The Replacement He Never Wanted
What did he say? Marilyn and the director were both stunned, unable to process the shocking revelation. Addison was actually Dr. Nancy's assistant? Even Addison was caught off guard by Lance's statement. Why did he suddenly expose my true identity? What was he trying to accomplish? Why did he bring it up out of nowhere? Did he want me to be harmed? The more people discovered who she really was, the more dangerous her situation became. Didn't he understand that? Was this some form of revenge? Was he seeking retribution for my previous comments? She shot Lance a cold, furious look. Lance met her gaze without flinching. In contrast to her eyes, Lance's gaze was devoid of any emotion. "What's the matter, Ms. Daves? Are you going to deny it?" He smirked, his smile colder than ice. "The director despises liars, and I'm a perfect example of that. Do you want to end up like me?" The message was clear: refuse to admit your identity, and the director won't offer his assistance. Addison let out a scornful laugh. "You were asking him for something today, weren't you? You lied to him. Do you honestly think he'll help you now?" Lance said each word with precision. He clearly struck a nerve, manipulating her thoughts as if they were nothing more than a game. Hearing this, Addison clenched her jaw, holding back the words she wanted to speak as she glared fiercely at him. Lance's face clearly showed that he had figured out her plan. He was pressuring her to acknowledge her true identity, to admit she was Dr. Nancy's assistant. The director was the first to respond, letting out a cold scoff. "She is Dr. Nancy's assistant? "Mr. Johnston, you really dare to say anything." It was clear from his voice that he didn't buy it."You don't believe it?" Lance raised an eyebrow, his tone still emotionless. The director scoffed again, "Of course I don't. You're telling me this inexperienced girl is Dr. Nancy's assistant? Who would believe that?" He could tell from Addison's expression that she was completely resistant to admitting she was Dr. Nancy's assistant. If she truly were, how could she look like that? "Sir, you usually don't trust what others say about people's flaws. Maybe it's time to change that," Lance remarked, raising an eyebrow. Then he turned his gaze to Addison, "What do you think?" Addison glanced up at the sound of his voice, feeling the weight of Lance's intense stare. She smiled and shifted her attention to the director, "You really need to change your ways, Sir. "I am, in fact, Dr. Nancy's assistant." The director's eyes widened in shock. Is this true? "Are you truly Dr. Nancy's assistant?" His voice stretched out, filled with disbelief. "Yes," Addison replied with a slight nod. Marilyn, already speechless from sadness, found herself even more at a loss for words after hearing her confirmation. The director banged his fist on the table. "So what you said earlier that you know a friend who also enjoys drinking tea ... and that they have a large supply of Greenhill ornitongue ... "So you're telling me you can bring me as much Greenhill ornitongue as I want? Is that true?" "Yes," Addison nodded again, her expression calm. How could this be? The director thought to himself, baffled. If Addison truly is Dr. Nancy's assistant, then it's no surprise that she can get this tea. After all, the position of Dr. Nancy's assistant is certainly not something just anyone could have. The director's face shifted instantly, turning very serious as he appeared to question her true identity, "How can you prove who you are?" "Prove who I am?" Addison raised an eyebrow.Without any hesitation, she responded calmly, "If you trust me, then I am Dr. Nancy's assistant. If you choose not to believe it, then I am not. "Whether it's true or not depends entirely on your perspective." Her words were delivered confidently, leaving the director puzzled and unable to understand her. However, there was something almost enchanting about her words, making him feel like she truly was Dr. Nancy's assistant. Perhaps it was Addison's composed demeanor, or maybe it was the subtle aura of a pharmaceutical expert that surrounded her. Without realizing it, he found himself genuinely believing in her identity. Lance felt pleased with Addison's response. He interrupted their discussion, speaking slowly, "You thought I had intentionally given Yarrow the fake authorization earlier, but that was a misunderstanding. "I would never do such a thing. "If you doubt me, you can check with Addison. She was the one who gave me that authorization letter. I mistakenly took the wrong one due to some other reasons, which caused the confusion. "If you still have doubts, you can always ask her." Addison gave a small smile. Lance was trying to use her identity to clear his name and improve his standing with Yarrow. What a clever strategy. "Is that the case?" The director turned to Addison, looking at her with a serious expression, waiting for her response. Lance stood off to the side, silently observing, also waiting for her answer. Addison curled her lips into a smile. "Oh? Is that really the case?" Using my identity to clear his name? I wouldn't let him get away with that. "I don't recall what Mr. Johnston mentioned. Didn't you say that I gave you the authorization letter? Wasn't it actually you who used a fake one on purpose?" Addison pretended to be unaware, speaking in an innocent tone. "Addison!" Lance's voice was laced with fury.Addison blinked her eyes and said, "Mr. Johnston, I honestly forgot." She mimicked his tone, sounding just as uninterested. Given the situation, it was oddly frustrating. Lance's frustration grew quickly, and his earlier satisfaction vanished in an instant. "Addison, do you even understand what you're saying?" Addison ignored him completely, acting as though she hadn't heard him. She brushed off his irritation and spoke directly to the dean, "Sir, let's discuss how we can resolve the funding issue for the Fullers." The director picked up his tea and took a sip, suppressing his surprise. "Since you are Dr. Nancy's assistant, if I assist the Fullers in fixing their funding, what will you offer to Yarrow in return?" Addison let out a small laugh. "What will I offer? "You should already know what I can offer, right? Dr. Nancy has fully entrusted me with the country's decision-making power." She stopped speaking there. She was confident the director of Yarrow would catch on. Sure enough, the director picked up his teacup again and took a sip, trying to hide his excitement. The tea had long cooled, its original sweetness and flavor completely gone. But he didn't notice, fully absorbed in his enthusiasm. If he could build a strong connection with Dr. Nancy's assistant, the Yarrow would surely become much stronger! And he only needed to make a small effort to help restore the Fullers' funding chain. It was clearly a deal that would greatly benefit him. It would only anger the Johnstons and Lance. When comparing Johnston Enterprise and Dr. Nancy ... Any reasonable person would immediately choose Dr. Nancy without hesitation. After a brief moment of consideration, the director firmly made his decision. "Alright, I'll help you resolve the funding issue."Lance's expression darkened at the words.
