From Betrayal to Brilliance: She Rose Stronger Than Ever
"Thank you, Mr. Storm." Zaden noticed that the assistant was quite witty and seemed close to Athena. If he remembered correctly, Athena and this girl were living together in the staff dormitory. Maybe in the future, if anything happened to Athena, he could ask her about it. After thinking for a moment, Zaden looked at Jaylee and asked, "What's your name?" "Mr. Storm, my name is Jaylee. I'm Dr. Hall's assistant," she replied nervously, not expecting him to suddenly ask. She immediately worried that what she'd said earlier might have upset him. He wouldn't take his anger out on Dr. Hall, right? Panicking at the thought, Jaylee quickly explained, "Mr. Storm, everything I said just now was my own opinion. It has nothing to do with Dr. Hall. If you're angry, please don't blame her! She doesn't know anything about this!" She looked so anxious and remorseful that her head was nearly hanging to her chest. Zaden couldn't help finding it amusing. "Alright," he said in a calm voice. "You seem to have potential. If there's any news about Athena, make sure to tell me right away. You won't regret it." After saying that, Zaden took out his phone and asked Jaylee to add his contact information. Once they exchanged numbers, he turned and left. Jaylee stood frozen in place, staring down at her phone in disbelief. She couldn't believe she had actually added Zaden's contact. To someone as ordinary as her, men at the very top like Zaden were like distant stars. Meeting him in person was already shocking enough. That's Mr. Storm! Oh my god! Jaylee couldn't help screaming internally. She almost wanted to tell everyone—but then she remembered what Zaden had said. He clearly wanted her to quietly keep him informed about Athena. So, Mr. Storm really did care about Dr. Hall. The thought made her feel giddy. ... When Zaden reached the lounge, he found the door locked. He knocked a few times, but there was no response. Athena wasn't inside? He noticed that the window beside the door was close enough that he could probably reach the lock from there. After thinking for a moment, he stepped over and slid his hand inside to unlock it. He hadn't expected there would come a day he'd actually do something like this. A wry smile tugged at his lips. When Jaylee had told him Athena was hurt, he'd been so worried he couldn't wait any longer. What if her injury was serious and she'd fainted inside? Once the door was open, Zaden stepped in and walked toward the inner room. After passing through the door, he stepped inside—and to his surprise, saw Athena taking off her white coat. Her shirt was lifted slightly, revealing a glimpse of her waist as she lowered her head, carefully applying medicine to herself. "Athena?"Startled by his voice, Athena jerked in surprise. Her hand slipped, and the cotton swab jabbed directly into the wound. She winced in pain, her face contorting as she sucked in a sharp breath. Zaden rushed forward at once. When he saw her waist, red and scraped raw with a patch of skin rubbed off, his expression darkened and anger flashed in his eyes. "Did Ariana do this?" he asked sharply. Athena quickly pulled her shirt down and looked up at him. "What are you doing here? And why are you sneaking in like a thief? "Mr. Storm, do you realize this is the staff lounge? Outsiders aren't allowed in here without permission!" The moment Zaden heard her call him Mr. Storm, his brows twitched slightly. She was deliberately distancing herself from him. His gaze drifted to her waist again. "I heard you were hurt," he said quietly. "Are you alright?" Hearing his concern made Athena's heart twist. Sigh ... She couldn't deny that part of her was touched. But then she remembered what she'd overheard before, and unease crept back into her chest. She wanted to confront him, to ask the questions gnawing at her heart. But she knew that once she did, things between them would change. And whatever came after that would be beyond her control. Still, one thing she knew for sure: she could never accept that Teri was Maya's child. Zaden noticed her silence and the way she avoided his gaze. Without another word, he stepped to the side, picked up the medical supplies she'd been using, and lifted the hem of her shirt.Athena snapped out of her daze and immediately pressed his hand down in alarm. "What are you doing?" Zaden looked up at her helplessly. "You're injured, aren't you? It's a hard spot to reach. Let me help you." Athena was still upset with him and didn't want him anywhere near her. "Forget it," she said quickly. "I'll ask Jaylee to help me with it." But before she could finish, Zaden had already moved. He lifted her shirt anyway, and Athena could only sigh, giving up the struggle as he carefully began tending to her wound.
