Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
After all, there had already been several weird apocalypse events, so a suddenly appearing phantom woman didn't seem totally impossible. Still, Toby frowned and cut them off. "Shut up! What woman? Stop with the spooky stories!" Right now, the priority wasn't arguing about ghosts—it was taking Villa 1. Without Godfrey's protection, if they came back empty-handed, the only outcome would be Lisa killing them, so they had to secure this place and set up camp here. "But I really saw—" Before he could finish, Toby raised his gun and pulled the trigger. Bang! The man dropped immediately. Toby snarled, "I'll say it again. There's no mysterious woman! Anyone else who tries to mess with our heads will end up just like him!" The gun quieted those who'd been talking; they shut up at once. Toby scanned the group and barked, "The Boss is gone; you all know what happens if we return and fail. That should be motivation enough!" At those words, everyone tensed. They all understood their gang's reality. Return defeated, and Lisa would find a way to have them killed. Toby cleared his throat and went on, "Don't panic. We'll sort out the Boss's death later. The urgent task now is to take this Hillside Villa District so we have somewhere to stay!" "Take the Hillside Villa District!" "Take the Hillside Villa District!" Others echoed the shout and rallied.Toby gave the order. "Follow me. Charge!" He led the way through the blown gate and fired at the patio doors. The men behind him with guns also fired, planning to rush in as soon as the glass gave. After a few rounds, the glass didn't shatter—only shallow marks remained. "What the hell?!" "Is this glass made of steel? Why is it so tough?" Toby's face darkened as he realized, "This is bulletproof glass!" Someone stepped forward and frowned. "Bulletproof glass still shouldn't take that many rounds. This isn't ordinary ballistic glass." A man sighed, "I told you—these top-tier rich folks have cutting-edge gear. It won't be easy." Toby glared at him and signaled for silence. He peered through the patio window to see what was inside, but only his own reflection stared back. Of course. The glass is not only ballistic; it's one-way observation glass. One of the men asked helplessly, "Boss, what do we do now?" Toby drew a breath and barked, "Load every explosive onto the front gate!" He wasn't going to believe a stupid door would beat them. "Yes!" The crew backed to a safe distance. The van driver pulled the vehicle full of explosives up against the villa gate, jumped out, and ran.The men tasked with ignition crept forward and lit the fuses. Everyone stood well back, eyes fixed on the van, weapons raised, waiting for the blast. Five, four, three, two, one. With a thunderous boom, the ground shook. The team watched the rising cloud of smoke, ready to storm as soon as it cleared. But when the smoke cleared, the entrance didn't reveal a blown-open grand foyer—rather, the gate stood intact, closed and whole. "Damn it! What the hell?!" "How is the gate untouched? With that amount of explosives, the wall should've been blown clean off!" Toby hurried up to inspect. "Looks like a bank vault door to me." "Jesus. These wealthy bastards are insane. They brought vault doors home?" Toby's face went sour. "If the doors and windows won't give, then smash the walls!" Someone cautioned, "Boss, that wall took the blast, and it's still standing. I don't know ... " Before he could finish, Toby kicked him with fury. "Shut up and do it, or get out of my sight!" The man stammered apologies. "No, Boss, I didn't mean—" A cool, muffled female voice suddenly cut across from above. "You really want to come in?" The attackers had been focused on the ground-floor defenses and hadn't noticed the third-floor windows opening. When they looked up, their jaws dropped.A woman in a respirator leaned out of the window, and she was holding ... "Holy shit! An assault rifle!" "Quick—" Before anyone could finish, she pulled the trigger.
