Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 544 All Alone Now

The person looked puzzled. "Wasn't that him inside?" Then he explained, "Yesterday, two men were brought in together. One named Derek had been in the livestock pens before. The other one was new, looked well-dressed, kept crying out for his daughter. "After these two were brought in, they kept making a fuss, acting crazy, insisting they had to get out and save their daughters. Said their daughters had been taken to that filthy labor camp ... "Later they caused such a ruckus that the guards dealt with them. "Tsk, after they were dragged into the slaughter room, they kept shouting for quite a while! One was yelling something about 'Rosalie,' the other was calling out ... I think it was 'Iris.'" As they spoke, he looked at Iris. "Seeing you come looking, I thought you must be one of their daughters." After hearing this, Iris's emotions completely broke down. Her legs gave out and she collapsed to the ground, sobbing hysterically. After a long while, she suddenly went quiet, her eyes vacant. "Thank you. That wasn't my dad inside. "My dad is still alive. "He just went home first." As Iris spoke, she stumbled out of the livestock pens like a walking corpse. She made her way downstairs in a daze. The first-floor lobby was completely silent. The women from the labor camp had all run to the granary. The entire hall was so quiet she could only hear her own breathing. Iris ran out of the Grayhound Sect, stepping into the thick fog with a lost expression. She stood rooted to the spot for a moment, suddenly not knowing where to go.Where was her home? Without her phone or GPS, she had no idea which way was which. Between the fog and her grief, Iris's emotions spiraled out of control. She randomly picked a direction and charged forward blindly. After just a few steps, she suddenly noticed a figure not far from the roadside, bent over and busy doing something. Someone from the Grayhound Sect was still alive? She thought of the bodies in the slaughter room and suddenly shouted, swinging her fist as she charged forward. Every last one of these bastards deserved to die! She rushed forward, but before her fist could land, she was suddenly flipped over in a shoulder throw. Iris cried out in pain but refused to give up. She cursed loudly, "Bastard! You're all bastards! Pay with your lives!" While shouting, she struggled to stand up, ready to attack again. "Are you crazy?" a familiar voice said. Iris froze. She wiped away her tears and finally saw the other person's face clearly. "Bruno?" Bruno frowned, looking at Iris's tear-stained face. "Where's your father? Didn't you go find him?" Iris looked at Bruno's strangely deformed, terrifying face, but she wasn't afraid. Instead, she suddenly calmed down. She opened her mouth, meaning to say that her Dad's fine and he went home first, but somehow she suddenly burst into tears again and said through her sobs, "My dad was killed by bad people!"Then like a dam breaking, she continued. "My mom was killed by them too! "Our family of three was fine before, and now suddenly it's just me left! "I'm an orphan now. I don't have a mom or dad anymore!" Hearing these words, Bruno couldn't help but look down at the ground. There was a crude dirt mound with a wooden board beside it, with crooked writing that read "Whitney's Grave." Bruno clenched his fists. His hands were covered in dirt and wounds. Yes! Everything was fine before, and suddenly he was the only one left too. He'd been digging here the whole time. Although those thugs had actually buried Whitney and hadn't desecrated her body, he still couldn't allow Whitney to be buried alone next to the Grayhound Sect. He had to take her home. Whitney had said she wanted to stay home and wait to see her parents. Augustin Jensen and Itzel Jensen might come back from overseas any day now. He had to take Whitney back to wait for them. When she saw her parents, she'd be so happy ... Bruno touched the side pocket of his pants. Inside was Whitney's bracelet that Joe had given him. Not long ago when he'd passed through the first-floor lobby, he'd seen Joe's body. The lollipop-shaped hair clip he'd taken from Whitney was still pinned to his clothes. Bruno had stopped and stared at him for a while. Although the kid had tried hard to protect Whitney before and had eventually laid her to rest, Bruno didn't appreciate it.If it weren't for him and his mother, Whitney wouldn't have died! This guy didn't deserve Whitney's friendship. Even in death, he wouldn't allow this brat's soul to have any connection with Whitney. So he'd removed that hair clip, thrown it on the ground, stomped it to pieces, and then strode away. Bruno snapped back to the present, looking at Iris who was still cursing the Grayhound Sect non-stop, emotions so worked up she was about to pass out. He shouted, "Calm down!" Then he tore off the bottom of his shirt, folded it a few times, and tied it around Iris's face like a mask.
