From Betrayal to Brilliance: She Rose Stronger Than Ever

Chapter 388 I Have to Go See Him

Just as Athena was about to ask more, another voice came through on Lewis's end of the line. It was clear someone told him his time was up and he needed to go back. The call ended, just like that. Lewis hadn't told her who the man was. Athena stood there, stunned, unable to speak or think. Her ears buzzed, and everything around her seemed to spin. For seven whole years, she'd believed that child was hers and Lewis's. She'd been kept in the dark, and even after divorcing Lewis, she was determined to find her child no matter what. She always worried that her own flesh and blood was somewhere out there, calling someone else mom, maybe not even knowing she existed. But now, everything she thought she knew had been shattered. A storm of rage built up in her chest, threatening to swallow her whole. She didn't know how long she stood there before a man's voice pulled her back to reality. "Athena, are you okay? You look pale." As Athena's vision snapped back into focus, she saw someone standing in front of her. It was Elijah. But she didn't have it in her to deal with him right now, so she just turned and walked away. After she walked away, Elijah stood there, frowning at her retreating figure. He'd only happened to pass by and seen Athena on the phone. She'd looked visibly shaken. She hadn't even noticed he was there. He couldn't hear who was on the other end of the call or what was being said. Still, he got the feeling it was something important to Athena—and that it had nothing to do with Zaden. A sharp glint flashed in Elijah's eyes. He decided he needed to look into it. This might be something he could use in the future. ... Athena made it back to her office, where she slumped into her chair. The news she'd just learned was so overwhelming she could barely process it. She felt lightheaded and emotionally wrecked. There was no way she could work now. She texted Kate to say she had something urgent to deal with and was leaving early. Once Kate replied, Athena packed up and left the hospital. Since it was early, Teri and Zaden weren't home yet. Only the maid was there, who looked surprised and asked, "Mrs. Storm, why are you home so early today?" Athena didn't have the energy to answer, so she just said weakly, "It's nothing. You go on with your work." Dragging her tired body upstairs, she locked herself in her room. She only wanted to rest for a bit, but exhaustion swept over her and she soon drifted off to sleep. Athena started to dream. In her dream, she was with a faceless stranger. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't see who he was, and she couldn't break free. She could only scream in desperation, unable to escape. Tears streamed down her face. Suddenly, the scene shifted. She was lying on an operating table, and she could hear the cry of a baby. Lewis and Nina stood beside her, each holding a baby, staring at her coldly.Athena tried to reach for her child, but no matter how hard she stretched out her arms, she couldn't reach. In the end, Lewis and Nina turned and walked away. Athena watched them grow more distant and could only scream after them. "Ahh!" Athena woke with a start from her nightmare, her heart pounding, her clothes drenched in cold sweat. She glanced outside, realizing not much time had passed since she had gotten home. But in her dream, it had felt like forever. Everything Lewis had said on the phone kept replaying, each word burning into her mind. She took a deep breath, doing her best to calm down. It was then she made up her mind—she'd go see Lewis tomorrow. Whatever his reason for telling her all this, she needed answers. But she didn't want Zaden to know. This was something she had to deal with on her own. Athena changed into loungewear and took a long bath. Soaking in the hot water, she finally felt herself relax a little. No matter what happened, she'd get to the bottom of it. That's right. I have to get to the bottom of this. I need to know the truth. She needed to get every detail of what happened back then out of Lewis. He'd have to spill everything, word for word! By the time Zaden and Teri came home, Athena had composed herself. There was almost no sign of the panic or distress she'd just experienced. As for Zaden, he was surprised to see her back so early.
