Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
"Natalie ... " Would she kill his mom? Standing in the water, he couldn't stop crying. Why couldn't he take revenge? If something really happened to his mom, he wouldn't just let it go! So what if she was strong? No one stayed strong forever. One day, he'd grow up. By then, she'd be old—could she still beat him? He stood there, teeth clenched, heart racing with fear and worry. He kept praying that his mom would come back safe. He already lost Whitney; he couldn't lose his mom too. That Natalie ... Why doesn't she just die? Please, just die already ... When Lisa came out of the grain depot, Cassian had just taken down Nicholas. The two were about to head inside. Lisa reacted fast. She threw two handfuls of flour at them and, using her knowledge of the area, ran off. Natalie got a face full of flour and instinctively pulled Cassian and Lucky into the storage space, just in case it was poisonous or to avoid a blind attack. After about ten seconds, once the air cleared, they cautiously stepped out from another side. They looked inside the grain depot—no one was there. Cassian pointed. "I think I heard her run that way." Both of them looked down at Lucky. When it came to tracking people, she was the expert. Lucky looked proud. "Ow, ow, ow!" Follow me! And just like that, the pup sniffed the trail and led them straight to the banquet hall. It was completely empty, except for a severed head lying on the floor. Natalie looked down and confirmed it was the deputy leader she'd slit the throat of earlier. The Grayhound Sect was really falling apart. Their deputy leader didn't even get a proper burial; just his head was tossed on the floor like trash. What kind of mess is this? Well, maybe it was great they were so divided. If all 500-plus members from Hillside Villa District had attacked them at once, that would've been scary. Even if they won, their arms would've been sore for days from all the shooting. Natalie scanned the room. It was empty, no one in sight. But Lucky stood firmly in front of one wall. Cassian went over and noticed the wall wasn't solid. Hard to see, but there was a tiny seam in the middle. He knocked twice. It sounded hollow. He glanced back at Natalie. "Hidden door." Natalie came over and studied it. "Sliding type, too." Cassian warned, "Be careful." Natalie nodded. They each grabbed a side and slowly opened the hidden door. As the door slowly opened, Lisa stared in shock from inside. How did they find her so fast? She hadn't run far earlier. With so little time and worried about leaving Joe alone at the hotel, she'd hidden here in the hall instead. She planned to wait for a chance to sneak attack. This hidden storage space behind the sliding wall was originally designed for dramatic wedding entrances. It wasn't much bigger than a closet, just enough for a few people. It was so well hidden, her group had almost missed it when they first arrived. After throwing the flour, she'd rushed straight here, betting the enemy would assume she'd run outside. But somehow, they still found her. She nervously gripped the old gun in her hands—it had no bullets. No chance for a sneak attack now; she'd have to fight head-on. Looking out, she saw the familiar dog. Lisa's face showed disbelief. "General Snow?!" "General Snow" was the name she'd given Lucky. With her snow-white fur and impressive presence, she deserved a majestic name as her battle pet. But ... how was she still alive? And why was she leading the enemy to her?! Lucky saw her and bared her teeth in displeasure. Stop giving me lame names, dumb lady! My name's Lucky! Rich and lucky! My hooman picked it! General this, soldier that—so ugly! She'd spent an hour getting humiliated, threatened with a gun, just to keep the bad woman happy. Now her hooman was here! With backup on her side, she got cocky right away. After baring her teeth at Lisa, she nuzzled against Natalie sweetly.Hooman, I was just playing with her. You are the one I really care about! Natalie chuckled and patted her big head. Judging by Lisa's reaction, it seemed Lucky had been treated pretty well while she was missing? She even got a cool new name! Lisa's face darkened as she watched them. If she didn't get their relationship now, she'd have to be an idiot.
