Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming
When I got back to the club, Aiden was already there waiting. He looked at me, a little reluctant to leave, and said, “Raelyn, I have to head back to Varken for a couple of days. There’s some trouble at the company, but I should be back in about a week.” Hearing that, I actually felt a little sad for a moment; still, I nodded. “It’s fine, go.” Aiden let out a long sigh, stepped forward, and pulled me into a gentle hug. “Remember to miss me.” Really? Begging me to miss you while still acting all high and mighty? I sighed. “That depends on whether I have the time to miss you.” His brow furrowed immediately. “No time? I’m going to be gone for a week, not dead for a week; I’ve got plenty of ways to check up on you.” I… Before he left, Aiden insisted I take him to the airport. Gilbert and the others didn’t want me to leave—especially Radix, who looked like he was about to cry. Rubbing his eyes, Radix gave me a pitiful look. “Raelyn, could you not go? If you leave, I’ll have to fall asleep listening to your Goodnight again.” I tugged at the corner of my lips. “It’s Goodnight Goodnight.” Radix’s sobs caught in his throat. Wingstorm, standing nearby, quickly chimed in, “Raelyn, could you join next year’s team competition too?” I could only give a noncommittal, “Sure.” Gilbert stared at me for a long while before asking, “The prize money for this match—five hundred fifty-seven thousand dollars of it is yours. Twitter or bank transfer?” I laughed and politely declined the money, then said a quick goodbye. I followed Aiden to the airport; after seeing him off, I suddenly got a call. When I answered, I was surprised to hear from Mr. Greg, it had been days since we’d spoken. “Hello, Raelyn. One of my friend’s grandsons just got back to the Capital City today. Could you pick him up from the airport for me? Your old grandpa’s not as young as he used to be, and there’s no one else to help. You see…” I knew it was a guilt trip, but I still sighed and agreed.Still, I couldn’t help finding it odd—did Mr. Greg have someone tailing me? How did he know I was at the airport right now? “Perfect. I already told him—just wait at the exit for him when the time comes.” And with that, Mr. Greg hung up. A bad feeling crept in; whoever I was about to meet was probably connected to me somehow. The flight Mr. Greg mentioned landed in the Capital City soon enough. I stood at the exit, scanning the crowd; then, suddenly, I spotted a familiar figure. He walked toward me at an unhurried pace, smiling. “Ms. Beck, long time no see.” I froze. Looking at the sharply dressed, refined-looking werewolf in front of me, I frowned. “Mr. Randall, you’re in Capital City too?” A flicker of surprise crossed Randall’s eyes. “‘Too’? Who else is here?” There was no point in hiding it. “My grandpa asked me to pick someone up—said it was his friend’s grandson.” Randall chuckled. “And what if that person is me?” I honestly hadn’t expected that Randall would be the one I was here to get. “What else did your grandpa say?” Randall asked when he saw me zoning out. He waved a hand in front of my face. “What are you thinking about?” Snapping out of it, I noticed how close he was standing and instinctively took a step back. “That’s it—he just told me to get you safely to the Imperial Pack.” Randall arched a brow. “Then why aren’t we leaving?” I spread my hands, all innocence. “I can’t drive; why don’t you grab a cab, Mr. Randall?” “It’s fine, I can drive.” Still all innocence, I said, “I don’t have a car.” He rubbed his head. “I do.” “I only ride in cars I’m used to; I don’t like other people’s.” I refused flat-out. Randall finally seemed to get it. “So what you’re really saying is, you don’t want to go back with me—right?”I smiled sweetly. “Mr. Randall is as sharp as ever.” “What, you think I’d eat you alive?” I shook my head. “It’s just not appropriate for a man and woman to be alone together; besides, I have a boyfriend now, so naturally I keep my distance from other men.” Even if Aiden wasn’t here, I still needed to keep myself in check. “Ms. Beck, you’re so loyal and devoted—I like you even more now. What should I do about that?” I stepped back. “If you really think that way, then I’m going to have to avoid you.” Randall’s smile faded. “I was just teasing you.” I sighed. “Then let’s go; I’ll get you home.” The whole drive, Randall talked non-stop. “Raelyn, do you know who called me back this time?” I kept my eyes on the road, ignoring him. “It was your grandpa.” Still silent, I made a turn. “Aren’t you curious why he wanted me here?” Focused on driving, I reached for my water bottle and took a sip. “He said he wants me to be the Imperial Pack’s live-in son-in-law.” I promptly spat my mouthful of water all over his face.
