From Betrayal to Brilliance: She Rose Stronger Than Ever
"Athena! How dare you cheat on me!" Lewis's roar sliced through the air like he was the one betrayed. Athena stared at his twisted, furious face—dark as a brewing storm—and almost laughed. Where did this man find the audacity? Kit was just her assistant. And she wasn't about to explain anything to Lewis Belmont. Calmly, she asked, "Lewis, what are you doing here?" Lewis had come planning to swallow his pride and coax her home. Dion had been a nightmare lately, and even Nina couldn't handle him. Lewis still didn't understand how Athena always managed to calm the boy so easily. But walking in to find another man standing in her apartment? That snapped something inside him. The guy was young—fresh out of college at most. Was this why Athena suddenly wanted a divorce? His face turned even darker. He stomped forward, grabbed her wrist, and barked, "Athena, explain this! Who the hell is that guy? Are you sneaking around cheating on me with him?" Kit saw Lewis put hands on her and immediately stepped forward. Athena shot him a sharp look—stand down. Kit froze in place, but stayed close, every muscle tensed, eyes fixed on Lewis in case the man tried anything stupid. Lewis's grip tightened right over the scar on Athena's wrist. The scar she'd earned saving his life. It had healed years ago, but a jolt of pain shot through her—another cruel reminder of how worthless her sacrifices had been to this man. She gritted her teeth. "Let go." Lewis inhaled sharply. He finally noticed her pained expression—and the scar. Where had she even gotten that? Maybe she cut herself cooking. Or maybe she left it ugly on purpose… to earn his pity? He scoffed coldly, finally unclenching his fingers. He stared at her, waiting for tears, excuses—something. Instead, Athena yanked her hand back, braced herself on her crutch, and limped to the door. She opened it with a stone-cold face. "Get out of my house." Lewis stepped right in front of her, blocking the doorway. Jaw tight, voice low and gritted, he demanded, "Athena, don't you have anything to explain to me?" A bitter smile curved on her lips. She lifted her gaze to his, something fierce burning behind her eyes. "And what about you, Lewis? Don't you have anything to explain to me?" Was that "accident" years ago planned?Did he marry her because Nina was pregnant? Did he expect her to nurse Nina's child and raise him as her own? And worst of all—had he killed her daughter? Would he ever admit the truth? For a split second, something flickered across Lewis's expression—guilt. But it vanished quickly, his handsome face smoothing back into cold indifference. His voice came low. "I didn’t check on you when I took Nina to the hospital. That was my bad. But your injuries weren't serious. I didn't think much of it." Athena let out a soft, humorless laugh. Her eyes chilled. "If you're that blind, maybe go find a doctor to fix your eyesight." Her leg had been badly injured, while Nina had only gotten a scratch. Now Athena needed crutches for at least a month. Nina? Barely hurt.Who was truly worse off? Lewis didn't want to dwell on specifics. "Let's just move past it. What will it take for you to come back with me?" "Back where? We don't have a home." And we never will. In one month, I'll finally be free. Lewis frowned. "I still have other properties." “Oh? And which one is Nina living in?" He hesitated. "She's… temporarily staying at one of them. Once everything settles, I'll figure it out." Then he defensively added, "The condominium was destroyed. We should be grateful no one was hurt. What's wrong with letting Nina stay in one of my places? You can't accept that?" Athena stared at him—at the shamelessness in his eyes. Lewis rushed to justify himself when he saw her mocking expression. "Yes, I had a past with her. But that was ten years ago. You're not seriously jealous about that, are you? There's nothing between us now. Don't get the wrong idea."The lies came so naturally he probably believed them himself. Athena only smiled faintly and stayed silent. Lewis mistook her silence as an opening. His voice softened. "Athena, we've been married for years. Sure, things have gotten dull, but I don't mind if you needed a little excitement. Just end it, and come home." Then he added, "Dion's been sick lately. He keeps asking for you." Asking for me? Of course he did. When Dion was sick, he ran to her. Nina had never stayed up all night with him. Never held him through fevers. Never coaxed him through medicine or tantrums. But when he was healthy? He clung to Nina, constantly calling her his "real mom," as if their blood tie meant everything. When he needed comfort, he turned to Athena. When he sought security, he chose Nina. Like father, like son. Neither loyal. Both ungrateful. Athena looked Lewis dead in the eyes. "Do you want me back as your wife—or just to babysit your kid?" Lewis scowled. "Dion is your son. Taking care of him is your duty." Her fingers tightened around her crutch. Even now—after everything—he still dared to lie to her face. Did he really think she was a fool? Maybe because he felt her slipping, Lewis's tone softened again. "Athena, you're my wife. I only have one son—Dion. Everything I own will belong to him someday. Your position in this family is secure."He took another step toward her. "Why fight with Nina? As long as you don't get angry, you'll always be the legal Mrs. Belmont. Come home. Stop making a scene, alright?" Athena's expression didn't change at all. Lewis genuinely believed she cared about being the "legal wife." Believed a handful of empty promises would drag her back to serve him and Nina like before. She wasn't that pathetic. Not anymore. There was nothing more to say. Her voice turned ice-cold. "Let's get divorced. Don't come looking for me again." Lewis had thought lowering himself this much would make her run back to him. He never imagined she'd be the one walking away. His expression darkened instantly. "You really want a divorce?" “Yes.”Once she severed this eight-year nightmare, she would take her time settling the score. And in the end, she would make Lewis Belmont crawl to her daughter's grave to beg forgiveness. Lewis fell silent for a long moment. Finally, he let out a cold, humorless laugh. "I won't divorce you." His voice dropped to an icy sneer. "All these years, I've supported you. You ate my food, spent my money." He leaned in, eyes full of contempt. "Do you really think you can survive without me?"
