She Was Reborn 10 Minutes Before the Apocalypse… What Happened Next Shocked Everyone

Chapter 21 Danger at the Gas Station

Nadia stared at the approaching floating object, using a stick to prod it and realizing it was a corpse. At first, it was shocking and nauseating, but she got used to it after seeing so many. A few were floating in the community area when they came out. Nadia was keeping track of time. It had been a minute, but there was no movement from the rope in her hand. Two minutes. Three minutes. Four minutes. Growing increasingly uneasy, Nadia tugged on the rope twice, but there was no response. Ordinary people could only stay underwater for about a minute. Four minutes were way too long even if 1801 was skilled at diving. She sensed something was wrong and was about to pull the rope when the water surface suddenly rippled.1801 surfaced. "I checked several shops. All the doors were pried open, and everything inside was taken." Everything's taken? Who can be so capable? Levi was disappointed. "Without the gas cylinders, we can't cook even if we have food." They had been fast enough, but someone beat them to it. It seemed they still lacked life experience. Nadia glanced at 1801. Those street vendors had been submerged since the second day of the typhoon. It was unlikely all the shops were pried open even if some shop owners moved their stuff. The floodwater was muddy and the current was strong, impossible to navigate without a diving mask and good swimming skills unless these shops were pried open right at the start of the disaster. She had a suspicion. "We can only try our luck at the gas station now, hoping the shop owners didn't take everything."They couldn't return empty-handed since they were already out. They had to try their luck at the gas station. Nadia took out her phone from a waterproof bag and found the offline map to show them. "It's roughly here, near a big banyan tree." It was about six or seven kilometers from SOHO Community, not too far but in a remote area. With the location clear, the three set off in the inflatable boat toward the gas station. The suburbs were full of bungalows, now all submerged, creating a desolate scene. On the way, they encountered firefighters rescuing trapped people. They used a megaphone to try and command their inflatable boat. A once-in-a-lifetime flood meant rescue tools were scarce. Harrison ignored them, and the three sped through the floodwaters. The city had turned into an ocean, making it hard to distinguish directions. Nadia used binoculars to observe. "Head forward and turn right. The green emerging from the water should be the banyan tree." They indeed saw banyan leaves when they slowed down and approached. The tall banyan tree now only had its treetop visible. They anchored the inflatable boat to the tree, and Nadia pointed in a general direction. Harrison put on the diving mask and dove into the water. Harrison surfaced after about two minutes. "I found it, but the gas station has a rolling shutter door and a sliding iron door, which are hard to pry open." He gestured for Nadia to take out the folding crowbar from his bag. Levi was dumbfounded. Why am I the only one without professional equipment? Nadia had equipment in her space, but couldn't take it out with the team. She didn't hesitate to tie the rope and wear the mask seeing that 1801's bag had a simple diving mask, rope, and crowbar. "I'll go down to help. You keep an eye on the surroundings and pull the rope if there's anything unusual." Levi nodded. "Be careful." The floodwater was freezing. Nadia swam toward the gas station with a waterproof lamp and took out the pliers. She quickly swam over seeing a faint light in the distance. Harrison was in the water, trying to lift the rolling shutter door. However, the water resistance was too strong. Nadia joined him, helping to lift the door. Their eyes met, and they combined their strength. The rolling shutter door slowly lifted, revealing the sliding iron door inside. Harrison took the pliers from her, cut the chain on the door, then pulled the door open. It was dark inside. Suddenly, a black shadow lunged at Nadia as they were about to swim in. Harrison reacted quickly and pulled her, the shadow brushing past her head and swimming upward. They saw it was a gas cylinder after shining the flashlight. Not just one, but many gas cylinders floated out one after another, rushing to the surface. Nadia instinctively wanted to grab them but realized they were probably empty. A full gas cylinder was dense and wouldn't float so easily. She took out a high-powered waterproof flashlight, scanned the dark surroundings, and spotted several cylinders in the corner. She swam over to grab one but couldn't lift it. Harrison lifted a gas cylinder and swam out of the room with his strength, tugging the rope tied to him. Levi grabbed the rope and pulled, and the two quickly surfaced. Nadia climbed onto the inflatable boat, helping to lift the heavy gas cylinder on board. Seemed like the shop owner didn't have time to move them. "You help them up; I'll go get the other gas cylinders." Harrison dove back into the water after catching his breath. The water pressure was heavy, and holding his breath made him uncomfortable. Nadia sat on the inflatable boat, gasping for air. Levi scanned the surroundings with binoculars, suddenly tensed. "Nadia, someone's coming." Nadia stood up, seeing an inflatable boat quickly approaching in the rain. There seemed to be at least four or five people though unclear. Levi pulled the rope hard while Nadia prepared to fight. Harrison surfaced, dragging a few gas cylinders. As he climbed aboard, the other inflatable boat approached with six burly men holding sharp steel pipes. "This gas station is our turf. Hand over what you've salvaged." "Hey, we don't have diving masks." Another laughed arrogantly. "That's easy. Make them retrieve everything and hand it over." "Right, leave the inflatable boat and other supplies, and we might let you go." They looked like gang members covered in tattoos. Society's order had collapsed in the chaos, making it a world for the ruthless. They acted as if their demands were already fulfilled, ignoring the trio's thoughts. Levi was nervous, gripping the crowbar tightly. Nadia put her hand in her pocket. "Alright, come and get it." "Wait, we're coming." They laughed lewdly and approached slowly. Their eyes gleamed like hungry wolves. As they got within a few meters, Nadia was about to take something out when Harrison moved faster with two quick movements. Bang. Bang.
