The Replacement He Never Wanted
After waiting for hours at Johnston Residence without a sign of Addison, Lance's anger reached its peak. He had his secretary find Addison's address and, brimming with frustration, headed to Pendomium Heights. If she was unwilling to confront the reality of their divorce, he would have to make her face this harsh truth himself. There was no escaping it. "How did you find out where I live?" Addison asked, puzzled. As soon as the words left her mouth, she regretted it. Given Lance's status, it wouldn't be difficult for him to find her address in Halton. But why would he come looking for her so late? Wasn't he worried about Virginia misunderstanding the situation? She didn't want to get tangled up in Virginia's petty games again. "Give her the divorce agreement," Lance said, not looking at her. He turned to his bodyguard and instructed him to hand the divorce papers to Addison. "Don't you think it's a bit rude to knock on my door at this hour?" Addison said coldly as she took the agreement, her gaze fixed on the expressionless man. ... Having just calmed down after feeling dizzy with anger, Lance realized that Addison had thrown him off balance. His impulsive decision to show up at her place late at night was indeed inappropriate. "Is it because I didn't reply to your message?" Addison's tone carried a hint of mockery. It was obvious that Lance was sulking over her lack of response. When did he become so immature? Lance's face turned dark. Although he had come to deliver the divorce agreement, arriving at her place late at night made it seem like he cared too much about her opinion … It was hard not to give Addison the wrong impression. "Just remember to send it back once you've signed it," Lance said, his tone stiff. Then, he quickly got into the car and drove away, as if he couldn't bear to linger for even a moment. Addison walked inside with the agreement, opened it, and skimmed through the terms until her eyes settled on the clause offering her a mere ten million. Looking at that ten million, she felt both angry and amused, with a sarcastic smile on her lips. Lance's current net worth is more than 10 billion, and he only gave her 10 million. Most of this wealth had accumulated during their marriage and didn't even qualify as pre-marital assets. If the divorce settlement had been handled properly, she could have claimed at least several billion. Who did he think he was fooling with this ten million? Or was the Johnstons really so broke that they couldn't afford more? Fuming, Addison tossed the agreement onto the bed and stormed into the bathroom. She was furious over the divorce settlement Lance had drawn up. After taking a shower and stepping out of the bathroom, Addison wiped her hair and quietly looked at the agreement on the bed, feeling much calmer. Although it was excessive of Lance to only give her ten million, she really didn't want to drag things out with him. She didn't need that money anyway, and there was no point in wasting her energy on a pointless battle with Lance. Even if Lance offered her a large sum, she wouldn't take it. Just sign it! That way, I can avoid dragging things out with him any longer. She picked up the agreement and signed it without hesitation. Morning. Addison slept soundly until dawn, the best rest she had in a long time. When she woke up, she felt completely refreshed and even ate more breakfast than usual. Just as she finished applying her makeup and was about to head out, the doorbell rang. Opening the door, she was greeted by a youthful face, rosy-cheeked and standing under the bodyguard's umbrella. Virginia. Lance had just come by last night, and now Virginia was here without missing a beat. Were they taking turns? "Aren't you supposed to be sick?" Addison said coldly, eyeing the rosy-cheeked woman who showed no signs of illness. "Did Lance tell you?" Virginia replied, a smile playing on her lips. "I was sick, but thanks to Lance's care, I'm feeling much better now." The bragging in Virginia's tone was unmistakable. "I'm here today to bring something for you, but I'm not feeling well, can we sit inside and talk?" She was worried that Lance, feeling nostalgic, might give Addison too much of his fortune, so she had deceived Mike into drafting a new agreement in Lance's name. And she wanted to check if Addison had any other men hidden in her house. "Shouldn't you be resting at home if you're not feeling well? Why are you even out?" Virginia bringing something for me? Addison felt suspicious. It was like a wolf in sheep's clothing, there was definitely something fishy going on. Virginia was momentarily caught off guard by the remark, struggling to respond. "Sorry, but I'm busy," Addison said firmly, closing the door without hesitation. She had no idea what tricks Virginia was trying this time. Ever since her return, Virginia's antics had only frustrated Addison, and she had no intention of playing along with her manipulative games. "Wait—" Virginia reached out to stop her, clearly flustered. "Lance asked me to give this to you," she said, raising an eyebrow, sure that mentioning Lance would pique Addison's curiosity. "Not interested," Addison replied coldly, clearly unmoved. Wasn't she supposed to be head over heels for Lance? Why was she so indifferent at the mention of his name? Had Lance really broken her heart? Virginia silently mocked Addison, wearing a sympathetic expression as she decided to be straightforward. "I'm here to deliver the divorce agreement." She had originally planned to go inside and check if there was a man hiding in Addison's apartment, hoping to catch her in the act and make Lance completely disappointed in her. But given Addison's current demeanor, it seemed Lance had already lost all hope in her. Otherwise, Addison wouldn't be so unfazed by the mention of his name. So Virginia was here to deliver the divorce agreement as well? Addison raised an eyebrow as she opened the door and took the agreement from Virginia, quickly skimming through it. The initial sections were nearly identical to the one Lance had given her, but when she reached the asset distribution section, her expression shifted. Then, she couldn't help but laugh. Not a single cent was offered.
