Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
They thought that since they were the elders, no matter how fierce Natalie was, she would never dare kill her own father. Maisie even shouted, "Jacob, after you teach her a lesson, make her hand over that gun. Then we'll finally be safe." Lillian almost rolled her eyes. Safe? In your dreams! Natalie isn't crazy. Why would she ever give up her gun? But Jacob actually nodded. "Mom, you're right." Lillian was speechless. She held them back, then finally spoke with a sigh. "Maisie, Honey, don't lose your heads just yet." Compared to Maisie and Jacob, Lillian was much more level–headed. Nobody in this world knew Scarlett and Natalie better than she did. Taking Scarlett's place had been Lillian's lifelong goal. For over 20 years, she had studied everything about Scarlett and Natalie. Natalie was a lot like her mother. She looked kind and generous on the surface, but in truth, she had a strong will of her own. If you tried to move her with feelings, sometimes it worked. But if you tried to pull rank on her, it always backfired. And Natalie never forgot a grudge. When she and Rosalie kicked her out of the hillside villa, that look Natalie gave them still made Lillian's heart race whenever she remembered it. She had planned to wait until Jacob's company stabilized, then quietly hire someone to deal with Natalie once and for all—just in case she tried to get revenge. But then disaster struck out of nowhere. The world went crazy before she could make her move.Still, she had figured the city was flooded, chaos was everywhere, and a girl like Natalie wouldn't last long. She never imagined Natalie would survive the mess, fight her way back, and even move home again. And somehow, she had gotten her hands on a gun. Natalie was clearly not someone to underestimate. Right now, Jacob and Maisie were acting like little kids. Times had changed, yet they still thought they could win by playing the "we're the parents" card. If they wanted to throw their lives away, fine—but Lillian wasn't about to die with them. Jacob frowned when she grabbed his arm. "Why are you stopping me?" Maisie snapped too. "Yeah, let him go! Don't get in the way!" Lillian could hardly believe it. One hand was holding stubborn Maisie, the other was pulling back reckless Jacob, and next to them was her weepy, useless daughter, Rosalie. She wanted to scream. "Maisie, Honey, calm down. If Natalie dared treat Rosalie this way, then she clearly doesn't respect us. If you go charging in now, she won't hold back against you either." Maisie's eyes widened. "If she dares, that's going too far!" Lillian sighed. "What doesn't she dare? She's the one with the gun, not us." Seeing Maisie still unmoved, Lillian turned to Jacob. "Honey, you know Natalie. Hasn't she always been the type to lack respect?" Jacob froze. It was true. Natalie wasn't meek. She was sharp–tongued and never let anything slide. After he had kicked her out, she was probably still holding a grudge. Jacob cared most about saving face. The thought of Natalie refusing to give him any respect now made him stop in his tracks. Seeing him hesitate, Lillian pressed harder. "She just wiped out the Boltons yesterday. She's not in her right mind. If we rush her now, what happens if she loses it and pulls the trigger?" She paused, then glanced at Maisie. "Especially since she still hates you for ... that thing you did before." Her words carried a warning. Maisie stiffened. Then she, too, sat back down on the couch, suddenly cautious. "So what are we supposed to do now? Just leave her alone? Live like strangers from now on?" But deep down, she still wanted that gun. Lillian pulled Jacob back down with her. She was about to speak again when Rosalie crawled over, crying. "I told her we could mind our own business, but she refused! She said she'd come 'visit' us instead. Her face was terrifying when she said it!" Jacob slammed his hand on the armrest. "She's threatening me now?" Lillian turned to Rosalie. "Did she say when she was coming?" Rosalie shook her head. "She said it's not certain." Lillian fell silent.Of course. Natalie wasn't easy to deal with. This was her way of keeping them awake at night, never knowing when she'd show up. Maisie frowned. "What does that mean? Is she planning to storm in here with her gun, the same way she did at the Bolton Residence?" Finally, Maisie was starting to understand. "Exactly," Lillian said flatly. Jacob and Maisie fell silent. The whole house sank into a tense, heavy silence.
