Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Nicholas hesitated for a moment, then added, "Your duck breast is gone too ... and the caviar." Even before the apocalypse, those were luxuries. Now, after everything fell apart, they were priceless. If the Grayhound Sect hadn't been so powerful, how could anyone have amassed such treasures? Nicholas had been in charge of the warehouse for years, drooling over the delicacies but never daring to touch a single bite. And now, a few beasts had devoured it all ... Before he could say more, Lucky bared her teeth in a vicious snarl. Nicholas almost collapsed, his legs trembling in terror. Lucky snorted coldly. Mind your own damn business. Lisa felt a flicker of regret over her personal stash, but looking at the pile of valuables Lucky had sniffed out and delivered to her desk, she decided it wasn't really a loss. This dog has a sharp nose. With her around, what treasure could possibly hide? The things that were eaten could just be written off as an investment. She teased, "You've got good taste, huh? Always going for the best stuff. But from now on, no more snacking whenever you want, got it?" Lucky gave a perfunctory nod. Honestly, there wasn't much left in that warehouse anyway. Nothing that could compete with Natalie's treasures. Anything halfway decent had already ended up in her, Cash's, or Baron's bellies. Now, the only things that caught her eye were their guns. Steal the guns, then tear them apart. Lisa, feeling energized, ordered her men, "Set up a room next to mine and Joe's. Make it ready for them to stay in."Then she turned to Lucky. "This will do for now. Once we take Greenhaven Mountain, I'll move you into the most luxurious villa there—Villa 1!" Even stoic Baron couldn't hide a twitch of amusement. This lady is nuts! Lucky rolled her eyes. I already live there! Who needs you to move me? At the same time, she realized something—their target wasn't Villa 5. Olivia and Harold were dirt-poor, and their place had nothing worth taking. No, it was Lisa's own luxury villa they were after. Hmph. Not a chance. Lucky plastered a sweet smile on her face, then turned and let out a loud fart straight at Lisa. She'd eaten all sorts of things today, and this one was especially potent, enough to nearly knock Lisa and Joe out. Even the men in the distance gagged and covered their noses. Only Baron and Cash, used to her antics, stayed composed. Lisa laughed instead of getting angry. "You little rascal!" She waved a few men over to escort the three little ones to their new quarters. Joe, watching them strut away, grew anxious and tried to follow. Lisa gently held him back. "There'll be plenty of time later. You can't be alone with them right now. Once they're trained, then you can play all you want." Joe nodded obediently. "Okay." Just then, someone came rushing in, out of breath. "Report! There's a fight in the human-sheep camp!"Lisa frowned. "The human-sheep camp? Why bother me with nonsense like that?" The man glanced nervously at her. "You said we had to report everything to you today, no matter what." Lisa sighed. She'd wanted extra vigilance to prevent Godfrey from planting saboteurs, but she hadn't meant that every meaningless little scuffle had to be reported. Who cared if the human-sheep camp got into a fight? Who would pay attention if chickens squabbled or pigs pushed each other around? Well, the human-sheep camp was part of their food storage. But this wasn't ordinary storage. As the name suggests, it was people treated like sheep, kept alive to be slaughtered when needed. Every few days, they were fed scraps. Whenever the gang wanted fresh meat, one of them was dragged out and butchered. Most of these people were prisoners captured during battles—survivors with private bases or small-time gang leaders. Some were just weaklings picked up along the road. They had no ability to fight back, so they got tossed in as backup food too. Fresh meat, straight from the source. The camp was usually silent except for crying and begging. Once, they'd tried to escape together but failed. What had never happened before was them fighting each other. They're just a bunch of people waiting to die, and they still have the energy to fight? Lisa thought for a moment. Since I have to wait for Mark's report anyway, I might as well watch. It might also let the men vent their frustration. They've been humiliated by those three animals, and now they can take it out on the human-sheep.Her voice turned sharp. "Bring the troublemakers up here!" "Yes, ma'am!" Soon, several filthy, ragged figures with matted hair and dirt-caked skin were dragged into the room.
