Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Natalie rolled her eyes. Thanks for your thoughtfulness! She quickly took a couple of bites of bread. Then the two of them put on their gas masks and headed straight toward Olivia's new place. Left behind at home, the three little ones watched their humans leave. Once they were sure the coast was clear, they dashed upstairs and curiously ran into the main bedroom. Lucky, with her sharp nose, led the way, sniffing around. Weird. Way too weird. Why does this whole room smell like strawberries? She followed the scent to the trash can and dragged out a torn pink wrapper. That's where the smell was coming from. Lucky pawed at it. Tiny letters were printed across the wrapper. "Ultra-thin, snug fit, protect your passion." She could not read, so her face was full of confusion. What was this? Strawberry jelly? Or maybe a lollipop? Lucky wrinkled her little dog face. Her human had never shared snacks like this with her, yet she had secretly been sneaking them around with Hottie. Now she felt like they were deliberately leaving her out! Cash and Baron also came over, curiosity piqued. The three little ones just sat there, staring at the empty wrapper in silence. After a while, Lucky picked up the pink packet in her mouth and trotted downstairs with it.Meanwhile, Natalie and Cassian were walking slowly down the main road. The fog was thick, visibility less than ten meters. Driving was impossible in weather like this—one wrong step on the gas, and you would crash into someone's yard. Walking was safer. As long as they stayed within ten meters of each other, they would not lose their way. The two held hands. However, the closer they got to Olivia's home, the clearer the cries and screams around them became. "Die! I'll kill every last one of you!" "Ah! You killed my dad, all of you will pay!" "Please, stop hitting me! I'm so scared, please stop ... " Cassian frowned. "This fog really is strange." These wealthy folks had always been the type to argue with words or play clever tricks, like at the last homeowners' meeting. Now they were actually fighting like savages. Natalie sighed. "Your villa really is secluded. With all this chaos, I can't believe we didn't hear a sound back at home." Cassian said, "Or maybe we were just too distracted." He spoke like a boy who had just gotten a taste of something new, bringing up last night again like it was his favorite toy. Natalie pinched him hard, exasperated, before they kept walking. When they arrived at the villa Olivia had picked out with her family, they saw someone sneakily clinging to the gate, craning her neck to peek inside. Natalie frowned, and a gun appeared in her hand. She aimed at the stranger's back. "What are you doing?"The person jumped, then spun around. Seeing it was Natalie, she quickly raised her hands. "It's me, Wilona Rowse! We've met! I mean no harm, don't shoot!" Natalie looked closer. Sure enough, it was the popular young actress. Even without makeup, though she looked a bit worn out, she was still strikingly beautiful. Maybe the fog was affecting her. Even while she stammered her explanation, tears streamed down her face, her whole body trembling. Natalie asked coldly, "Then why are you hanging around someone else's gate?" Wilona hurriedly explained, "I just moved next door. I'm your friend's neighbor now. I-I saw their supplies stacked in the yard, so I wanted to remind them. You know ... with so many people losing their homes after the earthquake, supplies are in short demand. I was just being kind ... " Natalie did not believe a word. She knew Wilona's reputation was not good. She had even seen her break up Frederick's marriage with her own eyes—proof that the rumors were not baseless. With no response, Wilona finally broke down and sobbed louder. "Please, I really don't mean harm, don't kill me!" She sobbed, begging pitifully. Natalie kept her aim steady. "Go back to your own home." Relieved, Wilona nodded quickly. "Okay, okay, I'll leave right now." But before leaving, she cast a pitiful glance at Cassian—fragile and delicate, like something out of a tragic painting. Cassian frowned. "What are you looking at?" Wilona froze. Once she left, Natalie glanced at him with a half-smile, raising a brow."Are you such an oblivious straight guy?" Cassian corrected her, "A loyal husband who knows his boundaries." Natalie could not help laughing. "Not bad, husband." Cassian took her hand. "What's my reward?" Natalie replied, "You don't get rewarded for simply doing what you're supposed to." Cassian smirked. "Then I'll collect it tonight." "Collect what?" "The reward." Even though the gas masks covered his expression, Natalie just knew he was grinning mischievously. She rolled her eyes. "Drop those thoughts of yours."
