Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 278 Irresponsible Cash!

Olivia tried to refuse a few times, but Natalie wouldn't take no for an answer. In the end, Olivia accepted the gift with a smile. "When I get the chance, I'll bring my girl over so you can meet her." "Your girl?" Natalie froze for a moment. Then it clicked—Olivia genuinely adored the girl. She had taken that child in and treated the girl like her daughter. Natalie laughed. "Perfect timing. I was planning to invite you and the folks from the 15th floor for dinner tomorrow. Bring her along." Olivia nodded. She glanced at Cassian and teased, "Sounds like a good reason to celebrate." This time, Natalie didn't blush. She just smiled with confidence. For some reason, she really wanted to introduce Cassian to her friends. Maybe because they'd been cheering her on all this time. Cassian gave her a look, his mood unusually bright. He even chimed in. "You're welcome here anytime." The way he acted so much like the man of the house made Olivia grin even wider. Then her eyes landed on Cash, who was stretching his neck to eavesdrop. Something popped into her head. "Oh right, Nat. Snowy just hatched a chick." Natalie blinked in surprise. "What? Don't you usually take her eggs away as food or put them in the fridge? How'd she hatch one?" Olivia explained, "One day I couldn't find the egg anywhere and didn't think much of it. I thought Snowy just didn't lay. Turns out, she hid it and sat on it until it finally hatched.""Hid it?" Natalie gasped. "Is Snowy a genius or something?" Then her expression shifted. "Wait a second. You don't even have a rooster. How could the egg be ... ?" She stopped mid-sentence; something clicked in her mind. Slowly, she turned toward Cash. Cash could understand human language. And right then, he was tiptoeing toward the bedroom. Natalie raised a brow. "Cash. Get over here." He pretended not to hear and picked up his pace. Lucky saw him ignoring Natalie's order and pounced at him. She was thrilled to finally catch him red-handed. Terrified, Cash darted a few steps, then launched himself straight into Cassian's arms. He tilted his little head up with pleading eyes. Come on, man. We're both men, you get me, right? Cassian was speechless. Natalie yanked Cash right out of his arms. "So this is what you've been up to? Sneaking around with Snowy and knocking her up right under my nose?" Cash tucked his head in and rolled his big eyes nervously. Olivia watched the whole scene, amused and touched at the same time. "Want me to bring the chick over for you?" she asked with a laugh. Natalie waved it off. "It's Snowy's baby; you keep it."Then she leaned down and intimidated Cash, "Or maybe I'll just raise it and make chicken soup for the kid." Cash gave no reaction. Natalie flicked him on the head. "Useless little rooster with zero sense of responsibility." They chatted a little longer and set the time for tomorrow's dinner. After that, Olivia headed out. At the door, she gave Natalie a sly wink. "Good night. Sweet dreams." Natalie rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah. Bye." She shut the door and was about to head back to the living room when Cassian suddenly wrapped his arms around her waist from behind. Natalie, who had just started to relax, tensed up again. "Cassian ... " It was like he knew what she wanted to say. Holding her close, he whispered, "Don't worry. Until you're ready, I'd never hurt you." Then he pulled her tighter. "Just a hug." Natalie let herself relax and leaned against him. Warmth spread through her chest. He really respected her. Happy in that moment, she turned around, rose on her toes, and gave him a quick peck on the lips. Cassian froze, stunned by her boldness. He was just about to kiss her back when Natalie pulled away. She laughed softly and said, "Goodnight." After that, she darted into her room. She even remembered to lock the door behind her, as she always did. Cassian stood there, both amused and helpless. He glanced at the pets nearby, who had been watching the whole thing. "Lucky, Natalie just went to bed," he reminded the dog. Lucky finally realized what was going on. She perked up, then dashed straight to Natalie's door and scratched at it. When the door didn't budge, she grew frantic. "Arf! Arf! Arf-arf-arf!" Natalie, I'm still out here! The door cracked open. A hand shot out, scooped Lucky inside, and slammed shut again. Cassian chuckled to himself and finally went to his room. Inside her bedroom, Natalie hugged Lucky and let out a long sigh of relief. That was close—things had almost gone too far. She slipped with Lucky into the storage space, took a relaxing bath, then curled up in bed. Staring at the ceiling, she drifted into thought. Everything that happened today felt like a dream. She actually had a boyfriend now. Her first time in a relationship—after two lives. Cassian's face appeared in her mind, sharp and gorgeous. She couldn't help but smile. And with that, she fell into a sweet, peaceful sleep.
