From Betrayal to Brilliance: She Rose Stronger Than Ever

Chapter 333 Confused by the Past

These days, Athena and Teri were almost like real mother and daughter. She treated the little girl as her own, so when she heard the shocking truth, her heart completely fell apart. How was she supposed to face Teri from now on? The heavy feeling wouldn't go away. She didn't know what to do. If Teri really was Zaden and Maya's child, then what right did she have to stay between them, standing in the way of a family that should've never been broken? Athena had no answer. Jaylee didn't know what she was thinking. She asked casually, "Dr. Hall, are you not staying in the hospital dorm anymore? Tomorrow's the weekend, I'm planning to do a big cleaning—should I clear out your room?" "No need," Athena replied instantly. Her tone was cool and firm. "I'll move back to the dorm tonight." Jaylee sensed something unusual. She sounds so resolute. Something must've upset her. Was it that article? Maybe Maya was the one who messed with the journal and since Maya was Zaden's ex-girlfriend, Athena naturally took out her anger on Zaden. She got so mad that she gave him the cold shoulder. Jaylee quickly figured out the reason for Athena's actions in her mind. It had to be said that Jaylee was quick-witted; she was pretty close to the truth. Athena spent the whole day in the hospital, lost in thought. At dinnertime, she couldn't hold back anymore and asked Harriet to meet her, wanting to ask in detail about Maya leaving Zaden back then. They met at a small private restaurant near the hospital. The place was quiet, with private rooms.Athena sat alone for a bit before Harriet arrived, setting down her bag and picking up the menu. "Did you order already?" "No. Order whatever you like." When Harriet heard that, she immediately perked up. She felt like Athena was especially generous. She grinned. "What's with the sudden dinner invite? Something good happen?" "Let me guess!" Harriet rested her chin on her hand and said, "Since you invited me, it must have something to do with me. It's not about your recent successful surgery. I introduced you to Zaden, so it must be related to him!" Athena listened to Harriet's analysis without interrupting. She thought Harriet was quite smart and had guessed half of it correctly. Harriet's gaze suddenly dropped to Athena's stomach. Her eyes widened as she gasped. "Wait, don't tell me you're pregnant?" Athena was silent. Athena couldn't help but admire her friend's wild imagination. Still, the question made her cheeks burn. Legally, yes, she was Zaden's wife, but they had never really been together. Their only night had been abroad and it wasn't exactly planned. After returning home, work and surgeries kept them apart and when things finally calmed down, she heard that. She forced herself to push the thought aside. "No. Stop spouting nonsense." Harriet sighed, looking disappointed. "I thought Teri was going to have a sibling. So if it's not that, why invite me to dinner?"Athena looked straight at her. "I want to know what really happened when Maya left Zaden." "Huh? Why suddenly bring that up? I told you before, she dumped him, didn't she? You already know." Athena shook her head. "That's not detailed enough. Tell me everything that happened before and after. Don't leave anything out." Harriet didn't understand why Athena suddenly wanted to know all this. Was she trying to know her opponent so she would not lose? Because Maya was thinking about Zaden, Athena wanted to know about her so she could find her weakness and deal with her? Actually, Athena didn't need to worry so much. She chuckled softly. "You don't have to worry so much. Even if Maya's still hung up on Zaden, she won't stand a chance. If you gave Teri a sibling, he'd never leave you for her!" Athena knew Harriet must have the wrong idea. But she hadn't confirmed Teri's identity yet, so she couldn't just talk about it casually. If she did, it might give the game away and make Harriet worry about her situation. She decided to investigate everything herself first. Athena suppressed the thoughts in her mind and said to Harriet, "Don't worry about all that. Just tell me. Are you going to tell me or not?"
