From Betrayal to Brilliance: She Rose Stronger Than Ever

Chapter 326 Mother and Daughter in Another Life

Athena sighed helplessly. "It's more than that. The first time you handed me the patient's file, there were already plenty of issues in it. But since the patient later changed their mind, it never got used." She paused, looking a little guilty. "I actually thought it was you, Jaylee. I'm sorry." Jaylee looked shocked at her words, her face full of panic. "Dr. Hall, it wasn't me! I didn't do anything! I'd never do anything to hurt you. Please believe me!" Athena looked at Jaylee's teary expression and could not help but smile a little. Alright, it was all just a misunderstanding. "It's fine. That person didn't actually affect me, and the surgery still went smoothly." Zaden's face turned cold. "Even if it went smoothly, she won't get away with it easily. I'll hand everything she did over to the authorities." Athena nodded. That person had probably taken a bribe from Maya, so there was no way she would plead for her. After a moment, Zaden added, "This period is critical. I'll have people guard the patient's room to make sure nothing goes wrong." Since Maya could send spies again and again, they could not take any chances. Hearing his words, Athena could not help but smile. A warm sense of security filled her chest. Zaden always made sure everything was taken care of for her. Athena stayed at the hospital for a while longer. When the anesthesia finally wore off, the patient woke up, and she could finally relax completely. At this point, the surgery had gone off without a hitch."Let's go home," Zaden said as he came over, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. Athena glanced at the time—it was already late—and nodded. "Let's go." The two of them left together. Zaden drove, and Athena sat in the passenger seat. He turned his head slightly to look at her. "Shouldn't we celebrate your victory today?" The word "celebrate" instantly made Athena think of the time abroad when Zaden celebrated her simulation success. Wait, was he planning something mischievous again? No way. She was not letting him win this time! "We should pick Teri up from school first," Athena said quickly. "Then stop by the farmer's market. I'd rather cook and eat at home than go out." Zaden knew her far too well not to catch on. He truly wanted to celebrate her success, but Athena clearly did not believe him. He could only sigh inwardly and accept the blame. "Alright," Zaden said finally, sounding resigned. Athena grinned. Zaden turned his focus back to the road, one hand holding hers, the other controlling the steering wheel. From behind, Jaylee and Kate watched as the car slowly disappeared into the distance. Jaylee could not help but exclaim, "So Dr. Hall and Mr. Storm are actually together!" Her doubts were finally confirmed! Kate chuckled softly. "Yeah, it finally happened. Guess all my efforts back then weren't in vain." Jaylee blinked, surprised. "Professor Warner, what do you mean by that?" "Nothing," Kate said with a faint smile. "Now that Athena's gotten her reputation back, stay close to her and learn. Someday, you'll be just as capable."Jaylee's eyes lit up. "I will, Professor Warner! Don't worry, I'll work hard and learn everything from Dr. Hall!" Then, a thought suddenly hit her. Athena used to live in the hospital dorms, but now that she had left with Zaden, was she even coming back? Unfortunately, even Athena did not have the answer to that question herself. ... Athena and Zaden drove to Teri's school. It was just dismissal time, and the area was filled with parents picking up their kids. Since Teri had started at Sunny Kindergarten, Athena had not come to pick her up even once, as she had always been too busy with work. Thinking about it now, she felt a little guilty. Zaden glanced at her and said, "Teri's going to be so happy when she sees you picking her up." "Or maybe she'll complain that I haven't done it in forever?" Athena said wryly. "No chance. She's already thrilled just to have you as her mom. She adores you, so she'd never get mad at you." Athena nodded. She could not deny that. There was this strange, instinctive closeness between her and Teri, and she felt a deep, inexplicable tenderness for the girl—something that went beyond blood. Sometimes, she could not help but think that maybe they really were mother and daughter in another life.
