Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 593 The Next Day

Natalie had been moving nonstop for an entire day. When dawn began to break, every inch of her body screamed for a hot bath and a good massage. She sank into the tub, the warm bubbles wrapping around her until her skin turned pink. The exhaustion slid off her shoulders like melted wax. After washing up, she cleaned everyone's climate suits. The material barely caught dirt and was as thin as a butterfly's wing. It dried in ten minutes once hung inside her manor. When the chores were done, she put on a face mask, slipped into soft pajamas, and stepped out of her storage space. The second she appeared, she almost jumped. A pair of dark eyes were fixed on her in the dim light. "You're still awake?" she blurted. Lucky was snoring on the bed. Cash and Baron were both out cold. Only Cassian stayed awake, staring at her like he was waiting for her to return. Natalie frowned and pushed his shoulder. "They're all asleep, so keep your hands to yourself." Cassian pulled her into his arms anyway. "I'm not doing anything," he murmured. Before she could say another word, his breathing slowed. His chest rose and fell softly. "Did he just fall asleep?" she whispered. "That fast?" Natalie sighed and pulled the blanket higher over him. He'd worked himself to the bone all day, flying, fighting, setting everything up. He deserved the rest. But seriously, did he have to hold her every time he slept? What was she, a life-sized plush toy? She tried to move, but his grip only tightened. Not wanting to wake him, she gave up and shut her eyes. When she opened them again, it was already noon. The spot next to her was empty. She stretched, but the moment her arm slipped out from under the blanket, the cold hit like a slap. Even with the heater on, the air felt like ice. Natalie groaned, pulled her arm back under the covers, and turned her head. The couch bed had been folded back to normal, and Cassian sat there reading a book with the kind of calm that didn't look real. He looked like he'd stepped out of a painting. Lucky, Cash, and Baron were curled together at his feet, forming a perfect little pile of fur and feathers. Lucky noticed her first. She perked up, tail wagging wildly, and darted toward the bed. "Ow, ow! Ow ow ow! Ow ow!" You're finally up! The guy wouldn't let me wake you! I was just barely holding it in! Cassian lowered his book. "You're up?" "Yeah." She rubbed her eyes. "And she's saying … what, exactly?" Cassian gave Lucky a glance. "I stopped trying to translate her a long time ago." Lucky froze. Her tail stiffened, ears twitching in disbelief. She turned away with a single huff, clearly offended. She wanted to approach her owner, but Natalie disappeared. Then she barked at Cassian. Cassian explained, "It's freezing out here. She's in her storage space getting changed." Right now, Natalie was back inside her manor, lounging on the couch with her legs stretched out.The temperature inside was perfect. Not too hot, not too cold. She smiled lazily. "If only I could live here full-time," she muttered. Six hours a day wasn't enough. If there wasn't a time limit, she'd never leave. After washing up, she slipped back into a fresh climate suit and stepped out. The moment she appeared, she froze. Cassian had set the table. Steam curled up from the food, filling the room with warmth and the smell of breakfast. There were baked potatoes, egg muffins, shrimp balls, and toasted salad. Natalie's eyes widened. "Where did you get all this?" Cassian tested the temperature of a plate with his hand. "I made it. I already ate. This is yours." He nodded toward the small kitchen. "The van's fully stocked. Food, gear, everything. I cooked outside so I wouldn't wake you." Natalie suddenly remembered the supplies she'd stuffed into the RV long before her storage space expanded. When she'd used it yesterday, she'd emptied the back but not the fridge or the cabinets. She smiled as she looked at the table. "You've outdone yourself. Thanks." She took a bite of the shrimp ball. It was light, savory, and perfect. The smell alone made Lucky drool. Natalie shot the trio a warning look. "They've eaten, right?" Cassian nodded. "Yeah. I fed them already. Go ahead." Natalie smiled again. Inside, she was thinking, This man's ridiculous. Handsome, gentle, can cook, too. He's like some fairytale husband. She bit into the warm egg muffin, savoring the flavor, then reached out to nudge Lucky. "Hey, stop staring. You already had breakfast. You'll explode if you keep begging."Lucky gave a tiny whine and turned away, pretending to sulk. When she finished eating, Natalie stood up and stretched her arms. "I'm going downstairs. Need to walk off the food and take a look around." Cassian closed his book. "I'll come." Natalie shook her head. "Stay. Keep reading. I'll be fine. If anything happens, you'll hear me."
