The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 310 A Clownish Troublemaker

"Ms. Addison, please take your time choosing. If there's anything you want, let me know, and I'll pass it on to Mr. Matthew. He'll certainly fulfill your request." Addison suppressed the shock bubbling in her chest and gave a soft nod. One box after another was carried into the room continuously. Sitting quietly on a chair, she watched the servants scurry back and forth. The wooden boxes outside felt like they were drawn from some bottomless pit. Regardless of how much was brought in, more kept coming. After several minutes of silent observation, Addison spoke out. "Perhaps we should stop bringing them into the room for now because it's getting crowded in here. Just leave the rest outside." How much stuff did Grandpa send me? It seemed like this could go on all day without end. Having so many priceless treasures piled up around her was starting to make her uneasy. "Understood." The head servant immediately halted his steps and motioned for the others to stop as well. "Ms. Addison has decided not to bring in more for now. Leave the items outside and then you can return to your usual tasks," he announced. The servants dispersed with collective bows, leaving the boxes neatly arranged outside the room. "Ms. Addison, you've just woken up. You must be hungry. I will bring you some breakfast," a maid offered gently. Addison nodded. "Thank you." Before the breakfast arrived, she heard footsteps echoing in the courtyard. Addison raised her head. "Angel, how did your sleep last night? Did you rest well?" Before Leon appeared, Addison could hear his bright and jovial voice carried through the air. Addison stood up. "Uncle Leon, what brings you here so early?" Leon approached with a friendly smile. "How could I not be up early under your grandpa's watchful eye?" Matthew was known for his disciplined routine. He woke up at precisely six every morning without fail. Since Leon was staying here, he had no choice but to follow suit. Otherwise, he'd risk getting a stern lecture from the old man himself. As long as Leon stayed at the Daves Residence, he dutifully followed Matthew's strict schedule. Before he could finish his words, his eyes were drawn to the wooden boxes scattered across the courtyard as he stepped inside. "Angel, what's all this?" Addison didn't bring any luggage when she arrived. So what on earth are these crates? Could it be that the servants have dumped a pile of random junk here because they think the courtyard is unoccupied? Are they trying to bully Angel? Leon's temper flared instantly. "Hey, you! Come here! Ms. Addison just arrived, but you've already turned her courtyard into this mess! Why isn't anyone cleaning up? Whose junk is this? Move it out of here now! If I find out who owns these things, I'll teach them a lesson!" It was true that Angel hadn't been home in years, but that was no excuse to treat her this way. She was still the only daughter of the Daves, and he'd like to see anyone bold enough to disrespect her! Addison was taken aback by her uncle's sudden outburst. "No, no, no, it's not junk! These things were sent by Grandpa.""Sent by Dad?" Leon froze mid-rant. He turned his head to look at the servants standing in a row nearby. They all lowered their heads in silence. They don't look like they're trying to bully Angel. "I don't know why Grandpa sent all this stuff either. He even said if I didn't want it, I could donate it all to help build a hospital." Leon lifted his eyebrows, a smirk creeping onto his face. "I'm curious about what he sent to you. Knowing him, it's probably a bunch of rare herbs or something." After saying that, he bent down to open one of the crates. Inside the wooden boxes lay a dazzling array of treasures, but the item that caught his eye was a sapphire-and-silver necklace studded with diamonds. Its brilliance was breathtaking, yet it exuded a timeless elegance that elevated its allure, casting a soft glow across the room. Leon was completely taken aback. "Is Dad really sent all of this?" He always thought Matthew's world revolved around medicinal herbs. After all, the old man spent most of his time buried in the study of various plants. He often disappeared into the Herbs Valley for entire days. If his experiments weren't complete, not even a call for dinner could drag him away. "Yes." Addison nodded lightly, her autumn-hued eyes cautiously lifting to Leon. After a moment of hesitation, she ventured, "Grandpa might've sent too much ... Uncle Leon, why don't you pick what you like and take it? I don't need all this." After all, Uncle Leon is Grandpa's biological son. Grandpa was so generous toward her. Deep