Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Lillian shook with anger. "This has got to be Natalie's doing!" Rosalie sobbed. "Exactly! If it were just some thief, they would've only grabbed the food. Who wrecks an entire house? She must be jealous that Dad loves me the most, so she pulled this stunt!" Jacob wasn't sure. "But Natalie is just a girl. How could she have managed something like this?" Rosalie snapped, "Mr. Holland must've helped her! You all saw how he acted yesterday! He treats Natalie like she's some precious gem!" Lillian cut in, "Cassian probably brought in workers to do this. As for the silence? Maybe they used knockout gas and made us sleep through it." The idea made her shiver. If Natalie could destroy their home without a sound, then their lives weren't safe either. Her fists clenched as her hands shook. Maisie, on the other hand, was totally confused. She slapped her thighs, bawling over the missing food. "What are you talking about? Natalie did this? And who's Mr. Holland?" Last night, Jacob and the others came back upset, didn't say a word, and went straight to bed. So, Maisie never learned what went down at the homeowners' meeting. But none of that mattered to her now. All that mattered to her was fixing this mess. Maisie stomped and wailed, "You'd better figure this out and get the food back! And fix the house! How are we supposed to live like this?!" She'd only had two years of comfort. There was absolutely no way she was going back to the old days! This stripped-down villa was worse than her place in the countryside. The more she thought about it, the more furious she got. Her eyes rolled back, and she fainted. Jacob lunged forward. "Mom! What's wrong?!" Then, he yelled at Lillian and Rosalie, "Don't just stand there! Come help!" Lillian was already shaking with nerves and fear. She could hardly think straight, much less worry about Maisie. Still, someone had to handle things. She steadied Maisie and told Jacob, "She's just upset. She'll come around. What matters now is fixing the house. I'll stay here. You go talk to Natalie." Jacob hesitated, then nodded. "Fine, I'll go." Lillian added nervously, "Pay attention to her attitude. We need to know if she plans to keep coming at us." He strode off. "Got it." When he reached Villa 14, he paced outside, too shaken to ring the bell. The last time he saw Natalie, he'd thrown her out. Now she was stronger than ever, and he had no idea how to face her. What if she mocked him? What was he supposed to do? Beg? No way. Be sarcastic? He didn't dare. He hesitated for a long time. Just as he finally reached for the bell, the door opened. Natalie walked out slowly, calm as ever. Jacob froze. "How'd you know I was here?" She glanced casually at a hidden security camera, saying nothing. She didn't come to the gate, leaving him standing there awkwardly.Jacob studied her closely. Her face was the same, but everything else about her had changed. The fragile flower was gone and changed into a mysterious, dangerous blossom. He wanted to say something. But then, Cassian stepped out behind her. Jacob's face turned dark. "You're not even married, and you're already living together? That's outrageous!" Natalie snorted, like she'd just heard the dumbest joke. "And who exactly are you to say that to me?" He froze, completely shut down by her words. After fumbling for a bit, he finally burst out, "I gave you life! Don't I get to lecture you once in a while?" Natalie's gaze turned icy. Sure, he'd given her life, but she'd already repaid that in her previous life. Her second chance had nothing to do with him. She was furious and saw no reason to be polite. "My life came from Mom. You only put in three lousy minutes. Don't even think about claiming credit." Remembering how he trashed her mother yesterday, she added with a sneer, "Though honestly, maybe you didn't even last three minutes." That one cut deep. No man could stand it, least of all from his daughter. Jacob was shaking with rage, ready to explode.
