She Wore Many Masks, and Ruled Them All

Chapter 512 The Confrontation

"Lucas! You get out here!" Her hysterical voice was particularly piercing in the quiet corridor. "Give me back my son!" The door to the hospital room opened, and Lucas walked out slowly. He was wearing a simple white shirt, sleeves rolled to his elbows, his expression as calm as deep water. "Where is Kelvin?" Madam Aubrey's makeup was a mess, her eyes bloodshot. "Where did you hide him?" Lucas motioned for the stunned nurse to leave and said flatly, "I don't know." "Liar!" Madam Aubrey slammed her handbag onto the floor. "You've wanted my attention since you were a child! You're jealous I doted on Kelvin, so you hid him, didn't you?" "Are you finished?" Lucas cut her off, his gaze terrifyingly calm. "If you're finished, you can leave." Madam Aubrey froze, clearly not expecting this reaction. She suddenly lunged, grabbing his collar. "What right do you have to be so calm? Did you harm him?" Lucas gently pried her fingers off. "If you want to find your son, go find him yourself." He straightened his rumpled collar, his voice chillingly calm. "From this day on, you and I are no longer mother and son. You can go wherever you want. No one will be locking you up anymore." Madam Aubrey stood frozen, her scarlet fingernails digging deep into her palms. "You can go find Kelvin. You can continue your madness." Lucas's gaze was as sharp as a blade. "But if you dare to harm Grandma again, or damage the Hawthorne family in the slightest…" He took a step forward, his tall frame casting Madam Aubrey in shadow. "Don't blame me for what happens next." After speaking, Lucas turned to leave. Madam Aubrey tried to follow, but Beth blocked her path. Beth, in her high heels, stood in front of Madam Aubrey. Her well-maintained face wore an elegant but dangerous smile. "Madam Aubrey, please stay." Madam Aubrey narrowed her eyes. "Who are you? What business is this of yours?""Of course it's my business." Beth slowly removed her diamond earrings and put them in her bag, then suddenly grabbed Madam Aubrey by the collar. "Lucas is half a son to me now. You tell me if it's my business." Madam Aubrey stumbled back two steps, shocked by the sudden action. "Wh-what are you doing?" "What am I doing?" Beth sneered, her grip tightening. "I should be asking you. Back then, you had an affair while married, betraying Lucas and his father. Now you're here making a scene over an illegitimate son. Are you even fit to be a mother?" The nurses and patients in the hallway were stunned. They hadn't expected the noble and elegant Beth to suddenly explode like this. Madam Aubrey struggled to push her away. "Since you know I'm Lucas's mother, let me go. Otherwise, with one word from me, Sloane can forget about marrying into the Hawthorne family." Hearing this, Beth sneered, elegantly tucking a stray hair behind her ear. "Madam Aubrey, are you still living twenty years in the past?" She suddenly stepped closer, her sharp gaze piercing her. "The Hawthorne family, right now, is run by Lucas. What qualifications do you, a Madam Aubrey with no real power, have to stand here and point fingers?" Madam Aubrey's face changed drastically. "I am his mother!" "Mother?" Beth's voice rose sharply, causing everyone in the hall to turn and look. "When you had an affair and gave birth to an illegitimate son, why didn't you remember you were his mother? When you neglected Lucas for more than twenty years, why didn't you remember you were his mother? When you nearly got Madam Tessa killed over that illegitimate son, why didn't you remember you were his mother? And now you still have the nerve to call yourself a mother?"
