Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Olivia's heart softened as the little girl kept calling her "Mom." After hesitating a moment, she carried the child home with her. Kids didn't eat much anyway. She could handle one more mouth at the table. She had no family left in this world. This little girl felt like a smaller version of herself. And the way she kept calling her "Mom" reminded Olivia of her own baby who had never been born. The girl nestled on Olivia's shoulder with a small smile as they stepped inside. Unit 1402. Meanwhile, Natalie and Cassian were locked in a sparring match. Over the past few days, she had gotten used to having him around the house. She didn't resist him as much, mainly because Cassian wasn't just skilled at cooking; he was also an excellent fighter. With him around, Natalie got to enjoy amazing meals and had a partner for training. Before this, she could only spar with Lucky. But Lucky wasn't human, and many moves didn't work on her. Now with Cassian, everything felt sharper and more flexible. In just a few days, Natalie's skills had improved fast. After several rounds, Natalie finally stopped, panting. "No more! I'm worn out!" Cassian was way stronger than she thought. They had been going at it for nearly three hours. She was exhausted; he still looked full of energy. Cassian lowered his hands and smiled. "So, how do you feel today?" Natalie thought about it. "Not as much progress as yesterday." Then she asked, "Do you always train like this?" Cassian admitted. "Yeah. Every day." Natalie nodded. No wonder. She had only started working out seriously after getting a second chance at life. Back in college, she'd only learned a few simple moves. She had never trained her stamina. That's why, even though their skills were about the same now, her endurance was nowhere near Cassian's. She eyed his calm, steady look and couldn't help but mutter, "Don't you ever get tired?" Cassian's lips curved. "A man can't admit weakness." Natalie rolled her eyes, too lazy to argue with him. This petty guy still hadn't forgotten how she once teased him, saying he couldn't perform in bed. Now he used every chance to tease her about it. Her face darkened. "Friends should have boundaries. Stop saying dirty jokes like that!" Cassian chuckled softly. "Yes, ma'am. Whatever you say, my dear friend." Natalie pressed her lips together. Somehow, even when he said something nice, it always sounded a little too suggestive.Ever since he moved in, he had completely changed. No longer cold and distant, he strutted around like a peacock, showing off his charm and constantly trying to tempt her. He was plotting to use every chance of living nearby to make her his. After endless back-and-forth moments, Natalie finally sat him down for a serious talk. She made it clear she would never date him. At most, she could only accept being friends. Cassian agreed right away. And that was how the world's most shameless friendship began. Not only did he refuse to keep any proper distance, but he also used the excuse of being her friend to push into every corner of her life. The moment Natalie saw him smiling charmingly, her nerves tightened. She quickly stepped back. "I've trained enough. I'm going to bed. If you watch TV, keep the volume down." She rushed into her bedroom like she was running away. Cassian looked at the slammed door in front of him. He chuckled and went back to his own room. Natalie locked her bedroom door carefully, then slipped into her storage space. She walked into the first-floor bathroom of the villa, dropped a rose-scented bath bomb into the tub, and sank into the warm water. The exhaustion from her training melted away at once. She soaked for half an hour, drifting toward sleep, then finally dried off. Natalie put on her nightgown and stepped back out of the storage space. Drowsy, she lay down on her bed, closed her eyes, and began to drift off.Wait? Why did my bed feel harder than usual? Natalie's eyes snapped open. A familiar face filled her vision. Cassian?! Her sleepiness vanished. She sat frozen, staring around. Damn it! This isn't my room! She was jolted. Wide awake from her drowsiness. Natalie had been so tired earlier that when she left the storage space, she miscalculated and blinked in the wrong room. She took a deep breath, then carefully sat up, trying to sneak out. She had just sat up when it hit her—why get up at all? She could use blink, slip straight back into the storage space, and vanish. She must have been scared silly. Natalie was about to disappear into the storage space when a strong hand suddenly caught her wrist. She turned and saw Cassian's eyes wide open. His blue, dreamy eyes were staring right at her. Her breath caught in her throat. Panic surged, and she tried to break free. But in the next second, as soon as her body lifted weightlessly, Cassian pulled her down, and she fell back on the bed. Before she could react, in an instant, Cassian rolled over, pinning her wrists and pressing her down beneath him.
