Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming
The temperature kept dropping. I curled into a tight ball, shivering. I tried using Freya’s claws to pry open the door, but it was ridiculously heavy. From the sound of it, those bastards outside had piled something against it. I slammed into the door again and again, but it wouldn’t budge. The freezing cold was getting worse, and drowsiness began creeping in. Even werewolves—tough as we are—are helpless in temperatures below freezing. You can’t fight nature. I summoned Freya. Her thick fur might help us hold out a little longer. But even she couldn’t withstand it for long. The cold seeped into her body, and soon she started dozing off. She dragged me down with her. My mind was getting foggy. Aiden… Of all things, it was his face that popped into my head as I slipped into unconsciousness. Was this it for me? Aiden’s POV I was having dinner with Taylor when my phone rang. It was an unknown number. I figured it was a robocall and ignored it. It rang again—longer this time. I set down my fork and picked it up. “Hello?” I answered. A girl’s voice came through, choked with sobs. “I’m sorry, are you the president of Eclipse Pack? Is someone named Raelynn one of your employees?” I frowned. “Yes.” “Please, you have to help her. She saved me and now she’s trapped in the underground freezer at Midnight Bar. Those werewolves locked her in there. It’s freezing—she’s going to die! I tried, but the door won’t budge.”My stomach dropped. I hung up and shot to my feet. “What’s wrong?” Taylor blinked, clearly confused. “We just started eating.” “I’ve got an emergency. You stay and finish.” I turned to leave. She grabbed my arm. “But you haven’t had dinner with me in so long. Can’t you stay just a little while longer?” “I’m going to save someone.” I shook her off. “Save who?” she called after me, stunned. “Raelynn.” That was all I said before rushing out. I jumped in the car and sped toward Midnight Bar. I didn’t see the girl who called me, but it didn’t take long to find the wine cellar. The door was tightly shut, with chairs and tables stacked in front of it. The handle had been twisted and jammed. It was thick—reinforced. I knocked hard. No answer. Panic hit me. I shoved all the furniture out of the way, summoned my claws, and sliced the lock clean off. Then I forced the door open. A blast of cold air slammed into me, sharp enough to steal my breath. The thermometer read minus forty degrees Celsius. I didn’t waste another second—I bolted inside. Freya, her wolf form, was collapsed just inside the entrance, her fur coated in icy frost. I grabbed her and pulled her out to the hallway, letting her warm up. Seeing her like this… it hurt. She must have reached her limit to summon her wolf in that temperature. I reached out with our mental link. Raelynn, wake up.After a few tries, the white wolf stirred. Her eyes fluttered open. “Aiden…?” She answered in the depths of her soul, her voice faint and groggy. “What’s going on…? How can I still hear you if I’m dead?” I scowled. “Raelynn, stop talking nonsense.” “I’m not… It’s just weird. Why are you always around, even now…” She mumbled dreamily. “Maybe… I really do like you.” “Shut up. I’m taking you to the hospital.” “Mm.” And then she passed out again. I stroked her fur, then had Edward shift and carry her out to the car. Once she was safely inside, I drove straight to the hospital. Raelynn’s POV When I woke up, I found myself in a hospital bed. Aiden was sitting beside me. “What are you doing here?” I asked in surprise. My memory came back piece by piece—the cold storage, the freezing, the way I almost died in there. “You’re the one who saved me?” I asked. “Don’t talk so much. You just woke up. Rest,” he said, handing me a glass of warm water. “You were in a minus-forty-degree freezer for six or seven hours. The doctor said your bones were nearly brittle. You shouldn’t get out of bed for a couple days. Call me if you need anything. Don’t try to handle it alone.” His tone still carried a bit of that usual sharpness, but since he had saved my life, I didn’t feel like arguing. My guard toward him had dropped quite a bit. I nodded and took a sip. A while passed before I couldn’t hold it in any longer. “So tell me—how did you even find me? Don’t tell me you put a tracker on me.”
