The Rise of the Rejected Luna

Chapter 275

Adira woke up earlier to make breakfast. She was still in her silk pajamas when she got into the kitchen and found the chef already there. "Good morning, ma'am," he said with an inclination of the head. "Good morning, Logan. You're done from here; I want to make breakfast myself." The young chef was shocked and tried protesting against it, but Adira stood her ground and sent him away. She decided to make some huevos rancheros. A small smile played on the corners of her lips as she moved around the kitchen with practiced ease. Memories of how she had loved cooking for someone who didn't deserve it came flooding back to her. She pushed the thought aside with another smile. The sizzling of bacon on the pan and the clanking of utensils against the pots filled the kitchen, and soon, the aroma of her meal filled the entire house. After a while, she was done and called on Logan to have a taste. When he did, he closed his eyes and moaned in ecstasy. "Oh, my! Oh, my! This is totally amazing, ma'am. I never knew you had such talent in you." He exclaimed. Adira's face was crimson. "Thank you, Logan. Now, let's get them to the dining." He assisted in taking the meals to the dining, and when they were done, Adira asked him to get Nikolai. She felt so nervous when he left and hoped Nikolai would really come down for breakfast. Most mornings, he'd request the meal be brought up to his room, but that morning, Adira was hoping he'd come down for it. She wasn't trying to throw herself at him. She didn't even want to fall for a man she'd be divorcing in three months, but she was hoping they could at least become friends.Nikolai was sitting in front of a large computer screen, typing away on his keyboard with intense focus. The room was dimly lit, with only the glow of the computer screen providing any illumination. Shortly, a knock came on the door, and Nikolai ushered the knocker in. It turned out to be the chef. "Good morning, sir." "Breakfast is ready," Logan said with a lowered head. Nikolai said nothing, neither did he look up from the computer. On a normal day, Logan would have left, expecting him to come down, but he decided to go extra since the young Madame had also gone extra. "And, um, ma'am Adira made breakfast this morning. It's quite delicious," he added excitedly. For the first time, Nikolai tore his gaze from the computer to look at him. Logan's excitement died down immediately after not getting the look he had expected from his boss."You let her cook?" He asked in a sinister voice that spooked Logan. Logan realized he might have made a mistake. "Uh...N... Not exactly, sir. Actually, I tried to stop her, but she insisted. I promise she didn't get hurt during the process." Logan rationalized. He couldn't comprehend what was wrong with Adira preparing breakfast. Looking back at his system, Nikolai mumbled, "I'm not hungry." Logan was astonished. Was he rejecting the meal because it was prepared by Adira? He knew the boss couldn't be questioned or argued with. So, saying nothing, he just left. He returned to the dining room and found Adira already eating. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity upon seeing him. But when she noticed the forlorn look on his face, she realized things didn't go as planned. "He, um, said he's not hungry," Logan reported. Her countenance fell at once. Did he probably say that because he was aware she cooked the meal? She glanced at his plated food, which had been placed on the head of the table. Sadly, he won't have a taste of it. "It's fine, then." She said to Logan and continued eating. ... Done eating, Adira went upstairs to get ready for work. As soon as she left, Nikolai climbed down, already glammed up in his suit and ready for work. His eyes caught the sight of the dining room, which was void of humans, but he noticed some used plates on it as well as a covered tray of food. Nikolai took some steps closer, staring at the covered plate. He knew that was meant for him—the one he had rejected. He drew back the chair and took a seat, lifting the silver dome off the plates. The sight and smell of freshly cooked huevos rancheros filled his nostrils. He hesitated for a long time, fighting the conflicting thoughts in his head. But finally, he drew the plate closer and began eating. **** Adira wore something nice and formal as she got ready for work. Clumping down the staircase with her eyes on her phone, she paused when she got to the dining area and noticed the covered plates she had left for Nikolai were empty. Who ate them? She wondered. "Logan?" She called out. "Logan?" Soon, the young chef came scuttling towards her. "Yes, ma'am?" "What happened to this?" "Did you eat them?" She pointed at the plates. Logan smiled when he noticed. "Not at all, ma'am. "It was actually sir Nikolai; I saw him eating a while ago," he answered fervently. Adira's brows rose in surprise. "He...he did?" "Yes. "I was equally surprised." Adira looked at the plates and chuckled. To think he finished the meal... Finally, she got something that made her smile. "Alright, then. "I'll be off now." "Okay, ma'am." Adira left the house. On her way to the car, she got a call from her private investigator and answered it eagerly. She's been anticipating that call for a long time. "Good morning, ma'am," he saluted. "Yes? Tell me you've got news," Adira questioned, entering her car, which had already been opened for her."Absolutely, ma'am. "They're finally back in the country," he reported. Adira closed her eyes and heaved a deep sigh of relief. At last. "When?" she asked. "Just last night. "I called as soon as I got the information." "Alright, great job." She dropped the call. Looking out the window, she smiled satisfactorily. For nineteen months, she's waited dearly for Lancelot and Jardine. When she learned he had gotten involved in an accident and was in a coma, she decided to keep an eye on them and await when he'd regain consciousness. A few days ago, she heard he was out of coma and kept praying for his return. And now they were finally back. If only they knew how long she'd waited for this moment. For nineteen months, they delayed her revenge. but not anymore. She was finally going to have her pound of flesh.