down, she worried that Leon might be displeased. To her surprise, his reaction was entirely unexpected. "I don't expect that the old man will be one step ahead of me! We agreed that neither of us was supposed to make the first move! And yet here he is, breaking his word!" The man seemed to be aroused by the desire to win or lose. Suddenly he patted his thigh; his expression looked a little excited. "I also prepared a gift for you to celebrate your return home, and I will send it to you later!" He shot a glance at the treasures spilling from the box and scoffed. "His gifts are so ordinary. I thought he'd at least send some medicinal herbs or something useful, but he sends all this gaudy nonsense."Gaudy nonsense? Addison could only muster a helpless smile. When she was away from the Daves for three years, she had poured all her effort into achieving independence. Together with Keith, she'd co-founded Raven Company. Keith had a sharp business mind, and the drugs she developed were top-notch. Their company had quickly gone public, and their products were now sold internationally. After Raven Company went public, a flood of money poured in, and she quickly amassed wealth. She thought herself quite accomplished when she could afford to buy the luxurious Pendomium Heights without batting an eye. However, standing here now, watching her grandpa and uncle casually toss treasures her way, she realized she had grossly underestimated the financial depth of the Daves. She had once thought that sending a little money back home was a thoughtful way to honor her elders, a sign of filial piety. Now, it dawned on her that her little fortune was probably not even enough to fill a crack in the Daves's golden walls.Silently, Addison hugged her metaphorically "poor and shabby" self. "What's wrong, Angel? Your expression doesn't look quite right. Are you unhappy with the gifts?" Leon's voice softened with concern. "If there's anything you want, just say the word. Whatever it is, I'll make sure you get it." Addison hurriedly shook her head. "No, no, I'm happy with them. I'm very satisfied." She doubted there was anything in the world that could make her happier, surrounded by so many rare treasures. "Good," Leon said, then suddenly smacked his forehead as if he had remembered something crucial. "Oh, right! We still haven't dealt with the Hamiltons! How could I forget that? "Didn't I promise you on the plane that I'd go to the Hamiltons and give that little girl Georgina a proper justice? Don't worry, Angel. I always keep my word. Finish your breakfast, and afterward, I'll take you to their house personally!" Addison blinked slowly, her expression a mix of surprise and mild incredulity. If Leon hadn't brought it up, she would have completely forgotten about the matter herself. She had assumed he would've forgotten about it by now too. Unexpectedly, she was ready to charge straight into the Hamiltons to confront Georgina. Although she strongly suspected Georgina's involvement in what had happened, Addison wasn't entirely certain. She still needed to figure out if Virginia had played a role in the scheme as well. She planned to investigate thoroughly first and then hold everyone accountable, one by one. Noticing her hesitation, Leon mistook it. He thought his niece was too soft-hearted to confront the Hamiltons. "Angel, I know you have a kind heart, but kindness doesn't work with some people." His gaze was steady, filled with the warmth of an uncle genuinely looking out for her. Addison smiled faintly. She understood his words, and in fact, she agreed. The shameless thrive on audacity, while the noble often bear the brunt of misfortune. She knew it was important to hold onto kindness in life, but kindness had its boundaries. It should never come at the cost of being trampled, deceived, or bullied by others. When faced with morally corrupt, brazen individuals, there was no room for mercy. If Georgina had truly orchestrated this, Addison wouldn't hesitate to strike back. And if there was someone else pulling the strings behind the scenes, they would face consequences just as severe. Still, she didn't want her uncle embroiled in this mess. Virginia, after all, was the type to hold grudges over the smallest slights. Vindictive and petty, she wouldn't hesitate to drag others down with her. Worse, with Georgina as her ally and the entire Hamiltons as her backing, Virginia would only grow bolder and more reckless. However, the Daves weren't afraid of someone like Virginia. She was nothing more than a clownish troublemaker. Addison didn't want anyone in her family dirtying their hands over someone so unworthy. After all, Virginia simply didn't deserve that much attention.
