Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Lisa asked, "What about her daughter?" One of the men thought for a moment and said, "Her daughter isn't ugly, and she's young. They sent her to a labor camp." "What?" Lillian froze for a beat. What camp? Labor camp? Then she understood. She screamed, "You took my daughter to make her a prostitute?" Before this, when a man had looked Rosalie over and led her away, Lillian had hoped the man had picked her. She thought Rosalie might at least have someone to rely on. That seemed better than being a human-sheep with Lillian and Derek. She never expected Rosalie to have been taken to be used like that. Rosalie's weak body would not survive it, she thought. Derek's reaction was worse. He roared in anger and thrashed around. He tried to tear everyone apart. But he was weak and tied up. After just two screams, the men beat him hard. Lisa snorted. What is the surprise? The Grayhound Sect used to have over five hundred members. Most were men. They had needs. The labor camps were set up so the men's urges would be dealt with. It also kept people loyal. When her followers were happy, it was easier to lead them. It also helped bring in new fighters.Lisa pointed to the men who had caught people. "Go find them and bring them here." "Yes!" After they left, Philbert leaned in and said quietly, "Lisa, it's hard in those camps. That girl might already be dead." Lisa only nodded. Even if Rosalie was dead, she had ways to make Lillian talk. But Rosalie was brought back soon. Lillian stared for a few seconds. Then she recognized her daughter. She rushed over and hugged Rosalie and sobbed. Rosalie looked pale. Her eyes were dark and swollen. Her lips were swollen like sausages. Her hair was a mess and stuck to her head. Her neck and arms, and every bit of skin that showed, had marks. There were whip scars, teeth marks, and bruises from being squeezed. Worst of all, her pants had dried blood that looked awful. Strange bumps had grown on her skin, too. Derek had been near death on the floor. But when he saw how Lillian had been hurt, he forced himself up. He trembled. He called Rosalie and cried as he went to her. Rosalie reacted strongly. She cried and pushed away. "Get away! Waaa—get away! Don't come near me!" "Okay, Dad won't come near," Derek said, trying to soothe her. Dad? Lisa blinked. This girl isn't Natalie's stepsister, right? How could she call Derek "Dad"? Lisa thought, This family is chaotic. Rosalie kept screaming, "You're not my dad! You're a bad man! Go away! Don't touch me!" Lisa was tired of the noise. She frowned. Philbert stepped forward and punched Rosalie. She fell silent after the blow. Lillian screamed and lunged at her. Derek's eyes were red with fury. After that, Rosalie didn't respond to anything. Lillian and Derek could say or do anything. She just lay there, staring at the ceiling, motionless. Lillian first called her name in panic. Then she looked at the Grayhound men around and shouted, "How could you treat my daughter like this? Don't you have children? How can you be so cruel?" Lisa lost patience. She said coldly, "You should be glad she's still alive." She added, voice hard, "If she keeps living now, that depends on you." Lillian went quiet fast. She breathed hard for a long time. Then she wiped her tears. Lisa leaned back and said, "Tell me. What exactly can you use against Natalie and Mr. Holland?" Rosalie, who had been staring blankly, reacted when she heard her name. She shot up and cried, "Natalie? Where's Natalie?" She looked around but didn't see Natalie. She panicked and yelled, "Bring her here! Mom, make Natalie come and take my place!" "Why does she get the good things, and I get all the bad things?" she wailed. "Bring her here now!"Lillian hurried to calm her. "Okay, okay. Don't panic. I'll bring her. Calm down."
