Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 69 Got What She Deserved

When her son died, she just cried and complained to her neighbors in the hallway. She was too scared to go to Natalie and cause trouble. Olivia glanced at Florence curiously and said, "Didn't that old lady get kicked out by the residents on the fifth and sixth floor? I can't believe she's still alive. But she didn't dare to come find you back then, why would she suddenly show up today?" Natalie shrugged, totally unfazed. "She must have nowhere else to go. Maybe she wanted to drag me down with her before she died?" People are like that. No matter how scared they are, they can find courage when they're at the end of their lives. Billionaires treasure their life, but a terminally ill and hopeless person fears no one. Olivia nodded and said, "It's already a miracle that she could survive this long after getting kicked out. She probably knew she couldn't hold on any longer, so she came here to ambush you." "Ambush?" Natalie scoffed and smiled sarcastically. What kind of ambush starts with yelling? Did she think this is some kind of drama? She hadn't even swung her knife, yet she was already screaming insults. She got what she deserved, huh? By now, Olivia had completely recovered from her shock. She spat on the person on the ground. "The Lafferty brothers brought it on themselves. And this old woman too—she deserved it. Good thing you didn't get hurt!" She looked at Natalie with admiration and said, "You're really amazing. I was totally shocked just now." Natalie smiled and responded, "You'll get used to it with time." Olivia was surprised and waved her hands quickly. "No, please, no more time. I just hope this flood dries up soon." She clenched her fist, eyes shining, and said, "Our lives will go back to normal one day." Natalie didn't answer. The flood would eventually dry up, but only because the extreme heat was coming. Still, she didn't want to break Olivia's hope. After all, people need hope to have the courage to move forward. Together, the two of them lifted Florence's body and threw it out the window. With a loud splash on the water’s surface, several crocodiles swam over. Just like that, another life quietly vanished from the world without a trace. In the following days, Olivia would go up to the 14th floor to give Natalie needle therapy and then to the 15th floor to treat Ghania's leg. A week passed and both of them were healthy again. Natalie did a few quick squats in a row without feeling dizzy. She was thrilled and exclaimed, "Your therapy is amazing. It fixed me right up." Through the therapy, she had more expectations in traditional treatment. "Olivia, keep studying. In a few days, you can check my condition to see if there's any more therapy I might need. "You'll get food and I'll have a healthy body. It's a win-win." Olivia smiled and agreed. She thought to herself, "This girl really treasures her life." What Olivia didn't know was, to Natalie, getting a second chance at life meant more than just surviving. She wanted to live freer, stronger, and with more excitement. Her dream was simple. It was to have a killer body and a strong physique. With the crocodiles showing up, it didn’t take long for other kinds of fish to show up in the water. People cheered with excitement. Finally, they didn't have to starve. Everyone started thinking of ways to catch them. Harold, Olivia, and Natalie became closer and started working together because of the medical treatments. Harold's family had plenty of grains and vegetables, but no meat. The frozen meat in their fridge was long gone. Both the mother and son loved eating meat, and lately they had only survived thanks to the beef jerky and other snacks traded from Natalie. With all the fish starting to show up, Harold immediately made them his target. His biggest problem was that neither he nor his mother knew how to swim. Thus, he asked Olivia, who was a good swimmer, to join him. In case he fell in, at least someone could save him. Even if she couldn’t help, just having her in the boat made him feel safer. The water was unpredictable. Although his family had a kayak, it was nowhere near the safety of an inflatable rescue boat. He ended up asking Natalie to borrow hers. Natalie wasn't really interested in fishing, but they asked so nicely. They even said she didn’t have to help—just let them use her boat—and they’d split the catch. Natalie thought it over and agreed. Since she wasn't helping with the work, she said she would only take the smallest share. Harold made a fishing tool and used a strong tranquilizer they had created. With Olivia's help, they managed to take down several crocodiles and catch a good haul of fish. With everyone fishing, people finally had enough to eat. They even started a large floating market on the water.
