Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 562 The Vault of Plenty

Food, wine, daily goods, clothes—it felt like stepping into the storage hall of a major survival base. Only this one put any base she'd seen to shame. The supplies out there were scavenged junk—dirty, dented, half-rotten. But everything here was sealed in pristine packaging, untouched by dust or time. There were even arcade machines and children's play equipment stacked neatly in one corner. Natalie's eyes lit up as she strode inside, turning in a slow circle to take it all in. The design inside was simpler than outside—no rooms or partitions, just one vast cavern larger than a football field. Rows upon rows of supplies stretched into the distance, the sight alone overwhelming. Even Natalie, who had seen plenty, couldn't hold back her awe. "You've got almost as much as I do." Cassian replied modestly, "It just looks impressive. Most of it's from two shopping malls. I doubt I have even half your food reserves." Natalie smirked. "Good thing I took that mall in Pharmville District off your hands. Otherwise, this place wouldn't have fit it all." Cassian chuckled at her shameless remark. "You're right. I should thank you for that." Natalie glanced at him, then laughed, feeling slightly sheepish. This vault held the contents of two northern shopping malls, along with the high-value goods Cassian had hoarded during the early floods. Combined with his personal collections, the sheer volume was staggering. If she hadn't later started her own small ventures, raided the Boltons and Ashfords, and taken over the Cassiland Base and the Grayhound Sect, her stockpile wouldn't have come close. Still… She turned to him. "Are your other two warehouses this big too?""About the same," Cassian said simply. Natalie twitched her lips. So if you added all three together, his total supply would surpass hers easily. Of course. Hard-working entrepreneurs could never outmatch old money. All her hard-earned hoards, compared to Cassian's legacy wealth, suddenly looked insignificant. Cassian, sensing her thoughts, smiled. "They're all yours now anyway. Besides, you have more firepower than I do." It was true—Natalie could pull assault rifles out of thin air like party favors. He only kept a few handguns for defense, and one of his Uzis had already ended up in her hands. As they talked, a loud crash echoed behind them. Three shelves had toppled, spilling goods everywhere. The culprits stood frozen, wearing identical "not me" expressions. Lucky had charged straight into the snack section, rolling in it like a dog in a rice barrel. Cash had flown up to the top shelves, smirking at the chaos below, and Baron—ever loyal to the boss—had immediately jumped in to tattle and throw punches. The three of them had soon descended into chaos, knocking down shelves and scattering supplies across the floor. Natalie frowned. Kids—spoil them a little and they'd tear the place apart. She barked, "Stop fooling around! Come here! All of you, back into the storage space for a nap!" Lucky yelped, darting forward to wrap around her leg, tail wagging desperately. She had no interest in sleeping. She wanted to stay with her master, explore, and collect loot. She could nap anytime—but coming out for an adventure like this was rare.Eyes glistening, the dog clung to her leg. "Master, you know I left my mom the moment I was born. I've been with you ever since … This is my first real trip. You can't lock me away now!" As it pleaded, it kept sneaking glances at Cassian. Come on, handsome brother, help me out here! Cassian pretended to be busy—because the other two were also shooting him desperate looks. Natalie didn't understand Lucky's "ow-ow-ow," but her body language and face said enough. With her exaggerated "can't you forgive me?" expression, she couldn't help but burst out laughing. "Fine, fine, go play," she said, waving it off. So much for trying to be a strict parent. Lucky, pardoned, bounded back to its shelf, tail high, and made a face at Cash on the way. Cash flapped down indignantly. "Master, you know, I've been with you since—" "Go on, get out of here too!" Natalie interrupted, exasperated. Then she turned to Baron. "And you, don't even come near me!" Baron blinked, confused. I didn't even do anything! Once the three little ones finally quieted down, Natalie sighed in relief and looked back at the piles of supplies before her. Wait—what had she been about to do again? Cassian grinned. "What are you thinking about? Start collecting."
