Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 638 Matthew and Jarvis

All the underlings ended up in the same state. A thick sheet of ice covered every inch of their bodies. At first, they ran around screaming and panicking. But with Natalie pouring water nonstop, they froze solid within moments. From above, she could see rows and rows of "ice sculptures" standing upright. It was quite a sight. She cut off the stream of water and sighed inwardly. She should've thought of that earlier. In -94°F, water was basically the perfect weapon. And since she had endless water sitting in her storage space, using it was too easy. Once trapped in ice like that, none of them would stay alive long. There would be no need to waste bullets. After wiping out the enemies outside, Natalie blinked back to Cassian's side. Then, they looked toward the threestory building at the very end. That was where the rest of the gang had taken shelter. They clearly heard the screams from below. A few men peeked out nervously through the windows, and some even shoved the door open to run out. The three little ones took them down immediately. Natalie and Cassian split the work smoothly—one smashed in the windows using rocks, and the other lit the fuses and tossed explosives inside. From the lowest floor to the top, every window they could reach on those three sides got hit. Explosions blasted through the building, shaking it so hard that it almost leaned to one side. Natalie couldn't help commenting, "This place is stronger than it looks." If it were one of those shoddy constructions back in Northlorn, it would've been rubble already. Cassian said quietly, "The building is sturdy. The people aren't." With their fullscale bombardment, it was unlikely anyone inside was still alive. Even so, Natalie stayed careful and sent Lucky to check. "Go sniff around. Anyone still alive?" Lucky ran off, sniffing along the ground. Shockingly, there were survivors. Natalie asked, "How many?" Lucky barked, "Ow! Ow! Ow!" Natalie counted out loud, "Three?" Lucky nodded. Natalie patted her fluffy head. "Good girl. Take us to them." With the dog leading them, they found three people who had survived by hiding in little corners the blasts hadn't reached. They were hurt, but alive. After finishing them off cleanly, Natalie and Cassian stepped out of the smoky building. Then, they looked toward the small, shabby twostory building in the middle. Only Fiorella's group was left now. Taking out the four inside wouldn't need any more explosives. Five against four was easy. Meanwhile, in the mountains not far from Greendale, two men walked through the cold, searching for someone. The taller one, Matthew Grant, frowned. "Jarvis, are you sure your brother is here?" The shorter, skinnier man, Jarvis Selwyn, nodded firmly. His Drakoric had a weird accent to it."He's here! My tracking technique never fails!" Matthew frowned even deeper. "But with weather like this, how would anyone survive outside? Unless he's already—" Jarvis cut him off instantly, "Dumbass! You—shut up!" Matthew shrank back and obediently followed behind. Jarvis kept walking, forming hand seals every now and then and mumbling strange incantations. After a while, his eyes lit up as he blurted in Borduric, "Found it!" Matthew blinked. "What?" Switching back to Drakoric, Jarvis repeated, "Here! He's close!" Matthew perked up. "Good. We finally reached it." The two sped up, climbed a small rise, and spotted a half-buried campsite under the snow. The biggest tent stood out right away. The smaller ones were buried up to their tops. The whole place was silent—tents everywhere, but not a single person in sight. There were some tracks on the snow, but not human ones. They looked like something from a big four-legged beast. Matthew felt uneasy. "Jarvis, something is wrong here..." Jarvis' expression darkened even more. He moved forward without answering. They dug open the tents closest to them. Inside were bodies lying quietly, untouched. It was obvious they had frozen to death while sleeping. The extreme cold had kept the bodies intact, without the slightest decay.Matthew said again, "Jarvis, is your brother actually here? Looks like nobody made it." Jarvis gritted his teeth and barked in his odd Drakoric, "Matt! If you talk nonsense again, I'll kill you!" Matthew swallowed hard and stopped talking. He and Jarvis had originally lived across from each other. Jarvis had rented the house right opposite his.
