The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 299 Avenging Addy

"I ... we're really not what you think ... " Addison tried to explain, but Leon had already walked off as if staying longer would disturb her and Ryan. Addison shook her head helplessly. She understood perfectly well what Leon was thinking. He wanted her to be happy. He hoped she could leave Lance behind and build a fulfilling marriage and a joyful life ahead. She understood all of it. But Ryan wasn't the right person. There was no denying Ryan's charm—his sunny disposition, enthusiasm, and straightforward nature made him like a little sun, lighting up those around him. No matter how much pressure she was under, a single glance into his sparkling eyes could make all her troubles fade away. Yet, no matter how wonderful Ryan was, Addison had always regarded him as a student. Being the only child and the young lady of the Daves, Addison was adored by everyone, never lacking love. Even so, she had longed for a younger sibling as a child. Ryan's presence filled that gap in her heart. Addison knew very well that her heart was completely filled with Harvey. He had taken up every inch of it, leaving no space for anyone else. Her heart was too small to make room for anyone else. She had tried countless times to persuade herself to move on and open her heart again, but every attempt failed. She thought that if time continued to flow quietly and steadily, the happiness she once shared with Harvey would gradually dissolve into oblivion, carried away by the gentle breeze of passing years. But she overestimated time's ability to heal and underestimated how deeply she loved him. As she gazed out at the passing scenery beyond the window, a sharp ache pierced her heart like an invisible hand had cruelly clenched it. Fate—that merciless force—had ruthlessly torn apart those who were once close to each other. From then on, they would be worlds apart, never to meet or cross paths again. Addison's long lashes trembled slightly, and every time she thought of Harvey, a wave of melancholy swept over her. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay focused. Turning her attention back to her phone, she began replying to a few pending messages. "If there's anything urgent, don't hesitate to call me." "The lab might need a little more of your attention." The car sped along the road swiftly as though racing towards a goal. Before long, they arrived at the airport. "Ms. Daves, we're here," the doctor informed her gently. "So soon?" Addison blinked in surprise. The medication must have made her drowsy as she drifted into a brief slumber. Now, she rubbed her eyes and glanced outside. Sure enough, they had reached the airport. "I can help you out," the man offered. "No need. I can manage on my own," Addison replied. She mustered all her strength and got out of bed. The man watched closely by her side, worried she might collapse or show any sign of weakness. After all, he had just seen how pampered this young lady was, and if anything were to happen to her, he'd be the one held responsible. Addison slowly stepped out of the car. The man followed closely behind, ready to assist her at any moment. As Addison exited the car, she saw a large, sleek private jet gleaming under the airport lights. Its smooth white fuselage reflected the brilliance of the lights, making it appear dazzling. Leon waved at her enthusiastically at the top of the aircraft's stairs. "Addy, over here!" The spotlight illuminated him perfectly, making him look both conspicuous and a little comical. Addison couldn't help but chuckle softly. She nodded in response and began walking toward the jet. But before she could reach the stairs, Leon had already descended quickly to greet her personally. "You didn't have to come down. I could've boarded myself," she said with a faint smile."You're not well—I need to take proper care of you." Leon was firm. If anything happened to her, he wouldn't be able to forgive himself, nor would her father let him off easily. "This is the best plane the Daves has. Your grandfather arranged it just for you," he said, his tone filled with care. "It's fast and comfortable. You'll reach Kreshill in no time." Addison nodded quietly and followed him up the stairs. As soon as they entered the jet, a neatly dressed flight attendant greeted them with a respectful bow. "Miss, this way, please." Addison chose a random seat and sat down. Moments later, the engines roared to life, and the jet soared into the dark sky, vanishing into the distance. A flight attendant approached with a blanket in hand. "Miss, would you like me to cover you with this?" "No, thank you." Addison declined politely. The cabin was cozy, and she didn't need additional layers for warmth. Leon motioned for the attendant to leave before sitting down next to her. Silence hung in the air for a while before a thought crossed his mind, furrowing his brow. "Addy, do you ... do you remember where Lance found you?" Addy had been awake for a while now, and he almost forgot to ask her about the details of what had happened. "Where?" Addison thought momentarily, and the figure resembling Harvey appeared in her mind again. She quickly shook her head, trying to push that image away. It was Lance, not Harvey. "You don't remember?" Leon asked, noticing her shake of the head, his voice tinged with concern. If she didn't remember, figuring this out would be much more complicated. Addison shook her head again, denying it. "No, no, I remember. It was in the changing room." "In the changing room?" Leon frowned, confusion flickering across his face. How could she have been in the changing room? He had sent so many people to search the entire venue and ordered them to check every corner—there was no way they missed a single changing room.Had they been slacking off? "Were you locked in there?" Leon asked cautiously. After all, if she hadn't been locked in, she wouldn't have stayed in such a thin dress until she got a fever. Addison hesitated for a brief moment as though thinking something over. After a second, she nodded. "Yes." Leon inhaled sharply, clearly stunned. "Really ... really locked in there? Why? Did you offend someone? Who would dare do that? "Who? Who would dare do that to you? The nerve!" Leon seemed furious now; his brows furrowed deeply, and his tone had risen in anger. "Addy, you must have been scared. Don't worry, I will make sure to find this bastard and get revenge for you!" He couldn't sit still now, pacing around, looking as if he were about to jump off the plane to hunt down that person. "Please calm down," Addison quickly said, trying to soothe him."I know who did this. Please don't get so worked up." "You know?" Leon froze, his pacing halting at once. Addison nodded. She opened her mouth, seeming ready to give him an answer, but before she could say a word, she swallowed it back. Leon stared at her, thinking her hesitation was due to fear of possible retaliation from that person. "Addy, don't be afraid. Just say who it is. I will take care of them. "I can promise you they won't hurt you again." Addison shook her head, her gaze clear. "Uncle Leon, I'm not afraid." She wasn't afraid at all. She just hesitated, wondering whether she should reveal Georgina's name. Because she knew that once she said it, Leon would definitely follow through on his promise to get revenge for her. But she wanted to handle this herself. "Addy, say it. Don't be scared." Leon looked at her seriously, his eyes full of concern and pain.Addison couldn't bear seeing her family look at her that way. She hesitated momentarily, then said, "It was Georgina."
