Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 395 The Fortress

Natalie stepped through the automatic gate and followed Cassian inside the villa. After a full tour, she couldn't hold back her surprise. "This place ... it's basically a fortress for the apocalypse!" Even Natalie, who had seen a lot, was impressed by Cassian's villa. It wasn't just the luxury furniture and high-end design. The structure itself was flawless. Every window in the house was made of the strongest shatterproof glass from Drakoria. It was tough, private, and clever—you could see outside from inside, but no one could see in. The front door was made from the same material as a bank vault. It wasn't as heavy as a vault door, but it was still far thicker than the armored door Natalie once bought for her own home. She couldn't help asking, "The doors and windows are great, but what if someone tried breaking through the walls?" Cassian explained, "The walls are built with a special alloy, made from aerospace materials. Even a bomb couldn't break them." "The roof and basement, too?" "Yeah." Natalie's eyes widened. "So this house is basically an iron tank that nothing can crack?" Cassian smiled. "That's one way to put it." The house was also lined with the latest security system. Cameras covered every angle outside, giving full 360-degree surveillance with no blind spots. The original 115-inch TV in the living room now served as a giant monitor screen. At a glance, you could see every movement around the house.Cassian said, "There's also a full control room on the second basement level. I only converted this TV into a monitor after the apocalypse began, to make things easier. If you want to watch regular TV, you can use the theater room." Natalie nodded, then suddenly asked, "You don't have cameras inside the house, do you?" Cassian smirked. "Why? Worried I'd spy on you?" She shot him a look. "Worried you'd get a nosebleed." His eyes sparkled with amusement. "You're quite confident, aren't you?" He pulled her closer. "Too bad there aren't any cameras inside. Want me to install some now?" "No need!" she said quickly. Beyond the reinforced shell, the house had a top-notch air filtration system. Even if someone released poison gas inside, the filters would clear it all out. The house's safety was flawless. But beyond that, the villa was also comfortable and beautiful to live in. The interior design was lavish without being tacky. The silver-gray tones gave the place a sleek, elegant look. Every room was laid out with purpose and balance. Natalie's favorite parts were the fully equipped gym and the bright, spacious training room. The storage space was huge, so she never had to worry about running out of room while sparring. And when she trained Lucky, the dog had plenty of space to run free. Natalie couldn't hold back her question. "You've had this amazing safehouse all along, but you actually squeezed into that tiny old apartment with me?" Cassian smirked. "Otherwise, how do you think I found myself a wife?" Natalie shot him a glare. "Tricky, shameless man."Cassian stood tall, unashamed. "If I had any shame, I wouldn't have found myself a wife." The two laughed as they walked down to the second basement level, into the power room. Inside, a massive diesel generator roared to life, shaking the walls with its steady thrum. Natalie glanced around. "This soundproofing is impressive." From the living area upstairs, you couldn't hear a thing. She studied the generator, working hard under the bright lights. If this house had one flaw, it was how much power it consumed. Before the world fell apart, the electric bill alone would have cost a fortune. And now? It was a fuel-guzzling beast, drinking more than a Knight XV. Her stored fuel could handle cars and normal generators, but keeping this villa running was another story. She turned to Cassian, wanting to confirm a suspicion. "A while back, didn't someone strip every gas station clean? Was that you?" Cassian nodded without hesitation. "The Mervyns did it. So did government people. But I struck first, and I took the most." Natalie's eyes widened. "And the government didn't come after you?" Cassian chuckled. "After the apocalypse, factions turned on each other. The government wasn't one united force anymore. That's how I got the upper hand." Natalie thought it over. He was right. "In the last life," she said slowly, "I heard rumors about a big shot who cut a deal with the government over fuel and ended up holding a ton of resources. That was you, wasn't it?" Cassian considered it. "Not really resources. Just some special treatment. If one day you decide to live at a government base, we'll get more privileges than the average person."Natalie nodded. She understood; he traded fuel with countless convenience. Still talking, they stepped into the room next door. Next to the power room was the fuel storage. The entire chamber was built from special materials, safe from leaks or fire. Cassian explained, "This stockpile will last us a long time. Aside from what I've handed over to the government, I've stashed plenty more across different warehouses."
