The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 377 Taking Responsibility

"Grandpa." As soon as Addison walked in, she immediately sensed the tense atmosphere. Hesitantly, she called out, "Grandpa." Matthew, clearly still angry, ignored her. It was Leon who spoke up first. "Addy, what are you doing here? Come on, step outside. The smoke is bad for your health." Leon hurried over and instinctively reached for Addison's arm to pull her away. But before he could touch her, he noticed her red eyes, looking like they had been burned. "What happened to your eyes?" Leon asked, pointing to her face. Addison was a bit dazed. "What?" "I'm asking about your eyes. What's going on?" Leon pressed again. Matthew also turned to look at her. "Ah, it's nothing." Addison quickly waved her hand, trying to brush it off and act as if she was okay.Leon wasn't convinced. He could tell from her expression that something was wrong. "Morris, not only did you burn the kitchen, but you also did this to Addy?" Leon was furious now. Compared to the kitchen, Addison's safety was a hundred times more important. Morris had indeed crossed the line this time. Morris remained silent, standing with his head lowered. Despite the gesture, his posture remained straight, a reflex from years in the military. "You can pack up and leave," Matthew declared, casting a glance at Addison's burned face. Hearing those words, Morris didn't argue, show any anger, or beg for forgiveness. He nodded silently, then picked up his fire-damaged work jacket from the floor. "Sorry," Morris said sincerely, bowing before turning toward the door. Witnessing the scene before her, Addison processed the situation in her mind for half a second, quickly realizing what Morris was doing. "Wait! Morris, don't go."She rushed forward, grabbing the dusty, torn work jacket Morris was holding and pulling him back. "Ms. Addison, you'll get your hands dirty with the jacket," Morris said, trying to pull her hand away from the fabric. But just as his hand was about to touch hers ... It seemed like something clicked in his mind briefly, and he stopped himself from touching her hand. "You're not leaving," Addison said firmly, her voice stern. "Who asked you to take the blame for me. Did I agree to that? You can't just take the blame without my permission!" She intentionally tried to sound fierce. "I ... " "What do you mean? I'll deal with you later." Addison shot a threatening glare at Morris. "Stay right there. I still haven't dealt with you. If you leave now, who will I take this up with?" Morris bit his lip, listening to her fierce words. In the end, he stopped in his tracks. When she saw that Morris had finally stopped, Addison sighed a small sigh of relief. She then turned to look at Leon and Matthew."The fire in the kitchen was caused by me, and it has nothing to do with Morris. "I wanted to help Morris in the kitchen, but there wasn't much I could do. So, I volunteered to light the fire, but I accidentally set the stove on fire. "It's completely my fault. If you want to punish someone, punish me." One person should take responsibility for their own actions. She couldn't just let Morris take the fall for something that was her mistake because she was from the Daves. "No, it's my fault for not caring for Ms. Addison. If I had cared for her better, she wouldn't have gotten burned by the fire. This is all my fault," Morris spoke up urgently, his gaze focused on Addison. Leon stood still, watching them insist on taking the blame. He was somewhat confused. "Who actually set the kitchen on fire?" "I did." "I did." Both of them spoke at the same time, and the air fell silent again.Leon stared at them, trying to figure out who was telling the truth, but both of their expressions were so resolute that he couldn't tell. "Leon, take Addy and take care of her injuries," Matthew said, his voice sharp and understanding. "Morris, you don't need to leave. Stay and help clean up the kitchen." He understood Addison well—she always took responsibility for her actions. She would never let someone else take the blame if she did something. Conversely, she would never take the fall for something she didn't do. Since Addison admitted this incident was her fault, Matthew immediately realized that the kitchen fire was an accident on her part. However, Morris had stepped in and taken the blame for it. Leon heard Matthew's command and immediately moved to take Addison to tend to her injuries.
