From Betrayal to Brilliance: She Rose Stronger Than Ever

Chapter 206 Regrets

When Zaden heard this, he didn't look happy at all. His frown deepened. He didn't want things to end that way with Athena, which was why he had been making excuses for the past two days. Today, he even purposely waited until after the City Hall closing time before agreeing to go with her. Noticing Zaden's tense expression, Athena tried to stay calm. Seeing that Zaden looked upset, Athena tried to act normal. She chuckled softly, "Alright, don't overthink it. Let's finish shopping and go back. It's getting late, and Teri must be starving." Zaden pressed his lips into a thin line but said nothing more. They bought quite a few groceries before heading home. On the way, Athena scrolled through the photos she'd taken earlier and picked one where she and Teri were making silly faces. She posted it on social media with a short caption. Not long after, Harriet commented under the post, [Wow, Teri really looks like your daughter!] Athena smiled slightly when she saw the comment. She knew Harriet wasn't just being friendly. She actually felt that she and Teri looked a lot like a real mother and daughter. Maybe it was because they had spent so much time together, but they really did have a lot of things in common. A moment later, Harriet even reposted Athena's photo, adding, [My sister-in-law and my little niece are both gorgeous!] She posted this for one person in particular. She knew that Lewis's second account was secretly following her, and she even tagged Kit. This was clearly her way of decaring to them that Athena belonged to Zaden. Harriet smirked proudly after hitting post. "Hmph! Let them keep dreaming about Athena! They don't have a chance anymore!"Meanwhile, Lewis sat by the floor-to-ceiling window, a half-empty glass of liquor in hand, his face dark and gloomy. He had already seen Harriet's post. The sight of Athena smiling so happily while holding Zaden's daughter made his stomach twist with irritation. He'd been part of the recent scheme to separate Athena and Zaden, but they were still together. He had regretted his actions for a long time. In the days since Athena left, his need for her had grown stronger. Lewis clutched his stomach, his face going pale. Drinking on an empty stomach had triggered his old stomach illness again. Athena used to take care of him, helping him feel better whenever he was sick. Those bitter medicines he used to hate were actually lifesavers. Unfortunately, he had lost Athena while he was still treating her like she didn't matter. But by the time he'd pushed her away, it was already too late. His phone suddenly buzzed. Lewis frowned impatiently and swiped to answer. On the other end came Nina's tearful voice. "Lewis, do you really want to divorce me? Please, let's not get divorced, okay? I don't want to leave you." Lewis's expression turned even colder. A sarcastic smile curved his lips. "So it wasn't you who told Albas to go after Athena? You think I don't know? You went that far, and you still think you can stay by my side?" "I was just scared you'd go back to her. Lewis, please, let's not get divorced, alright?" Nina sobbed. Her desperate voice only made him feel emptier. He didn't feel an ounce of sympathy. His disgust for Nina had already reached its peak. He had only married her to gain her family's support. But instead of earning his grandfather's favor, things had gotten worse ever since. It was as if Nina was his curse. Thinking this, Lewis's face became cold. He said harshly, "It's not up to you. I've already had someone pull some strings to file the papers! That's it. Don't call me unless it's important." He was about to hang up when Nina's voice suddenly turned sharp and hysterical. "Lewis, do you really think divorcing me will make Athena forgive you? You think she'll ever take you back after what you've done? You had a child with me! That's a wound she'll never forget!" "Even if you divorce me, you can't be with her again! She has Zaden now. Why would she even look at you?" Lewis's expression went gloomy and he immediately hung up the phone. As the call ended, the noise stopped and the irritation in his heart eased a bit. Lewis tilted his head back and drank the rest of the wine in his glass. The strong alcohol went down his throat and his nerves seemed to relax. Nina's words still echoed faintly in his mind. Athena really might not get back with him, but there was still a chance. Even if he had to use every trick in the book, he would win Athena back. They hadn't completely broken off their relationship yet. Lewis took a deep breath, pushing down his emotions. He dialed his assistant's number. The call was quickly answered. "Mr. Belmont, what are your orders?"
