Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming
After Adam left, the room fell quiet. The Goldbergs’ villa was tucked away far from the city, surrounded by calm and quiet. Compared to the chaos at the amusement park, this peaceful environment helped me finally relax. Even so, a chill still lingered. The whole thing had been terrifying. But in the end, I’d only been shaken up. Aside from some lingering fear and my usual fear of heights, I was fine. No real harm done. Lying in bed, I pulled out my phone. As expected, the amusement park incident had already blown up online. It was trending everywhere. Some werewolf journalist at the scene had snapped a photo of me lying on the roller coaster tracks and claimed I’d died from shock. Unbelievable. These shameless reporters really knew how to twist the truth. Annoyed, I was just about to call Jackson to have the post taken down when my phone lit up with an incoming call. "Raelyn, are you okay?" It was Aiden. And from the sound of his voice, he actually sounded... worried? Well, well. Looks like Mr. Aiden actually gives a damn about me. Putting on my best dramatic voice, I answered, “Sorry, Mr. Aiden. The owner of this phone passed away about thirty minutes ago. Who’s calling, please?” There was a pause—and then his voice dropped. “I’m her boyfriend. Are you saying... she’s really gone?” I kept the act going. “Yes, Mr. Aiden. The cremation’s happening shortly.” But then, Aiden snapped, raising his voice. “Raelyn, do you think this is funny?” I blinked. “How’d you know it was me? I thought I disguised it pretty well.” “You really think I wouldn’t recognize your voice?” he said, exhaling hard. “And don’t you dare lie to me like that again.” I huffed. “Don’t you have anything better to do? Why are you so worried about me, huh?”He didn’t take the bait. Instead, he asked, “In the last photo before the post was taken down... I saw Adam carrying you. You two went to the amusement park together?” I could hear the edge in his voice, like he was holding back anger. It made me uncomfortable. “If there’s nothing else, I’ve got things to do.” I hung up before he could say another word. Then I called Jackson. “Can you take down the trending post? The one about the accident.” Jackson sounded confused. “What for? That post has nothing to do with you.” “What do you mean?” I asked. “Check for yourself.” I set my phone down, opened the news feed, and—just like he said—it was gone. The trending post had vanished, wiped clean. No trace of me anywhere. “Well, looks like I won’t need to trouble you after all.” Jackson hesitated, then asked carefully, “Was it Aiden?” I’d already suspected the same thing. But I wasn’t about to admit it. “Definitely not. Don’t get ahead of yourself.” “Come on, Raelyn,” he teased. “You know it was probably him. I get it; you still have mixed feelings about the guy. But even you can’t deny that Aiden’s into you—” My voice went cold. “Jackson, if you keep running your mouth, I’ll send you on assignment to the witch clan.” “Okay! Raelyn, I was wrong! I’ll shut up now. Total silence. See? Muted. Gone.” I cleared my throat. “Good. Now go do your job—I’ve got things to take care of.” Jackson got the message and hung up right away. Once I’d rested enough, I headed downstairs to leave early. Max and Mary were curled up on the couch watching TV. When they noticed me, both of them looked up and smiled warmly. “Ms. Beck, feeling better?” Mary asked. “No need to call me that. Just Raelyn’s fine,” I said with a smile. “Alright then, Raelyn,” Max said. “Why don’t you stay for lunch? Nora’s been hoping to eat with you all morning.” I glanced around the room, looking for Adam. He wasn’t there. I shook my head. “Thanks, but I’ve got some errands to run. Don’t want to intrude.” “Oh, if you’re looking for Mr. Adam,” Mary said with a knowing smile, “Nora dragged him off to the garden. They’ve been playing out there for a while now.” I pictured Adam getting bossed around by a little girl and couldn’t help but laugh. “Well then, I guess I’ll go take a look.” Max caught the hint and gave Mary a look—she nodded and headed off to start lunch prep. I stepped outside into the garden alone. The backyard was peaceful and full of sunlight. Right away, I spotted Adam sitting in a patio chair near the flower beds. He had a handful of wildflowers in his lap and was patiently weaving them into a crown. A movie star making flower crowns? The contrast was honestly hilarious. “I didn’t know you had this in your skill set,” I said, watching him with a mix of amusement and disbelief. “Picked it up in grade school,” he said without looking up. “You probably wouldn’t guess it, but back when Adrian was little, he was super shy. Total sweetheart. Loved cute little things like this. But none of our older brothers would ever make stuff for him—only I had the patience. So I learned how to make all kinds of flower crowns for him.” The thought of tough, hot-headed Adrian as a shy little kid into flower crowns was too much. I couldn’t help it—I burst out laughing. Just then, Nora came running over with her arms full of fresh-picked flowers. She handed them to Adam like an offering. “Raelyn, your boyfriend is amazing! Look at these flower crowns—he’s so good at this!” Her eyes sparkled with admiration as she stared at Adam like he was a real-life superhero.
