cheating on me." The words hit the flight attendant like a bolt from the blue. For a moment, her mind went blank, as though she had stumbled into something she wasn't supposed to hear. She couldn't understand why this passenger would openly share such personal information. Regretting her earlier question, the flight attendant wished she could undo the conversation. Handling accusations of infidelity was far beyond her job description."Uh ... well ... go ahead. If you need anything else, just let me know," she mumbled, keeping her gaze low. Without waiting for a response, the flight attendant hurried off, afraid Virginia might enlist her help. ... Meanwhile, Lance answered the phone after stepping out of the VIP cabin. "Is everything scheduled?" he asked. "Yes," Addison replied, her voice calm and emotionless. "I'll be back in Halton tomorrow, but Divine Healer's appointment might be pushed to the following day. He should arrive in Halton then." "Make sure all the required equipment is ready in advance. We can't afford any delays or shortages during the procedure." After a brief pause, she added, "And ensure Virginia doesn't show up. If she gets emotional, it could disrupt the surgery." Addison wasn't entirely sure if Virginia would be present, but she chose to address it anyway. Her tone was sharp, carrying the weight of authority, as though giving instructions to a subordinate. Lance listened in silence, a faint trace of disappointment flickering in his chest. "Are you paying attention?" Addison questioned, confused by his lack of response. She glanced at her phone screen, confirming the call was still connected. "I'm listening," Lance finally replied. "I'll take care of the arrangements." "One more thing," Addison added, her voice firm. "Before we pick up Divine Healer, I'll be stopping at the Johnston Residence." She paused briefly, then clarified, "But don't misunderstand! I'm not planning to move back. "This is simply because of Divine Healer's unique circumstances." Aware of Lance's tendency to misinterpret her actions, Addison felt the need to explain herself. Without clarification, he might think that was another one of her attempts to manipulate the situation.
