The Replacement He Never Wanted
"Thank you so much, Ms. Daves," Annie said to Addison with sincerity. Addison nodded. "It's really the least I could do. There's no need to thank me. "But looking at Lance, he clearly seems angry. The fact that he didn't take it out on you despite being that upset, really caught me off guard." Michael rubbed his hands together, sounding a little embarrassed. "Honestly, I didn't expect Grandma to be so blunt—so blunt that she didn't even give Lance a chance to save face." Addison smiled. Annie's tone had certainly given Lance no room to negotiate. It was likely the first time Lance had been treated this way in his life. The mention of the incident seemed to set Annie off again. She straightened her back and slammed the cup of tea she had just picked up down on the table. "He went straight for Michael and targeted the Fullers. You want me to go easy on him? Not a chance! "Does he expect respect from others when he doesn't give it? If it weren't for the Johnstons' power in Halton and the Fullers' need to avoid trouble, I would've stopped talking and just taken action already." Addison's lips curled into a slight smile, and her voice carried a touch of amusement. "So, when you were looking so calm earlier, you were actually holding back your anger, weren't you?" The unspoken implication was clear: so, your harsh words were actually a restrained response? What would have happened if you hadn't held back? Would you have just started yelling? "Of course! If it weren't for my position, I would've already given him a piece of my mind!" Addison smiled, genuinely appreciating Annie's no-nonsense attitude. Despite her bluntness, Annie knew how to hold herself in check when it mattered. People who can be so flexible are rare. Because of that, Addison was even more committed to giving her all for the Acygine project. "But once you help our family complete the Acygine project, even if we can't surpass the Johnstons, we'll at least be on equal footing. If Lance tries anything again, the Fullers won't be afraid of him anymore!" Annie said, looking at Addison. Addison pressed her lips together, then replied, "Don't worry, the Acygine project will significantly increase the Fullers' market value. By then, you won't have to worry about the Johnstons again." A smile appeared on Annie's face as she nodded in approval.Addison glanced at the time, realizing it was already afternoon. Taking a few steps back, she prepared to leave. "Now that Lance has left and there's nothing urgent, I'll take my leave." She had only stayed at the Fuller Residence out of concern that Lance might actually lash out at Michael. With the issue settled, there was no longer any need for her to stay. Moreover, she had promised the Fullers to fully commit to the Acygine project, so she needed to put in a lot of time and effort. From the moment she sat down, Annie had subtly and repeatedly urged her to pay close attention to the Acygine project. Although it wasn't explicitly stated, Addison understood that Annie was reminding her how anxious the Fullers were about the project and how much they hoped for results soon. Seeing Addison about to leave, Annie quickly called out to Michael, "Ms. Daves is leaving. You should see her off." "Sure," Michael nodded. "Ms. Daves, this way, please." He led the way, taking the lead toward the door. When they reached the entrance of the private room, he stopped and waited quietly for Addison to catch up. Addison nodded. "Alright." She said her quick goodbyes to Annie, then walked side by side with Michael as they exited the room. "Oh, by the way, Mr. Fuller, there's something I still need to ask of you," Addison said suddenly as they neared the door. Hearing that Addison needed something from him, Michael immediately stopped, his expression serious. "Of course, just tell me what you need. If there's anything I can do to help, I'll do my best." Addison spoke up, "It's really not a big deal, but I need to ask you to strictly adhere to the confidentiality agreement and make sure my identity remains hidden. If it gets exposed, it could put me in danger." Given the gravity of the matter, she felt it necessary to remind him. Michael nodded. "You don't need to worry about that. The Fullers understand the importance of honoring agreements. Since we've signed the confidentiality agreement, we will absolutely keep your identity a secret. "And when Lance asked earlier, I didn't say anything. If I didn't say anything today, I certainly won't in the future." His tone was firm and convincing. "Mm-hmm, it's just that you're the only ones in all of Halton who know my identity, so I can't help but feel a little uneasy. But hearing you say that, I'm reassured," Addison replied, her tone gentle. As they walked and talked, they soon reached the entrance of the Fuller Residence. Knowing that Addison was about to leave, the butler had already parked her car on the street in front of the house, making it easy for her to drive off as soon as she was ready. The two of them stopped in front of the car. "So ... do you know when the Fullers' Acygine project will begin?" Michael asked with a polite smile. "Once I return and finalize the plans, we'll be able to start the initial preparations," Addison answered, taking the car keys from the butler. Her guess was correct. The Fullers were anxious to get the project underway. "However, just to be safe, for the Acygine project moving forward, please coordinate directly with Ryan, not with me," Addison added. "Coordinate with Ryan? The person who came with you to dinner yesterday?" Michael asked, looking slightly puzzled. "Yes. For any needs or requests, just go through him." She made this arrangement for two reasons: first, if she continued to work directly with the Fullers, the risk of her identity being exposed would increase, and she wasn't willing to take that chance. The second reason was that this was a completely new project, and allowing Ryan to take the lead would provide a significant opportunity for him to grow. However, given Ryan's current abilities, he wasn't quite ready to fully lead the project on his own. She would still need to provide guidance. Michael blinked, slightly taken aback. It was a bit of a dilemma for him. Judging by Ryan's behavior yesterday, he wasn't sure why, but he was certain that Ryan didn't like him. Michael coordinating with Ryan ... Addison could already imagine how troublesome that might turn out.She glanced at Michael and noticed his furrowed brow, his eyes filled with worry. "What's wrong? Is something bothering you?" she couldn't help but ask. "Nothing," Michael quickly masked his earlier expression, replacing it with a polite smile. "When you have a moment, could you send me his WhatsApp contact? I'd like to reach out to him directly later." Addison nodded. "No need to wait until I'm back. I'll send it to you now so I don't forget." "Alright," Michael said, pulling out his phone. Just then, a car slowly passed by, and inside sat a familiar, charming figure.
