Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
"Southwest..." Matthew twisted his body as he checked the compass, then pointed down the slope. "Right there!" Jarvis followed Matthew's finger and spotted a small town far away. "That is..." Matthew squinted, then suddenly exclaimed. "Greendale!" Before the apocalypse, he'd visited the Greater Northwest twice. Greendale's scenery had stuck with him. Jarvis said, "Good. Let's move." Matthew frowned at the corpse on Jarvis' back. "Are you seriously carrying your brother all the way down?" Jarvis shook his head. "I'll bury him once we find a proper place." Matthew didn't get it. "Why not just bury him next to the camp?" That area was quiet, peaceful, and full of people Zyrell knew. Jarvis gave Matthew a look as if he were an idiot. "There are beasts." Matthew finally remembered. That was right. When they first arrived, they had found tracks from some large four-legged animal. Something had probably been treating the whole camp like a giant frozen pantry. Matthew broke into a cold sweat. "Let's get out of here now! If that thing shows up again, we're done." Jarvis kept walking and muttered, "You're such a coward." Matthew rolled his eyes behind him. Yeah, sure. If you're that brave, go wrestle the beast yourself. They kept going downhill, each lost in their own thought. Not far behind them, a white tiger stepped into the camp and watched them leave without making a sound. It was the same white tiger Cash used to feed. It had been hiding inside the cave behind the main tent. Even though the warehouse deeper inside had collapsed, the area near the entrance remained intact. It was narrow, but it was warm and safe enough. It didn't chase those two earlier because something in their scent was strange. The thinner man smelled like a butcher—someone who had killed way too many living things. The white tiger sensed nearby danger immediately. It couldn't help thinking about Lucky. If she ever ran into that butcher, who would win? Meanwhile, after Natalie cleared out Greendale Gang's underlings, she teleported into Fiorella's twostory house with Cassian and the three little ones. As soon as she entered, the emerald screen by the door caught her eye. That thing was a treasure. Fiorella was rich! The emerald wasn't just massive—it was deep green and shiny, a highend piece. On top sat a purple guardian ornament—also emerald. And besides that, the place had gold ornaments, crystal geodes, and even an emerald shoe-changing bench. Cassian caught Natalie staring with sparkles in her eyes and couldn't help smiling. She never hid it when she liked something, and it made him want to bring her every treasure he could find. Thinking that, he suddenly couldn't wait to show her the southern warehouse full of treasures. Meanwhile, Natalie was already slipping valuables into her space quietly so nothing would get smashed during the fight. Just dealing with the Greendale Gang had turned out amazing. Who cared if she used up bullets and explosives? That giant emerald screen alone was worth the trip. A toptier emerald that big—how many bracelets and necklaces could she make from it? Just imagining her storage leveling up made her thrilled. Just then, voices floated down from the second floor. "Fiorella, what should we do now? The guys outside are probably gone!" Fiorella snapped, furious, "How should I know? I called you here to fix the mess—not ask me questions!" Another man jumped in to calm her. "Fiorella, don't stress yourself. It's bad for your health. Relax. We'll figure out how to kill them." She only got angrier. "How? Tell me!" After a few seconds of silence, the first man sighed heavily. "If Boss were here, nobody would dare touch us." "That's true. But he's far away in Rastopia. Too far to get here. He's busy dealing with big stuff in the west. He won't bother with Greendale's small troubles." Fiorella yelled again, "Then why waste time talking?! Think of something! They'll break in any minute!" "Fiorella, you should escape through the tunnel first. We'll handle the rest. No matter what, keeping you safe comes first." Natalie and Cassian recognized that voice—it was Anthony. The other two men agreed. "Yeah. Fiorella, you go first."
