Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 509 Smart Move

Raven didn't think too much. She had been lost in her own thoughts for a while, but seeing all the lively animals made her feel less scared and much happier. She had always liked small animals. Before she ended up here, she often helped rescue stray pets. Even when her school and work kept her busy, she still found time once a week to volunteer at an animal shelter. She could tell most types of cats and dogs apart, and most small animals seemed to like her right away. Looking at the three little ones, she couldn't stop exclaiming, "Whoa! This bulldog is huge! It's cute! "And that big white rabbit looks so strong! "Wait ... what's that flying thing? Is it a chicken?" Lucky noticed the new people coming. First, she gave a cautious look at Theodore, who had deep eyes, then she looked at Raven, whose eyes sparkled like stars. Hmm. The girl seems nice. But the guy doesn't seem trustworthy. She immediately barked at Theodore a few times, warning him to back off. Theodore looked at the fierce dog, then at the broken gate. He pulled Raven back a little, and his hand instinctively went to the gun at his waist. Suddenly, a woman shouted from behind them, "Who's there?" Lucky instantly changed her attitude, wagging her tail happily and barking in a friendly way, "Ow, ow, ow!" Hooman is home. Theodore, worried about being shot by accident, raised his hands. "Neighbor! Theodore Mervyn. Don't shoot." He slowly turned around and saw Natalie's group.Cassian waved his hand. Natalie, Roderick, and the others lowered their guns, though Natalie kept her finger lightly on the trigger. Cassian looked at Theodore. "What are you doing here?" Theodore brushed the yellow streak in his hair and smiled lazily. "We heard gunshots. Came to see if you needed some help." Natalie didn't let him off easy. "If you wanted to help, you're kind of late, aren't you?" Olivia and Harold added, "Yeah, we already took care of them." Theodore stayed calm and friendly. "That's not quite right. We were actually here yesterday." Cassian raised an eyebrow. "Yesterday?" Theodore nodded. "Yep. Didn't you notice all the slit throats when you cleaned up the bodies? That was us." He patted Raven on the shoulder. "My friend here was scared out of her mind the first time she ever killed someone, all to help you guys!" Raven had been watching Lucky, so the sudden pat made her jump. She almost fell over. Theodore pointed at her and laughed. "See? She's still haven't gotten over it." Natalie didn't buy his act. "Smart move. You're smart enough to know we're in this together, huh?" Theodore's smile froze for a moment, then came back. "Ms. Ashford, you're quick to notice, huh?" He watched Natalie carefully, impressed. She had no weaknesses. Smart, confident, quick—and she even had a superpower. If she could become one of his allies, it would make a huge difference. But if she became an enemy ...Before he could think any further, Cassian stepped in and blocked his view. "The danger's gone. You can leave now." With Natalie hidden behind him, Theodore stared at Cassian for a moment, then gave a small, polite smile. "Okay. See you later." He gently pulled Raven along. Raven gave the others a polite wave, then looked back at the three little ones, not wanting to leave. "Bye-bye, you pretty big doggie!" The vain Lucky grinned when the pretty girl complimented her. Feeling her friendly words, she even wagged her tail lazily. After Theodore and Raven left, the group went into the yard. The enemy had suffered heavy losses in the fight. On their side, only Ghania got hurt. She got too excited while chasing and twisted her back. Overall, it was a big victory. They had planned to take the three little ones and head to the Grayhound Sect's base to catch the escaped Lisa. But when Natalie saw Jacob sulking in the corner of the yard, she remembered a more important question she needed to ask. She couldn't put off chasing Lisa, and she really wanted to find out the truth about her mother's death. So she decided to bring Jacob along and question him on the way to the Grayhound Sect. That meant it wasn't a good idea to bring a big group. Natalie thought for a moment and then said to Olivia and the others, "Go back and get some rest. You've worked hard these past two days. Once we finish this, dinner's on me." Everyone had been busy with Cassian's engagement, and then the trouble with the three little ones and the Grayhound Sect came right after. Everyone was tense and really needed a proper break. Harold had heard what Jacob said earlier and knew Natalie had personal matters to handle. He nodded and said without complaint, "Okay. We'll head back first. You and Cassian, be careful."
