Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 462 Trapped With No Way Out

Theodore asked, "How is it not the same? They're all my projects!" Dave's brow tightened hard. "And what project exactly are you doing this time?" Theodore smirked. "Even if I explained, you wouldn't get it. Just wait for the results." Dave slammed his palm on the table. "You ungrateful brat!" He was about to say more when the security chief's voice came from outside the study. "Mr. Mervyn, we've got a situation." Dave shot his son a glare, then forced himself to calm down as he sank back into his chair. Only then did he say, "Come in." The security chief walked in, one hand gripping a bundle of explosives, the other pressing a gun to the intruder's head. Dave's eyes went straight to the explosives, his posture shifting as he sat up. Theodore, on the other hand, lit up with excitement. "Danny, what's going on?" Danny Guzman first bowed respectfully toward Dave. "Mr. Dave." Then he gave Theodore a nod. "Mr. Theodore." Only after that did he explain, "I caught this guy sneaking around outside the gates. He was just about to toss this bomb into the courtyard when I stopped him." The man lifted his head, looking nervously between Dave's stern, intimidating face and Theodore's half-squinting, almost amused stare. He blurted out, "It's not what you think! I wasn't trying to hurt you, I swear!" Dave said nothing, only glanced at his son. Catching his father's look, Theodore strolled forward at an unhurried pace and took the explosives from Danny. He turned them in his hand, inspecting the bundle, and asked lazily, "Not trying to hurt us? Then what exactly were you planning to do with a bomb in your hand?" The man's face was drawn tight. "I was forced! If I didn't bring this bomb, they were going to kill me!" He hurried to add, "I grabbed the smallest charge on purpose, just enough to throw over your wall to make it look like I followed orders. It wouldn't have hurt anyone." Theodore handed the explosives to Dave and muttered, "Homemade. It's that powerful, honestly." Then he leaned back into his chair and asked, "You say you were forced. Forced by who?" The man swallowed hard. "Our boss." Theodore's expression soured with impatience. "If you're going to talk, then spit it out. How am I supposed to know who your boss is?" He drew a gun from his waistband and aimed it square at the man's forehead. "Quit playing games." With two barrels aimed at him, sweat poured down the intruder's face, his words stuttering. "M-my name's Kennard Carline. I'm from the Grayhound Sect. Our boss is Godfrey. He's got his eyes on Greenhaven Mountain—he wants to claim the whole Hillside Villa District for himself. He already led a big force to Villa 1, planning to take it down first before coming here. Before the main force arrives, he ordered me to weaken your defenses with explosives." Pushed at gunpoint, Kennard rambled on, his confession pouring out. Still, he mixed truth with lies—careful not to betray Lisa, while adding enough fuel to stir up trouble for Godfrey. Dave frowned. "That explosion earlier—was that you too?" Kennard shook his head fast. "No, that was our other guys. They blew up Villa 5." Theodore raised an eyebrow. "Why Villa 5?""Our boss had it scouted. Said Villa 5's defenses were decent too." Dave and Theodore exchanged a sharp look. So someone already infiltrated the Hillside Villa District. Walter just collected his paycheck not long ago—what the hell has he been doing on duty? Dave's gaze bore down on Kennard. His voice dropped low. "How many of you came?" Kennard answered honestly, "Two hundred." Dave shot to his feet in a flash. "Two hundred?!" Even Theodore, usually so careless and cocky, grew serious. "And all 200 are at Villa 1 right now?" Kennard thought for a moment. "They should be arriving soon. The main force moves slower than me." Seeing both men's faces darken, Kennard feared they'd kill him in anger, so he rushed to flatter them. "I've long admired the reputation of the Mervyns! I've always respected you two. I swear I never meant to hurt you!" He glanced at Danny behind him for backup. "This man can testify! I wasn't even planning to enter your courtyard. I just had orders to toss the bomb from outside the gate. It wouldn't have done any real damage!" But neither Dave nor Theodore cared about Kennard, who posed little threat. Their thoughts were already on the 200 men marching to storm the Hillside Villa District. No matter how skilled their bodyguards were, they were still too few. There was no way they could hold back 200 attackers at once. And with only handguns in their arsenal, if the enemy swarmed them in numbers, even their weapons could be overpowered. Dave's eyes were bloodshot as he stared at Kennard. "What kind of weapons are they carrying?"Kennard knew full well that Lisa wanted Godfrey trapped with no way out. So he was more than willing to feed the Mervyns extra intel that would drag Godfrey deeper into danger.
