From Betrayal to Brilliance: She Rose Stronger Than Ever

Chapter 413 I'm Happy for Athena

Zaden immediately grabbed the nearest pillow and placed it behind Athena's back, then draped a jacket over her shoulders. Every move was smooth and practiced—taking care of her had become second nature to him by now. Even though it had been a month since Athena gave birth, he still treated her like a fragile porcelain doll who needed the utmost care. "How are you feeling today? Is your back still sore?" Zaden sat on the edge of the bed and started gently massaging her lower back. That was where her old injury was. The strain had gotten worse late in her pregnancy, and even with careful care, it sometimes still bothered her. "It's much better." Athena enjoyed his massage, her gaze drifting to the crib. "Our son was so well-behaved last night. He only woke up once, letting me sleep through the night." "He's thoughtful. I guess he takes after you." Zaden chuckled softly. The whole family was basking in the morning light when Beverly's voice was heard from the doorway, deliberately hushed. "Is everyone awake? My precious grandson must be hungry for his milk by now." Soon, Beverly appeared at the door, followed by a maid with a breakfast tray. Ever since Beverly found out Athena was pregnant, her attitude had completely changed. She wanted to take care of Athena around the clock. By her logic, Elijah was still unmarried and childless. Now that Athena and Zaden had a child—well, actually two—Drake would start paying more attention to them, and that meant they'd outshine Elijah in terms of fighting for inheritance. Zaden and Athena could only feel resigned about Beverly's ambitions. But honestly, they didn't mind. At least Beverly was no longer making things hard for Athena, and that alone was good enough. Beverly first peeked at the sleeping baby, her face beaming with joy."Mom, why are you here so early again?" Zaden said with a helpless smile. "You're going to disturb Athena's sleep." "What? Can't I come and check on my precious grandson?" Beverly answered with a shrug, going straight to the crib to look at the baby. Teri no longer held a grudge against Beverly. Now that she saw Beverly treating her mom and her with kindness, she actually started to like her grandma. Little kids don't hold onto old grudges. Teri ran over with a big smile and started telling her grandma all about her little brother's funny moments from the night before. Taking in the lively scene, Zaden couldn't help but smile. He took the tray from the maid and personally set it on the small table in front of Athena. "Eat something first." Breakfast had been specially planned for Athena's recovery and was packed with nutrients. With three generations of Storms together, the room was filled with a quiet, everyday sort of happiness. Sunlight poured into the room, wrapping everyone in a warm glow. Under the soft sunlight, the family's shadows spilled across the floor, tangled together. In that moment, it seemed as if they'd always stay this close, moving as one toward a brighter, warmer tomorrow. Athena's birthday party had been lively. But the happy moment didn't last. An unexpected emergency with Athena shattered the cheerful atmosphere. Zaden had to rush her to the hospital, so they barely noticed what happened to anyone else. The guests left one by one. When Harriet was about to leave, she turned toward the garden as if she remembered something. The night sky was dark and velvet, with stars glittering everywhere. Just as she expected, she spotted Kit there. Kit was completely drunk. As Athena's brother and right-hand man, Kit had been running around all day at Athena's party, planning and coordinating everything. He'd ended up drinking a lot, too. Maybe, deep down, he was feeling a bit lonely. Seeing his sister so happy with her husband and watching Fabio looking so satisfied stirred something inside him. He was genuinely happy for Athena. Harriet had been Athena's best friend for years. She was outgoing and independent. Earlier, after being egged on by Zaden, she'd agreed to pursue Kit to distract him. That was how she ended up working at his company. Now, they were technically boss and employee. But as Athena and Zaden's relationship grew steadier, Harriet and Kit's only got more complicated. In the past, Harriet was worried about her real identity being exposed, so she never dared to make a move on Kit. But things were different now. Kit didn't really need her help anymore. Harriet planned to leave his company and start her own business. She didn't want to spend her whole life working for someone else. Just yesterday, she'd submitted her resignation letter, but Kit hadn't replied yet. She had no idea if he'd accept it. Still, after all this time working for him, she couldn't just leave him like this. Kit was slumped in a chair, looking totally drunk. Harriet grinned and teased, "Mr. Kit, it's Athena's birthday party. Yet here you are, drowning your sorrows with alcohol. What, did you get dumped or something?"Kit glanced up and saw her, so he managed a smile. His voice was low as he replied, "I'm happy. I'm happy for Athena." His tone was normal, but his eyes were blurry with drunkenness. Harriet raised an eyebrow, immediately sensing something was off with his mood. "Athena and Zaden left us all to get home on our own. How are you getting back? You're not planning to sleep out here, are you?"
