Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming

Chapter 216 Tension in the Car

The moment I saw the figure standing at the door, my mind automatically ran through its internal database and landed on one name—Gilbert. He looked about fifty percent like Wesley, but without the sharp, refined features. His eyes were round, his expression soft, and the little dimples at the corners of his mouth gave him a boyish charm. Even I hadn’t expected Gilbert to look younger than Wesley. “You’re Raelynn—wait, no, Li Yan, right?” Wesley had no clue what his brother was talking about and just stood there dumbly, nodding. I burst out laughing. “You actually tracked me down here? That’s insane.” This guy really was the elusive e-sports fanatic. “You’re seriously skilled. If possible, would you consider joining our club? I promise we’ll give you the best conditions.” Gilbert’s eyes sparkled as he said it—he looked genuinely hopeful. I suddenly realized that this cousin of mine didn’t just look young—he really was a little naïve. I shook my head and turned him down directly. “Sorry. I’m really not into that career path. I just play for fun.” Gilbert froze. He probably hadn’t expected that someone who could casually beat the peak-ranked player had absolutely no interest in the game itself. “Well… in a couple days, we’ve got a match against another team. Would you maybe come help us out?” I thought about it for a second and rejected him again. “Sorry. I really don’t want to compete.” Now I was starting to regret dueling him at all. I felt like I’d accidentally picked up a stray I couldn’t shake off. “But…” Gilbert wasn’t good with words. He looked so flustered that his eyes were starting to water. He was my cousin, after all. Might as well just agree.Even if he did seem a little… dim. “Alright, fine. I’ll do it.” Gilbert lit up immediately. “Awesome! Then I’ll come pick you up that day.” Right after he said it, he glanced at his phone and suddenly jumped. “Crap, I’ve got stuff to do today. I’ll catch you later—I gotta go train the new recruits.” And with that, he disappeared just as quickly as he came. Totally stealth on arrival, totally stealth on departure. The only thing that didn’t change was the dazed look on Wesley’s face. “Raelynn, do you know the last time my brother came home?” I tilted my head, curious. “When?” “Last year. During Lunar New Year.” Wesley still looked stunned. “He’s actually coming home for you. If Grandpa finds out, he’ll probably put you on a damn pedestal.” I twitched my lips. “It’s not that serious.” “I’m dead serious. My brother never comes home except for New Year’s. And even then, he doesn’t stay long. I can’t believe he broke his own rule for you.” Honestly, I didn’t care about any of that. I was only thinking about the team match in a few days. I needed to train the new characters before then. No way was I going to embarrass myself. After chatting with Wesley a little longer, I left the hospital. Originally, I had planned to go back and ask Mr. Greg for medicinal herbs to treat Wesley, but after the way we fought, I had zero intention of dealing with him again. That meant the only way to get the herbs now was to go through the underground black market. I frowned, preparing to head there myself. Just as I reached the hospital entrance, I saw Aiden’s car parked by the curb. His deep-set eyes were full of warmth as he looked at me. “What are you doing here?” Aiden smiled. “I missed you. So I came.” “Uh-huh. And you just happened to show up right when I was leaving? And you’re parked right out front waiting for me?” No way I was buying that. I got in and stared straight at him, hoping to catch a flicker of guilt in his face. “Alright, alright. I wasn’t feeling well, so I came to pick up some medicine.” That honest response made me frown. “Why didn’t you tell me?” He answered straight up, his tone even carrying a hint of grievance. “You were already busy taking care of someone else. I didn’t want to bother you.” Oh boy. So this iceberg of a man was… jealous? I heard the sour undertone and couldn’t resist reaching out to pinch his cheek. “Okay, okay. Don’t overthink it. That’s my brother. You’re even jealous of my brother, Aiden? Seriously, you’re acting like a kid.” What could turn a cold, ruthless CEO into a clingy, needy softie? “I am jealous. So what are you gonna do to make it up to me?” Aiden licked his lips subconsciously, eyes fixed on me. My heart skipped a beat under that gaze. “Make it up how?” Aiden smiled and gently pulled me into his arms, murmuring by my ear, “Kiss me.” His warm breath tickled the shell of my ear, and the suggestive tone made my face flush. I shook my head slightly, eyes still locked on his. For a second, I couldn’t even speak. He coaxed again, “Kiss me. Please?” I looked up and gave him a light kiss on the cheek. Soft. Subtle. But dangerously seductive. Aiden’s breathing instantly deepened. He wrapped me in his arms and was just about to lean down for more—when someone suddenly knocked on the car window.
