Beauty Behind the Mask

Chapter 474 You Are Not Qualified

Wendy basked in the glow of admiration from her classmates, their envious gazes fueling her vanity. She continued to express her gratitude to Susanne, her words laced with a sweetness that concealed her underlying smugness. It feels so nice to be envied. Just then, a sleek black car pulled up, and the door opened. A tall, strikingly handsome man stepped out, immediately drawing everyone’s eyes. He had dark, sharp eyes, perfectly arched brows, and a face that looked like it was carved from stone. He moved with confidence, and his presence was magnetic. It was Vinson Nightshire. In Jadeborough, even if you hadn’t met Vinson, you’d heard of him. His name alone commanded respect. Everyone fell silent, recognizing him without needing any introduction. “He’s so handsome!” a girl whispered, blushing as she hoped he might look her way. But his gaze was locked on something else— the grand piano, the Goddess of Hunting. She sighed in disappointment, realizing his attention wasn’t on her at all.Wendy’s heart raced when she saw Vinson. She felt like she was in a dream. With a bright smile, she called out, “What brings you here, Vinson?” The students watched closely, comparing the two. Vinson, with his commanding presence, made Wendy, who was usually seen as pretty, seem ordinary. It was hard to imagine them as a couple. Vinson noticed his mother standing beside Wendy. Out of politeness, he gave Susanne a nod, but his expression remained cold. Wendy’s heart skipped a beat. He noticed me, she thought, thrilled. Ignoring Susanne’s subtle attempt to stop her, she stepped forward. “What are you doing here, Vinson?” Vinson frowned slightly, clearly uninterested in small talk. “I’m here to deliver the piano,” he said, his tone flat. Wendy’s eyes lit up. Is he saying this piano is for me? Her excitement grew. “Are you the one who delivered the Goddess of Hunting to me?” Her joy was short-lived. Vinson had planned to ignore her, but her assumption was too much. He snorted, a sound filled with contempt. His face showed exactly how little he thought of her.Wendy’s smile froze. Confusion quickly turned to dread. What? Vinson isn’t here to deliver the piano to me? Could it be for Susanne? Before she could back away, Vinson looked at her with cold eyes. “For you?” he said, his voice sharp. “Do you really think you’re worthy of it?” His words hit Wendy like a slap. Her face turned bright red. The same envious looks she had enjoyed before now felt like needles pricking her skin. She wanted to disappear, to run away, but she was stuck, frozen in place. All she could do was watch as Vinson turned away from her, leaving her standing there, humiliated and alone.
