Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Magnus saw his impatience and misunderstood even more. His voice grew heavier. "What I want is the woman herself. Her name or her past doesn't matter. If you have nothing else, go get some rest." It was a harsh dismissal, a clear order to leave. Kelvin's words stuck in his throat. He couldn't say anything more. He simply answered, "Yes," then stood up and walked out. In his heart, he thought Magnus must have fallen under this woman's spell. He wouldn't even allow Kelvin to speak another word. That had never happened before. As he walked out, a vague sense of unease rose inside him. On the couch, Magnus watched his brother's back and frowned deeply. In the days that followed, Natalie almost lived at Cassian's place. She ate with him, trained with him, and made fast progress. One day, she excitedly challenged him again. This time, Natalie finally won. She raised her brows and grinned. "When your arm's fully healed, let's go again!" Cassian laughed, happy to see her so confident. "Deal!" Lucky was thrilled, too. Life had been a dream lately. Her human stayed home every day, and she also got to see that hottie all the time. Cassian not only guided Natalie but also helped train Lucky. The dog also made great progress. Unlike Natalie's tough training methods, Cassian's face alone was enough to motivate her. The only thing Lucky hated was that annoying woman downstairs, who always tried to hang around them. She was so annoying! After practice one evening, Natalie wiped sweat from her face and started talking about the plan. "The birthday party's the night after tomorrow. Wouldn't it be easier if we slipped something into the kitchen food?" Cassian shook his head. "Too risky. Security's tight in the kitchen. On the day, Kelvin himself will be there, making dishes for Magnus. We'd never get the chance." Natalie arched a brow. "You even know Kelvin's going to be in the kitchen cooking. Where'd you hear that?" Cassian pressed his lips together, looking a little sheepish. "The kitchen ladies like to talk." Natalie almost burst out laughing. It looked like every time he went to pick up meals, the old ladies had roped him into endless chatter. Cassian shot her a sideways glance. Natalie instantly pulled back her smile and said seriously, "Looks like we'll have to mess with the well water." Cassian nodded in agreement. However, after considering the situation, Natalie frowned. "The party is at night, but the water is drawn in the morning. If someone drinks it during the day and collapses early, won't they figure out something's wrong before the party even starts?" Cassian didn't look worried. "I have a drug. It can handle high heat, and once mixed with alcohol, it kicks in about ten minutes later. The person will lose all strength and pass out."Natalie's eyes lit up. "So even if they drink the water early, it won't affect them until they have wine that night?" Cassian nodded. "Even if they don't drink water, once they eat meat cooked with it, they'll still go down." Natalie thought about it, then smiled. "This could work. At Magnus's birthday, no one skips a drink. They'll all raise a glass for his toast." With the plan set, Natalie asked, "Where did you even get a drug like that?" Cassian pressed his lips together. "From a madman." Natalie raised a brow. "A madman?" Cassian nodded. "The one I told you about before—Theodore from Tyro Group." Natalie remembered. "The guy who loves running animal experiments?" Cassian nodded again. Natalie muttered to herself. Yeah, definitely a lunatic. Then she asked, "You're sure this drug works?" Cassian gave a firm nod. Natalie relaxed. Cassian might be rough around the edges, but he was reliable. "Then tomorrow night we move." Talking about the plan reminded her of Amber. For days now, Amber had switched targets. She no longer clung to Cassian—she latched onto Natalie instead, following her around with every excuse she could think of. If Natalie wanted to slip out tomorrow night, she'd need to shake her off. After Natalie brought the issue up, Cassian came up with a blunt solution. "Knock her out?"Natalie shook her head. "When she wakes up, she'll run straight to Magnus. That'll blow everything." Cassian asked calmly, "Kill her?" Natalie still shook her head. "She's the lead dancer for the party. If she vanishes, the entire event will descend into chaos. That'll draw too much attention." Cassian was about to suggest something else when a knock came at the door. "Bonnie, are you in there?" Natalie gave him a look that said, See? Told you. She walked to the door and opened it. To her surprise, Amber didn't try to push her way inside with a fake smile this time. Instead, she asked her to come downstairs. "Bonnie, someone's here to see you." Natalie froze. Who would be looking for me? She went downstairs and stopped in her tracks when she saw a familiar face. "Bonnie, we meet again!" Natalie blinked in surprise. "Rocky?"
