Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming

Chapter 271 One Last Favor

When I returned to Capital City and went to visit Wesley at the hospital, he was being forced by a werewolf nurse to take his meds. The moment he saw me, he pounced like a puppy. “Raelyn! Tell them I’m fine already! I’m totally recovered! I can get out of bed and go have fun!” Seeing that pitiful face, I had to bite back my laugh. Ever since I left last time, Mr. Greg had been so worried about his precious grandson running off too soon that he kept Wesley locked up for another half-month just to be sure. “Alright, I’ll help get it sorted for you,” I said. “But until then, be good and stay put.” Wesley sighed in defeat, then glanced up. “Hey… why’d you break up with Aiden?” I knocked him lightly on the forehead. “Didn’t you read the news?” Wesley snorted. “Aiden liked you too much to suddenly fall for someone else. There’s gotta be some misunderstanding.” “I used to think so too,” I said, growing serious. “But I asked—more than once. And I got confirmation. Aiden’s still hung up on Geraldine. Always has been.” Wesley fell silent for a moment, then sighed and tried to comfort me. “Well… Randall’s a good guy too. Yeah, he works too much, but other than that, he’s solid.” Loves work, huh? I twitched a smile. I guess there are worse flaws. “I mean it,” Wesley added. “Randall once stayed in the office for 32 hours straight. Didn’t move. Like a damn statue.” I couldn’t help but think of Aiden too—another workaholic. Right now it was probably around 3 PM… he’d be in his department meeting. He liked bitter black coffee during meetings. No sugar. No cream. Ugh. There I go again, thinking about him. “…But, Randall also had a first love,” Wesley said. “So? Doesn’t everyone?” I asked with a shrug. “That was three years ago. He really liked her. But she went missing. He searched everywhere for her… turns out she died. After that, he threw himself into work. That’s how he built his company up so fast over the last two years.”So Randall had a tragic love story too. “Well, enough about that,” Wesley said with a grin. “You two are together now. Just take good care of each other. I think you’re a pretty good match.” I shook my head. “Two people too alike can’t really be together. If the person I’m dating is just like me, what’s the point? Where’s the fun in that?” Only opposites bring something new. That’s where the spark comes from. “But—” “Don’t overthink it. I was just saying,” I cut him off and stood. “I’ll talk to Mr. Greg about letting you out. I’ve got to go.” “Don’t leave yet! Chat with me a little longer! I haven’t had a normal conversation with someone my age in forever. That old doctor just keeps coming in and forcing medicine down my throat. I can’t take it anymore.” I smirked. “Want me to send in a few cute nurses instead?” Wesley’s face went dead serious. “Get out.” Later, I learned something else. This whole scandal between Aiden and Geraldine? Someone was fanning the flames behind the scenes. And now things had spiraled. Eclipse Corporation’s stock had plummeted. I didn’t want to interfere in Aiden’s business anymore—but Eclipse was partly my blood and sweat too. I couldn’t just sit back and watch it fall. So I called him. “Have you figured out who’s behind all this?” “Yeah. Thunder Pack, Lawson Corp, and… Andrix.” Aiden’s voice sounded tired. “So what are you planning to do?” “I’ll go with the flow.” I snapped. “Go with the flow?! Aiden, are you just going to sit back and let Eclipse go to hell?” “There’s nothing I can do for now.”I let out a bitter laugh. “There are ways! We had dirt on Lawson Corp—don’t you remember? We caught them red-handed with their tax evasion!” Then I froze. Wait. That evidence… the photos, the audio… they were all on my phone. I’d never handed them over. “Aiden, I’ll send you everything I have.” I unlocked my phone and opened Twitter—only to realize I’d been blocked. “…You forgot to block my number,” I heard Aiden say coldly. “From now on, don’t call me again.” He hung up. I stared at the phone, stunned. When I tried to call again, I hit a dead line. Blocked. Aiden… this is the last time I’ll help you. I inhaled deeply, pushing down the storm in my chest. Then I found Lawson Corp’s main office number. “Hello?” The voice that picked up belonged to someone I hadn’t spoken to in ages—Ms. Raelyn. “It’s been a while,” I said. The tone on the other end instantly turned sharp. “Raelyn?” “That’s right. So you do remember me.”
