Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming

Chapter 232 Getting the Evidence

Jacob immediately promised that he’d bring the ledgers tomorrow so we could go over them together. Seeing how quickly he’d taken the bait, I secretly praised myself. The next day, we met at the same restaurant, and Jacob really did bring the ledgers. I flipped through them, page after page, until I reached the end; then I looked up in admiration. “Impressive. The records are so meticulous.” “That’s nothing. The real key is knowing how to play it smart. I think the reason your boss scolds you is because you keep the books too honestly.” I tilted my head with a puzzled look. “What do you mean?” Jacob glanced around, then lowered his voice. “You need to know how to cook the books.” “So you’re saying Lawson Corp does that too?” I widened my eyes in feigned shock, while quietly switching on my phone’s recorder. The mention of Lawson Corp seemed to sober him up a little. He hesitated, but then went on. “I’m the one who prepares Lawson Corp’s ledgers. Naturally, there are tricks hidden inside.” Afraid he might clam up, I flashed him a bright smile and pouted playfully. “Come on, Jacob, tell me. I’m dying of curiosity.” There was no way a scumbag like Jacob could resist a gorgeous woman pouting and calling him brother. He fell for it instantly, his eyes turning lewd. “Sweetheart, of course I’ve tampered with them. Think about it—Lawson Corp owes billions in taxes every year. Do you think the boss is willing to pay that? As long as I adjust the numbers, the company saves a fortune… and I get a cut for myself.” As he finished, Jacob held up nine fingers with a sly grin. “Mr. Jacob, that’s incredible,” I said, resting my chin on my hand in mock admiration. He flashed nine fingers—a sly way of bragging about the nine million he’d pocketed. “Not at all, not at all. So, you get it now?” Jacob leered at me. The sight of his lustful face made my stomach churn. I quietly slipped the recorder back into my bag and stood up. “Mr. Jacob, let’s leave it here for today. I’ve got something to take care of.”He was caught off guard that I’d leave before we’d even eaten. “The food just got here; won’t you stay to finish?” I looked back and gave him a little smile. “Tomorrow we’ll meet again. For now, I really need to head home. I suddenly remembered I forgot to feed my two cats. If I go back late, they’ll starve.” Jacob’s face twitched; he didn’t dare push me to stay, so he could only walk me out looking disappointed. The moment I stepped outside, I spotted Aiden waiting. I climbed into the car and, grinning, pulled out my phone. “I recorded everything he said. It can be used as evidence.” “Just the recording won’t cut it,” Aiden said with a shake of his head. “We need physical materials to take Lawson Corp down for good.” I blinked, pulled up my phone, and revealed my trick. “I had a Bluetooth camera built into my ring. It’s synced with my phone, so all the photos are already saved. While I was flipping through the ledgers, it recorded everything.” A flicker of surprise crossed Aiden’s eyes. “Smart.” “Of course. Plenty of big companies steal trade secrets with Bluetooth rings I designed.” I was proud of that little invention. “For now, we shouldn’t release any of this,” Aiden said calmly. “We need the right opportunity. If we make the first move, we’ll just look like we’re trying to provoke them. Better to wait for Lawson Corp to mess up on their own.” I nodded in agreement. “Makes sense. Let’s head back to the Imperial Pack.” Aiden drove me to the Goldberg family’s estate in the heart of Capital City. The moment I walked through the door, a figure came charging at me. Startled, I found Gilbert’s face suddenly magnified in front of me, leaving me a little speechless. “Every time I come home to find you, you’re not here. Are you avoiding me on purpose?” I froze. I really hadn’t been avoiding him, but the way he said it made me sound like some kind of heartless flirt. Aiden’s face darkened. “Raelyn, mind explaining who this lowlife is supposed to be?” I opened my mouth to explain he was my older brother, but before I could, Gilbert cut in with his own introduction. “I’m not a lowlife. I’m Gilbert, captain of the top-ranked Flexora Club in the country.” Aiden’s expression eased. “So you’re the Imperial Pack’s heir apparent—the one addicted to esports, Gilbert.” Gilbert’s face was serious. “I’m captain of the top-ranked Flexora Club in the country. Gilbert.” I looked at his handsome yet boyish face and couldn’t help thinking he had a kind of… brainless charm. Clearly, he was handsome—but not exactly bright.
