The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 366 Sweet Nothings

Embarrassment swept over Addison's features. Now, due to Lance's loud call, she had unintentionally become the center of attention. Gazing into the eyes of these girls, she could feel their looks sharp enough to cut. It was the kind of scene Virginia should be dealing with, not her. She desperately wanted to flee. "Why didn't you let me know you were here?" Lance questioned. With so many people around, how could she have possibly squeezed through to announce her arrival? Addison's discomfort was evident. She was naturally more reserved and not one for the limelight. At that moment, she edged back, wishing nothing more than to escape. "If it weren't for my sharp eyes, you might need to wait outside for ages," he added. Why did he have to spot her? She wished he had not, then she would not have been subjected to these hostile stares.Regretfully, Addison pressed her lips together, choosing silence over engaging with him, standing just outside the throng with a blank expression. Noticing her non-response and lack of anger, Lance made an attempt to break free from the crowd. However, the moment he moved, he realized it was futile. The group of excited girls enveloped him completely, making it impossible for him to escape. Impatient by nature, Lance's frown deepened. He was about to snap but then paused, turning back. "Excuse me, can I get through? My wife is waiting for me outside," he said smoothly, his voice calm and poised, his gaze softening as he looked at Addison, melting her defenses. His request had an instant effect; the girls' faces turned to stone, shocked by his announcement. It was almost audible, the sound of hearts breaking as they fluttered with excitement around him. "My wife gets antsy if she has to wait too long," Lance said with a light chuckle, his eyes warming when they met Addison's.Addison felt her skin crawl. Could this be the same Lance whose gaze usually froze others in their tracks? Addison wondered. She could not believe her eyes. "My wife has been waiting, and I shouldn't keep her any longer," Lance continued smoothly, his words flowing like silk. Addison's face twitched involuntarily, her expression turning slightly grim. Lance caught the look on Addison's face but, instead of reacting poorly, he simply smiled. "See, she's getting impatient. If I don't head out now, I'll hear about it later," he joked. "She can be quite fierce." His words lightened the atmosphere, painting him as a devoted husband amidst an adoring crowd. The girls around them started whispering and squealing softly. "Is there anything more attractive than a man who is so attentive to his wife? It makes him even more appealing." "He's not just handsome, he's also dedicated to his wife. She's so lucky!"Some began updating their social media statuses. "He looks so serious, but he's actually such a devoted husband. Who knew?" These comments buzzed in Addison's ears, turning her nearly to stone. Great. Instead of dispersing the crowd, Lance's charm had only drawn them in deeper. Now what? Addison's mind raced, seeking an escape as she wiped the sweat from her brow. "I'm so envious! Why can't that perfect man be mine?" "Yeah, how can anyone yell at such a flawless guy? If it were me, I'd never argue with such a charming husband!" Lance caught these comments and grinned. "My wife is perfect in every way; she just isn't the most accommodating." His voice softened as he continued, "But she doesn't need to be. Just having her by my side is enough for me. "I'll handle being the considerate one."His words sparked more whispers among the crowd. "This is so romantic, like something straight out of a drama series! It's really something else!" "She must be incredibly lucky! Maybe she saved a whole galaxy in her past life or something?" Meanwhile, Addison, hearing Lance's overly sweet declarations, felt a chill. Lance delivered these sugary words seamlessly, without so much as a blink. Addison shuddered, his smooth delivery sending a chill through her.
