The Replacement He Never Wanted
"Heading home to pick up Georgina?" Leon repeated the words, raising an eyebrow in surprise. "So you're agreeing to this?" "You are really going to let your granddaughter come here to apologize?" Leon's expression showed genuine surprise, as if he couldn't believe William was actually conceding. Clearly, these medical devices and doctors were playing a key role in the Hamiltons' success, otherwise, William wouldn't have agreed to this arrangement involving his granddaughter. William scoffed through his nose, begrudgingly accepting the situation as a response. He made it clear that this was a one-time thing, and he would not say it again. "So, can I leave now?" William seemed eager to exit as quickly as possible. Every second he stayed felt like another blow to his dignity. It was the kind of humiliation that comes from being controlled by someone younger.Although he phrased his previous statement as a question, it was, in fact, a command. Having been in charge of the Hamiltons for so long, William was used to giving orders, not having his decisions questioned. What he said was final. So, without waiting for a reply from Leon, he walked straight ahead, ignoring the two guards stationed at the door. The guards instinctively stepped forward to block him, but before they could act, the Hamiltons' guards swiftly intervened, standing in his way. In an instant, the Daves' and the Hamiltons' guards were facing off, on the verge of a confrontation. Leon glanced over at the scene near the door and smiled. "Mr. William, what's the rush? "We haven't finished our conversation, and you're already trying to leave. Isn't that a bit rude?" Leon strolled casually toward the center of the tension, right between the two sets of guards. The charged atmosphere seemed to calm down the moment Leon stepped in. "Once we've finished talking, you can leave at your leisure." William let out a cold grunt. "What else do you want from me? "I've said everything that needed to be said. I've made myself clear. Don't push your luck, Daves." At that moment, William's frustration was palpable. In truth, most of his anger from the past year had been directed at the Daves. "William, you mentioned bringing your granddaughter here. Are you sure? If you're willing to do that, then that's a good sign." Matthew, who had been silent up until now, finally spoke up. "But tell me this—are you planning on picking her up today, tomorrow, or will this be postponed indefinitely?" Matthew, older and more perceptive, immediately picked up on William's intentions. He had only mentioned bringing Georgina to apologize, without specifying any timeline. To Matthew, it was clear this was just an excuse to leave the Daves. "We would appreciate it if you could give us a definite time so we can prepare accordingly."What's your opinion on this?" These words saw through William's plan immediately. His face tightened, and he pressed his lips shut, not speaking. He never intended to actually bring Georgina to the Daves. His earlier remark was simply to buy time so he could return to the Hamiltons and make a plan. He intended to hand over the Daves' doctors and medical equipment first. Whether or not the Hamiltons had enough reserves to compensate for the situation was another matter. In the end, the goal was to plan ahead and give the Hamiltons a chance to catch their breath. But now, with Matthew's quick thinking, his plan had been exposed. William couldn't leave now, no matter how badly he wanted to. His face grew even more tense, looking pale. His breaths came in sharp with heavy gasps, and his frustration was almost tangible. He had thought a simple apology would put an end to things. After all, he had never heard much about the Daves' eldest daughter in Kreshill. All he knew were vague rumors that she had married into Halton, a remote area. Halton ... a barely known, small town. William thought he would never let his granddaughter marry into a place like that, facing hardships. The fact that the Daves allowed their granddaughter to marry into such a place showed how little they valued her. When he first heard about Georgina locking another girl in a dressing room and causing her to get sick, he was shocked. But hearing that it was the Daves' daughter, his shock lessened significantly. Locking the Daves' less favored daughter in a room ... it didn't seem like that big of a deal. He could just go to the Hamiltons and personally apologize to resolve the issue. But now, as William's eyes flicked over to Addison, his discomfort grew. He hadn't expected the situation to blow up to this extent. Addison was calmly seated with Matthew by her side. The breakfast plates in front of them were overflowing with food, yet Matthew seemed unaware, continuously adding pastries to Addison's plate as though he were worried she wasn't eating enough. Addison wore a simple tank top and cover-up, which, while casual, was certainly out of place for this gathering. Yet Matthew didn't seem annoyed at all. Instead, he smiled and asked if she had slept well. Looking closer at Addison's clothes, it became clear that her accessories, like the hairpins in her hair, were antiques worth a fortune. Her necklace and earrings were similarly valuable. How could rumors in Kreshill have suggested she was least favorable? Who would be foolish enough to spread such inaccurate gossip around town? William was now filled with regret. He wished he could march home and give Georgina a piece of his mind. Of all the people to mess with, why choose to cross the Daves' influential figure? This mistake had really caused a mess for the Hamiltons. "Look at you, staying silent again," Leon said, shrugging with a teasing smile. "This is making it difficult for the Daves, you know." "Why don't you just call your granddaughter now, have her come over, and settle this today?" Having said all of this, William glanced over at the approaching Daves' security team, then back at his own two solitary guards behind him. Realizing the situation, he reluctantly nodded, unable to avoid making the call any longer. William raised his hand, and one of his guards quickly handed him a phone. He found Georgina's number and dialed. After several beeps, no one answered. Not giving up, William redialed. Again, no answer. This is strange ... Had Georgina blocked my number again? Frustrated, William found his nephew's number and dialed. The call connected almost immediately. Before the other person could speak, William snapped, "Get your useless sister to the Daves now. This brat's blocked me again.""To where?" Jasper on the other end asked, confused. "Daves Residence, Kreshill," William replied impatiently. "Bring Georgina to the Daves Residence?" Jasper paused, stunned for a moment. Before he could react, the words slipped out, "What did she do this time?" His sister, who was always causing trouble in Kreshill, could be behind yet another mess. "Don't ask questions! Just get her here, right now!" William demanded fiercely. "If she doesn't want to come, force her with all means!"
